Adders are essential components of modern digital circuits, and their primary design goal is to achieve high speed. However, power consumption and chip area are also important considerations in modern circuit design. Optimizing digital adder performance plays a crucial role in enhancing the speed of binary operations within complex circuits. Various architectures address the carry propagation bottleneck, each with its own strengths and weaknesses. Choosing the most appropriate architecture depends on the specific application requirements, ensuring optimal performance within the available resource constraints. this paper provides a comprehensive analysis of various adder topologies and their performance characteristics. By carefully considering the trade-offs between delay, power consumption, and area, engineers can choose the optimal architecture for their specific application requirements, leading to significant improvements in digital system performance and efficiency. the analyzed adder topologies include Ripple Carry Adder (RCA), Carry Lookahead Adder (CLA), Carry Skip Adder (CSK), Carry Select Adder (CSLA), Carry Increment Adder (CIA), Brent kung adder (BKA), Kong stone adder. the analysis is conducted using HDL on the Xilinx ISE 14.7 platform.

Scientific computing centers or private (in-house) cloud data centers do not rely on the standard pay-as-you-go business model which is common in commercial clouds to allocate resources. Instead, the system is typically shared by a set of selected users, and the administrator’s job is to ensure that resources are shared fairly given the existing policies of that organization. One common approach, especially in batch systems, is to deploy a fairshare-based prioritization in the scheduler, where a prioritization mechanism balances resource consumption so that individual users get the right shares of resources over time. In this paper, we present a tool developed to simulate the fairshare setting in a batch system. Using a set of experiments, we demonstrate the utility of this tool in tuning fairshare settings in a standard HPC/HTC scheduler and present the impact of often-overlooked additional options for modifying the basic fairshare settings. All the findings in this paper are based on our real-world experience of running and optimizing a distributed national computing infrastructure in the Czech Republic. © the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Septoplasty and turbinectomy are among the most frequent but also most debated interventions in the field of rhinology. A previously developed tool enhances surgery planning by physical aspects of respiration, i.e., for the first time a reinforcement learning (RL) algorithm is combined with large-scale computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations to plan anti-obstructive surgery. In the current study, an improvement of the tool’s predictive capabilities is investigated for the aforementioned types of surgeries by considering two approaches: (i) training of parallel environments is executed on multiple ranks and the agents of each environment share their experience in a pre-defined interval and (ii) for some of the state-reward combinations the CFD solver is replaced by a Gaussian process regression (GPR) model for an improved computational efficiency. It is found that employing a parallel RL algorithm improves the reliability of the surgery planning tool in finding the global optimum. However, parallel training leads to a larger number of state-reward combinations that need to be computed by the CFD solver. this overhead is compensated by replacing some of the computations with the GPR algorithm, i.e., around 6% of the computations can be saved without significantly degrading the predictions’ accuracy. Nevertheless, increasing the number of state-reward combinations predicted by the GPR algorithm only works to a certain extent, since this also leads to larger errors. © the Author(s) 2025.

SVMs had been effectively applied to various signal processing tasks in Telecommunications, along with goal detection and category in cognitive radio networks, channel estimation, exploiting spatial variety for multipath wireless conversation channels, interference cancellation, and era of feature vectors for sign type. In goal detection and category in Wi-Fi conversation networks, SVMs may be used to come across and classify specific types of wireless signals with an excessive diploma of accuracy. the input characteristic vectors are comprised of the signal’s spectrum and temporal features, and they are used for the education of the SVM classifier. In channel estimation, SVMs may be used to estimate the unknown channel parameters in Wi-Fi conversation channels with a low but suitable suggest-squared-blunders charge. that is viable via exploiting the diversity of more than one received signal replicas and the usage of the predicted channel parameters to improve signal reception. © the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Farrow filters allow to design universal resamplers for fractional delay correction and sampling rate conversion. the use of cubic Lagrange interpolation in the Farrow filter does not allow to provide high performance resamplers due to the narrow processing band (less than 0.4F s ) and the high side lobes level of the frequency response caused by the non-smooth interpolator impulse response. the new Farrow filter structure based on the 3rd, 5th and 7th order Hermite splines and high order wide band differentiator filter is proposed in this paper. Proposed filters increases of the processing bandwidth up to 0.8F s by polynomial order increasing with additional restrictions on the derivative continuity in interpolation nodes. the proposed filters structures are optimized to minimize the multiplications for polynomial coefficients calculation. In the experimental part Farrow filter was applied to the 5G wideband signal interpolation. Farrow filter with fixed-point design can be used with such optimizations as data bit length reduction. Such techniques can reduce occupied crystal area and power consumption with controllable performance degradation.

the evolution of processor hardware increasingly supports fine grain parallelism through SIMD (Single Instruction, Multiple Data) vector instruction sets and hardware threading. For instance, the new ARM SVE instruction set allows for hardware implementation of up to 32 double precision SIMD vector sizes per hardware thread. In this work, we focus on vectorization of the triangular solves required in BiCGStab preconditioned with ILU(0) that is particularly numerically effective for IFPEN applications. In our context, expressing some parallelism can be achieved by changing the sparse structure of the matrices through unknown ordering;that can be recast in terms of graph ordering and coloring. We use a graph coloring method named ColorRCM to exhibit fine grain parallelism to feed the SIMD computing units while improving the convergence of the Krylov solver compared to classical greedy graph coloring method. We first evaluate the performance of SIMD-SpTRSV using the permutation provided by ColorRCM and achieve an acceleration between 1.7 and 6 in AVX2 compared to Intel MKL 21.4. then we examine the impact of ColorRCM ordering on ILU(0)-BiCGStab performance on 201 matrices, including those from the Suite Sparse matrix (the University of Florida Sparse Matrix Collection: https://***/10.1145/2049662.2049663) collection and from the IFPEN porous media flow simulations. the solver configuration uses the ColorRCM ordering and vectorized with AVX2 instructions showed the best convergence times in two thirds of the tests. © the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.
