A motion-based, correspondence-free technique for human gait recognition in monocular video is presented. We contend that the planar dynamics of a walking person are encoded in a 2D plot consisting of the pairwise image similarities of the sequence of images of the person, and that gait recognition can be achieved via standard pattern classification of these plots. We use background modelling to track the person for a number of frames and extract a sequence of segmented images of the person. the self-similarity plot is computed via correlation of each pair of images in this sequence, For recognition, the method applies Principal Component Analysis to reduce the dimensionality of the plots, then uses the k-nearest neighbor rule in this reduced space to classify an unknown person. this method is robust to tracking and segmentation errors, and to variation in clothing and background. It is also invariant to small changes in camera viewpoint and walking speed. the method is tested on outdoor sequences of 44 people with 4 sequences of each taken on two different days, and achieves a classification rate of 77%. It is also tested on indoor sequences of 7 people walking on a treadmill, taken from 8 different viewpoints and on 7 different days. A classification rate of 78% is obtained for near-fronto-parallel views, and 65% on average over all view.

An effective method is applied to detect and filter sensitive texts in image of multimedia message which could easily be transmitted through the mobile communication network without being monitored at recent stage. the detection and recognition of sensitive text are achieved by using SIFT feature, which is proper to the characteristics of the text in image of multimedia message and get an accurate result. the method has a good practical application value.

Several important advances have been recently made in the design of correlation filters. Among these, the minimum average correlation energy (MACE) filter is designed to yield sharp easily distinguished correlation peaks. To achieve this, the MACE filter minimizes the energy of the correlator output. We now introduce a windowing technique to control the distribution of the energy to further improve the correlation plane structure. the windows can be used to enhance the quality of the peak and reduce sidelobes by mobilizing the energy to unimportant regions of the correlation functions. this technique is particularly well suited for 1D signal processors such as acousto-optical correlators.

this paper presents and discusses the design and the development of a patternrecognition agent based on neural networks. this agent is part of an intelligent navigation system, providing it withthe necessary vision abilities so that it can be placed on a strange environment in order to explore and recognise its structures and specificities. Although similar, the properties of the recognised objects change through time and according to each specific environment. the flexibility required by such recognition process was implemented by several patternrecognition agents. Each agent is based on a neural network and can be trained on-line by a parallel training algorithm to allow an effective real time utilisation.

Fourier processing method is very popular in signal and image analysis. In this paper, a generalized Fourier transform (GFT) processor is introduced. It is generalized in that it contains the conventional Fourier transform (CFT) processor as a very limited special case by extending the diagonal filter matrix in CFT to a nondiagonal one. thus, obviously, the GFT processor should be more powerful than the CFT processor.
