this paper proposes an adaptive Gravitational Search Algorithm (aGSA) focused on tuning of Takagi- Sugeno PI-fuzzy controllers (T-S PI-FCs). the algorithm adapts two depreciation laws of the gravitational constant to the iteration index, a parameter in the weighted sum of all forces exerted from the other agents to the iteration index, and the reset at each stage of agents' worst fitnesses and positions to their best values. Two fuzzy logic blocks carry out the adaptation of the ratios of exploration runs and explanation runs using the ratio between the minimum and maximum Popov sums as an input variable. A tuning method for T-S PI-FCs dedicated to a class of nonlinear servo systems with an integral component and is offered, and T-S PI-FCs with reduced process gain sensitivity are tuned. A case study and digital simulation results illustrate the optimal tuning of a T-S PI-FC for the position control of a laboratory servo system. Copyright © 2012 SciTePress.

Equivalent Temperature is generally considered an accurate predictor for thermal comfort in car cabins. However, direct measurement of this parameter is impractical in fielded applications. the paper presents an empirical, multiple linear regression based approach for estimating body segment equivalent temperatures for car cabin occupants from different sensors within the car. Body part equivalent temperature at eight segments and cabin sensor data (air temperature, surface temperature, mean radiant temperature, humidity and solar load) was gathered in a variety of environmental and cabin conditions. 38 experimental hours of trials in a controlled environment and 26 experimental hours of realistic driving trials were used for training and evaluating the estimator's performance. the estimation errors were on average between 0.5 °C and 1.9 °C for different body parts for trials within a controlled environment, while for trials in realistic driving scenarios they ranged between 1 °C and 2 °C. this demonstrates that passenger body part equivalent temperature can be estimated using a multiple linear regression from environmental sensors and leads the way to comfort driven Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning control.

In a wireless sensor network, transmissions consume a large portion of a node's energy budget. Data reduction is generally acknowledged as an effective means to reduce the number of network transmissions, thereby increasing the overall network lifetime. this paper builds on the Spanish Inquisition Protocol, to further reduce transmissions in a single-hop wireless sensor system aimed at a gas turbine engine exhaust gas temperature (EGT) monitoring application. A new method for selective filtering of sensed data based on state identification has been devised for accurate state predictions. Low transmission rates are achieved even when significant temperature step changes occur. A simulator was implemented to generate flight temperature profiles similar to those encountered in real-life, which enabled tuning and evaluation of the algorithm. the results, summarized over 280 simulated flights of variable duration (from approximately 58 minutes to 14 hours) show an average reduction in the number of transmissions by 95%, 99.8% and 91% in the take-off, cruise and landing phases respectively, compared to transmissions encountered by a sense-and-send system sampling at the same rate. the algorithm generates an average error of 0:11 0:04 °C over a 927 °C range. Bilateral teleoperation system are prone to instability coming out from the time-delay introduced by the indeterministic communication channel. this problem has been subject of intensive research under the assumption of non-equal master-slave teleoperators, however, what are the implications of dynamically similar teleoperation system (DSTS), is there simpler stability relationship and trade offs among several involved system and feedback parameters? When we consider a linear DSTS system, there arises the question whether there is analytically any advantage, as it was observed heuristically in several experiments (Cho and Park, 2002). In this paper, the stability analysis of such system is reported under an impedance control scheme (Garcia-Valdovinos, 2006) when the delay is considered constant but unknown, by applying the Llewellyn's and Raisbeck's criteria, it is found and explicit and straightforward relationships between the dynamic and kinematic scaling and the stability of the system. this result explicitly suggests clearly guidelines among key factors, such as time delay, desired velocities and feedback gains in terms of the scaling parameters, arises a clear advantage when dealing with dynamically similar systems. this explains why the transparency of the teleoperation system is improved by augmenting/reducing the dynamic/kinematic scaling factor, for given desired frequency, time delay and feedback gains. Simulations and preliminary experimental results illustrate different cases subject to a number of conditions, which can be very useful to design a physical teleoperation system. A preliminary mechatronics design is presented.

this paper presents details regarding the design of two state feedback control (SFC) solutions for the position control of a mechatronics application represented by the Model 220 Industrial Plant Emulator. Since SFC is not effective in terms of zero steady-state control error, the SFC structure of both solutions is inserted in a control loop that contains a PID controller with or without low-pass filter. this leads to the two SFC solutions proposed in this paper and dedicated to mechatronics applications with variable moment of inertia. the PID controllers are tuned by the Modulus Optimum method to ensure high control system performance expressed as increased phase margins and improved tracking performance. the performance of the proposed SFC solutions is illustrated by case studies that deal with experimentally identified parameters in two situations, rigid body dynamics and flexible drive dynamics. Simulation and experimental results obtained for the three significant values of the moment of inertia of the load disk are given.

