Originally proposed in the mid-90s, design patterns for software development played a key role in objectoriented programming not only in increasing software quality, but also by giving a better understanding of the power and limitations of this paradigm. Since then, several authors have endorsed a similar task for other programming paradigms, in the hope of achieving similar benefits. In this paper we discuss design patterns for hybrid semantic web systems combining several description logic knowledge bases via a logic program. We introduce eight design patterns, grouped in three categories: three elementary patterns, which are the basic building blocks;four derived patterns, built from these;and a more complex pattern, the study of which can shed some insight in future syntactic developments of the underlying framework. these patterns are extensively applied in a natural way in a large-scale example that illustrates how their usage greatly simplifies some programming tasks, at the level of both development and extension. We work in a generalization of dl-programs that supports several (possibly different) description logics, but the results presented are easily adaptable to other existing frameworks such as multi-context systems. To study and compare the simulation methods on the different scoring functions to analyze the consistency of the Docking score between the aptamers and protein. thrombin is well characterized and has been studied with the thrombin binding aptamer (TBA) and mutated TBA sequences in a previous report, which finds three representative aptamers have best, medium, and worst binding interactions with thrombin. Discovery Studio 3.5 is a useful modeling and simulation software. the ZDOCK in this package incorporates a simple and novel scoring function: Pairwise Shape Complementarity. By using ZDOCK, we also can evaluate the differences in the binding ability between the interactions of the thrombin and aptamers. Basically, our results are consistent with the previous report. From this study, we make sure that the ZDOCK can provide reliable results and able be used as an alternative method in performing in silico selection of aptamer. © 2013 Springer Science+Business Media Dordrecht.

the conditions of synthesis of interval observers for linear systems with unknown time-varying parameters were analyzed. the possible cases for compliance with the properties of the cooperative system were considered. the analysis of the conditions under which, for a given combination of properties of the system, it's possible to construct an interval observer, was held. Such observer allows to get estimates of the state variables of the system which is guaranteed to contain the actual value of the state at a given time.

the determination of areas exposed to be interested by new eruptive events in volcanic regions is crucial for diminishing consequences in terms of human causalities and damages of material properties. Nevertheless, urbanized areas, cultural heritage sites or even important infrastructures, such as power plants, hospitals and schools can be protected by diverting the flow towards lower interest regions. this paper describes the application of Parallel Genetic Algorithms for optimizing earth barriers construction by morphological evolution, to divert a case study lava flow that is simulated by the numerical Cellular Automata model Sciara-fv2 at Mt Etna (Sicily, Italy). In particular, the application regards the optimization of the position, orientation and extension of an earth barrier built to protect Rifugio Sapienza, a touristic facility located near the summit of the volcano. the study has produced extremely positive results and represents, to our knowledge, the first application of morphological evolution for lava flow mitigation. Among different alternatives generated by the Genetic Algorithm, an interesting scenario consists of an earthen barrier solution (with a length of 225 m, average height of 25 m, base width of 10 m and volume of 56180 m3) which completely deviates the flow avoiding that the lava reaches the inhabited area.

this paper presents usage of analog feed-forward control to improve the transient response of DC-DC buck converters with pulse-width-modulation (PWM). the analog feed-forward controller is simple and does not require complicated calculations. Duty cycle is modulated directly based on the charge balance of the output capacitor. Compared with conventional feedback control, this simple feed-forward controller reduces control delay and provides a satisfactory transient response. We apply this technique to a Single-Inductor-Dual-Output (SIDO) buck converter as well as a Single-Inductor-Single-Output (SISO) buck converter, and show that its cross-regulation is improved. We have validated the proposed method with SIMetrix simulations.. © (2015) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

In this paper, we describe the use of ontologies in the context of a system for recruiting patients for clinical trials, which is currently being tested at the Charit´e - Universiẗatsmedizin Berlin, one of the largest university hospitals in Europe. the main purpose of the CRDW(Clinical Research DataWarehouse) is to support patient recruitment for clinical trials based on routine data from the hospital's clinical information system (CIS). In contrast to most other systems for similar purposes, the CRDWalso makes use of information that is present in clinical documents like admission reports, radiological findings, and discharge letters. the linguistic analysis recognizes negated and coordinated phrases. It is supported by clinical domain ontologies that enable the identification of main terms and their properties, as well as semantic search with synonyms, hypernyms, and syntactic variants. the focus of this paper is the description of our ontology model, which we tailored to the particular requirements of our application. In the article, we will also provide an evaluation of the system based on experimental data obtained from the daily routine work of the study assistants. Copyright ©2013 SCITEPRESS.

this paper describes applications of a Delta-Sigma (δσ) modulator to control a DC-DC converter. We propose to use a continuous-time (CT) feed-forward (FF) δσ controller in a DC-DC converter and show that its transient response is faster than discrete-time (DT) and/or feedback-type (FB) δσ controllers. We have also performed experiments of a DC-DC converter with a first-order continuous-time feedback δσ controller and show its results. © (2015) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

In this paper, we propose a new fuzzy-based trustworthiness system for P2P Communications in JXTA-Overlay. this system decides the Peer Reliability (PR) considering three parameters: Actual Behaviour Criterion (ABC), Reputation (R) and Peer Disconnections (PD). We evaluate the proposed system by computer simulations. the simulation results have shown that when there are too many peer disconnections, although the reputation and the ABC are improved, the peer reliability remains very low. For few peer disconnections, peer reliability is increased with the increasing of ABC, R and PD and the system have a good performance. © 2013 Springer Science+Business Media Dordrecht.

In WMNs mesh routers provide network connectivity services to mesh client nodes. the good performance and operability of WMNs largely depends on placement of mesh routers nodes in the geographical deployment area to achieve network connectivity, stability and user coverage. In this paper, we evaluate the performance of WMN-GA system for node placement problem in WMNs. For evaluation, we consider Normal, Exponential and Weibull Distribution of mesh clients and different grid size. the simulation results show that the grid size effects in the performance of WMN-GA. the system performs better for Normal distribution. © 2013 Springer Science+Business Media Dordrecht.
