this paper presents a novel humming feature extraction algorithm based on locality statistical analysis to tackle the problem of the instability of humming features in the query by humming（QBH） *** carrying out statistics to humming notes sequences in both longitudinal vocal range distribution and horizontal temporal variation distribution,we can obtain the locality statistical humming *** we concatenate several features using the idea of N-gram to improve feature *** the framework of QBH based on Locality Sensitive Hashing（LSH）,the proposed method has achieves 86%top-1 rate and 92%top-5 rate in the experiment,indicating the effectiveness of the method.

the paper describes the processing of magazine or newspaper images which need to be segmented in gray level. the first part proposes an original method to extract the physical layout of gray-level documents. the second part of the paper describes a rough logical structure by analyzing the typography, aiming to extract relevant information about the logical layout by combining information about colors, typography, and the physical structural layout for use by an automatic document indexation system. Character prototypes were automatically extracted by grouping characters which have the same binary patterns. We suggest using this character-grouping method to extract typographical information and recognize different font styles and sizes used in the document. © 1999 IEEE.

this paper proposes the use of lacunarity analysis of genomic sequences as a potential bio-sequence analysis method. In the present work the fractal property of DNA sequences is confirmed using the lacunarity analysis of their Chaos Game Representation matrices. In another study, the distribution of various n-mers in a genomic sequence is investigated based on the lacunarity analysis of one-dimensional representation of the indicator sequences of n-mers. One key finding from this study is that stop codon distribution in a genomic sequence, both in prokaryotes as well as eukaryotes, follows a random pattern. Another interesting result out of the present investigations is that lacunarity plot of the indicator sequence of repeating blocks in a tandem repeat sequence follows a similar pattern that of a one dimensional clustered data. this result demonstrates the use of lacunarity analysis in finding the presence of repeated sequences in a genomic sequence. All the results obtained clearly point to the power of lacunarity analysis of genomic sequences as a potential sequence analysis method. © 2011 IEEE.

Lately around the world the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) industry has taken interest in reducing the power consumption of ICT equipment. Communications service providers are especially interested in the so-called Green-IT technology, hoping to reduce the power consumed by the large numbers of telecommunications equipment they operate in order to provide their services. Although a lot of research has been conducted into reducing power consumption, the developed methodologies are not effective to adapt them to telecommunication equipments. In this dissertation I will propose a method to actually reduce power consumption by implementing a Call pattern Reorganization-Dynamic Power Management (CPR-DPM)-based call pattern policy, which follows subscriber connection patterns over time, in telecommunications equipment (specifically equipment located in the Central Office) of IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS)-based telecommunications networks. © 2009 IEEE.

Fractal theory has been used for computer graphics, image compression and different fields of pattern recognition. In this paper, a fractal based method for recognition of both on-line and off-line Farsi/Arabic handwritten digits is proposed. Our main goal is to verify whether fractal theory is able to capture discriminatory information from digits for pattern recognition task. Digit classification problem (on-line and off-line) deals with patterns which do not have complex structure. So, a general purpose fractal coder, introduced for image compression, is simplified to be utilized for this application. In order to do that, during the coding process, contrast and luminosity information of each point in the input pattern are ignored. therefore, this approach can deal with on-line data and binary images of handwritten Farsi digits. In fact, our system represents the shape of the input pattern by searching for a set, of geometrical relationship between parts of it. Some fractal-based features are directly extracted by the fractal coder. We show that the resulting features have invariant properties which can be used for object recognition.

In this paper, a practical postal numeral segmentation and recognition system for Chinese business letters is presented. Line information for the address blocks is gained from the envelope image by projection, then the sub-image of the postal numerals is segmented. the numerals are recognized by three independent classifiers, and their results are combined to form final results. An improved voting principle based on a priori knowledge of each classifier is utilized to combine multiple classifiers in order to achieve perfect performance for high recognition rate and low error rate. the recognition ability of each classifier, acting with the voting principle, is obtained by statistics for a large set of samples. Different thresholds gained by training are employed for different classes, which can yield better results. A parallel structure hardware is designed to implement a real-time image processing system. the performance of the system is shown to be satisfactory, sufficient for the requirements of practical use. © 1999 IEEE.