As part of this research, software for multimodal biometric authentication using neural networks is developed to improve the efficiency of information system user authorization. the architectures of artificial neural networks, which are involved in the processes of recognizing a person by facial image and voice, are given. the internationally used databases (DataSet) of images and audio recordings for training of neural networks are considered. the process of training neural networks, the formed database of biometric personal data and the results obtained by the authors are described. © 2023 IEEE.

Many people with severe disabilities find it difficult or even impossible to use traditional powered wheelchairs independently by manually controlling these electrical devices. Intelligent wheelchairs are a very good solution to assist severely handicapped people who are unable to operate classical electrical wheelchair by themselves in their daily activities. this paper describes a development platform for intelligent wheelchairs called IntellWheels. the intelligent system developed may be added to commercial powered wheelchairs with minimal modifications in a very straightforward manner. the paper describes the concept and design of the platform, including the hardware and software, multimodal input interface and the intelligent wheelchair prototype developed to validate the approach. Preliminary results concerning automatic movement of the IntellWheels prototype are also described showing the autonomous movement capabilities of the prototype. © 2009 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

Occupant comfort oriented Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) control rises to the challenge of delivering comfort and reducing the energy budget. Equivalent temperature represents a more accurate predictor for thermal comfort than air temperature in the car cabin environment, as it integrates radiant heat and airflow. Several machine learning methods were investigated with the purpose of estimating cabin occupant equivalent temperature from sensors throughout the cabin, namely Multiple Linear Regression, MultiLayer Perceptron, Multivariate Adaptive Regression Splines, Radial Basis Function Network, REPTree, K-Nearest Neighbour and Random Forest. Experimental equivalent temperature and cabin data at 25 points was gathered in a variety of environmental conditions. A total of 30 experimental hours were used for training and evaluating the estimators' performance. Most machine learning tehniques provided a Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) between 1.51 degrees C and 1.85 degrees C, while the Radial Basis Function Network performed the worst, with an average RMSE of 3.37 degrees C. the Multiple Linear Regression had an average RMSE of 1.60 degrees C over the eight body part equivalent temperatures and also had the fastest processing time, enabling a straightforward real-time implementation in a car's engine control unit.

this chapter presents a hybrid controller which can be used with tracking systems especially with laser tracker systems. the controller consists of an analog PI controller and a microcontroller. Special features like e.g. an absolute distance measurement technique or a search algorithm in case of beam loss is implemented. With the help of the distance measurement the controller gain is adjusted automatically by digital potentiometers. Due to the usage of standard elements it is cost effective and easy to use. the controller is designed for working with an interferometer in a laser tracker system but can also act as an autonomous system because of the integrated absolute distance measurement technique. A distance of about eight meters between the tracker unit and the reflector is easily achieved in experiment without static tracking errors. Furthermore, the lateral offset of the laser beam does not exceed a quarter of the beam diameter and thus guarantees stable interferometer functionality. © 2009 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

Aiming at the traditional prediction methods of related parameters that affect water quality, they usually only consider the temporal characteristics of the related parameters of water quality and ignore the problem that water quality changes are multivariate related, A prediction method of spatiotemporal correlation water quality parameters based on automatic encoder (AE) dimensionality reduction and long and short time memory (LSTM) neural network is proposed. Firstly, considering that water quality parameter changes have obvious time characteristics, a time series prediction model of water quality parameters is established based on LSTM. Secondly, considering that the water quality changes have multiple correlations, the upstream water quality will also affect the downstream water quality. If all the water quality parameters of the upstream station are added to the prediction model, redundant features will reduce the accuracy of parameter prediction. therefore, the automatic encoder is used to reduce the dimensionality of the relevant parameters. Finally, the data set of Lang fang Water Quality Automatic Monitoring Station is applied to monitor the effectiveness of the method. By predicting the concentration of total phosphorus (TP) and total nitrogen (TN), the method is found to have better prediction accuracy and robustness. © 2020 IEEE.
