To put into practice what has been learned is considered as one of the most important education objectives. In the traditional class, it is difficult for learners to engage in practices since teachers usually convey knowledge and experience by speaking or simple demonstrations, like using slides and videos. this brings obstacles for learners to apply what they have learned to solve real problems. Educational game with the novel input and out technologies is one of the solutions for learners to engage in the learning activities. It can not only effectively encourage learners to learn positively and vividly, promote learning interests and motivation, and enhance the engagement, but also improve their imagination, learning performance and other learning behaviors. this paper first discusses the learning theories related to educational game. then a literature review is conducted by collecting data on the topics of assessment of educational game with new interaction. Next, we propose a model to guide the design and the evaluation of educational game due to the missing studies. this model underlies an educational game to foster the garbage classification learning with virtual 3D output and natural gesture input using Leap Motion, which is a tracking device of hands and objects. To analyze users' learning behaviors and evaluate their performance and experience, we conduct an evaluation with 22 college learners. Results showed that the use of the natural interaction not only made the learning interesting and fostered the engagement, but also improved the absorption of knowledge in practices. Finally, a discussion of the challenges and future directions is presented.

the paper aims to explore the application of project-based learning（PBL） in English and American literature based on its characteristics of realism, practicability, comprehensiveness, activeness, exploration and standardization, the complexity of knowledge in English and American literature courses, as well as the improvement in students’ aesthetic and experience abilities on novels, poems and dramas. Various projects shall be chosen in accordance with different teaching objectives and requirements. As we all know that there are much knowledge of English and American literature to remember, such as, the background of every period, schools of literature, main representatives, representative works and writing styles. Teachers can design pop quizzes to help students remember. Performances of classic dialogues, discussions and reports are chosen in novel appreciation. Students need to read poems aloud and recite some of them in learning poems, while they can learn dramas by performances. Meanwhile, it suggests that writing papers are adopted instead of final exams and students’ achievements are decided by the usual and final performance. the paper shows that students shall have more enthusiasm on their learning if different projects with various forms, clear goals and interests are designed in accordance with diversified teaching objectives.

In recent years, increased research attention has focused on understanding challenges to effective classroom learning, and many studies have explored the effect of stress on learning effectiveness. Appropriate stress can inspire learners to achieve their true learning potential, but this raises the issue of how to best assess learners’ tolerance for stress. Teachers can use stress quantification methods to measure the personal stress loading for individual students. By adjusting teaching methods to fit varying levels of tolerance to learning stress, teachers can not only enhance learning effectiveness, but also reduce the possibility of physical and psychological damage to learners. this study uses the experimental design research method to evaluate learning effectiveness under different treatment variables: gender (male and female), logical reasoning ability (high and low) and stress level (high and low). the results found that stress level can affect learning effectiveness (p © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2018.

the elderly often fear technology products in Taiwan, because the complexity of technology and the lack of information create barriers for the elderly to use technology. the concurrent trends of an aging population and digital product advances means that new technology products can enrich elderly lives, if learning barriers are overcome. this study are utilized the quasi- experimental design, A multimedia -assisted teaching system (MAIS) is an intervention program. Seventy-eight older adults (over 65, years old) will participate in this study;38 older adults belong to the comparison group, and the other 40 will be in the experimental group. Subjects’ post-test score will be used for evaluating the learning outcome after implementing the intervention program. the study seeks to clarify how to design multimedia instruction to maximize learners’ recall and understanding of the presented material. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2018.

With the rapid development of information technology, cloud computing, large data, mobile interconnection and other technologies, the number of users is increasing, and the amount of data generated by users is increasing exponentially. How to store large scale and massive data, the traditional distributed storage technology will face challenges. Distributed storage technology can use multiple servers to store data and share storage load. However, in the cloud computing environment, it looks pale. In order to improve the storage efficiency of massive data, data blocking algorithm is studied to shorten the response time of data backup. We present the results from a 90-min session in which 196 fourth grade students from 13 classes from 11 schools performed a series of engaging, hands-on activities. these four activities were designed to help students understand how rockets fly. During the activities, students use skateboards, toy cars, springs, balls, and water rockets to model the physics behind a rocket launch and predict the proportion of water that will lead to maximum elevation. A subset of the classes took a post-test involving 22 basic physics questions, presented in the form of a 60-min online synchronous interschool tournament. the other subset of classes also answered the same questions online in sixty minutes, though in this case they were not presented as a tournament. the students who participated in the tournament improved significantly more than the rest. Moreover, students with weak academic performance who participated in the tournament improved the most, reducing the gap with the academically stronger students. Lessons involving hands-on experiments using skateboards, toy cars and water rockets are already highly engaging. However, this experience shows that using technology to connect schools synchronously through an online tournament is a powerful mechanism for boosting student engagement and learning in core science concepts. Furthermore, we compared learning outcomes with a previous year face-to-face interschool tournament. With the online synchronous interschool tournament, students learned twice as much as they did with the face-to-face interschool tournament.

Augmented Reality (AR) technology has changed abstract science to be presented to the students with concrete image by interoperable way which has provided with new possibilities to reduce students’ cognitive load. the nature and composition of materials is an important concept to study Chemistry. However, to the middle school students, it is a great challenge for them to understand both micro and macroscopic world of the whole Chemistry. this study has designed a periodical table based on AR to develop a course of Chemistry changes with interoperation. the study has implemented an experiment targeting on learners to study and research students’ learning effects by applying AR technology and how it affects them in learning Chemistry. the result indicates that AR technology can be integrated with teacher’s teaching, which has made the students’ learning attitudes become positive. By way of interoperation to learn, students’ grades have been obviously more improved than those before the experiment. through the process of the study, the researcher realizes the importance that students study knowledge in science with interactive technology and it has significant help in promoting students’ learning achievements as well as their learning motivation. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2018.

In present day general education classrooms, teachers often must turn to traditional teaching methods to help students acquire knowledge and understand content. However, the use of conventional teaching models rooted in the past may result in limited one-way knowledge transmission in the real world, rendering the overall process less effective. the continual use of older teaching techniques in our modern age of learning results in a potential loss of meaningful interactions with students during the knowledge transfer phase. To cope with this problem, we developed a GIS-based learning system designed around the curriculum of a MacKay Cultural Heritage course to deliver relevant information to students in classroom learning environments. the proposed system consists of two main components: the "Multimedia Database of MacKay Cultural Heritage" and the "learning Platform of MacKay Culture". Both components of this course were used to demonstrate the significance of the added educational value imparted by Dr. MacKay’s contributions and his impact on the state of education, medicine and religion in Taiwan. Our system also allowed for the incorporation of geographic information technologies into a web-style map to improve the delivery of information to students as a complement to conventional teaching practices. In addition, the proposed system served as a medium for providing personalized learning support for each student. thus, we believe that our GIS-based learning system contained the necessary features to effortlessly facilitate students’ knowledge acquisition and promote student motivation to achieve the learning aims of the MacKay Cultural Heritage course. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2018.

Collaborative teaching today, is one of the best practices followed globally to foster active learning. As a variety of teaching styles emerge to address more student learning preferences, collaboration across disciplines and across borders, using mobile technologies, allows a cultural and academic exchange of ideas, improving teaching and learning pedagogy. the authors at the Department of Biology, Dillard University (DU) in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA and the Department of Chemical engineering, BMS College of engineering in Bangalore (BMSCE), India collaborated in Fall 2015 and 2016 to develop a teaching module where DU Human Physiology students and BMSCE Chemical engineering students participated. this paper chronicles our experience in the interdisciplinary study across borders, focusing on critical and creative thinking;writing and communication using smart devices and collaboration and shared leadership.
