Economic Model Predictive Control-Based Strategies for Cost-Effective Supervision of Community Microgrids Considering Battery Lifetime

Community-based microgrid (C-mu Grid) systems are gaining increasing importance nowadays because of the lack of mu Grid public investment and management policies. Technoeconomic analysis shows that C-mu Grid based on a cluster of microgenerators could be an effective solution when individual systems are not feasible. In this paper, the controlling capability of the central controller of the C-mu Grid is improved through an economic model predictive control (EMPC) approach operating at the pricing level that can fulfill the goal of the operational control of the cluster. With a central controller, it is capable of satisfying the demand at prosumer (active energy producer and simultaneous consumer) sides and, at the same time, optimizing the various mu Grid contrasting constraints. Emphasis here has been given to the operational constraints related to the battery lifetime, so that the maintenance and replacement costs would be reduced. A comparative analysis has been carried out between the performance of two systems, one based on an IF-thEN-ELSE heuristic supervision logic (S-LOGIC) and the other based on the proposed EMPC strategy. the analysis has been undertaken in a location in Dublin, Ireland, on the basis of available measured data. Simulation shows the effectiveness of implementing the EMPC approach to optimally manage the system.

Marine transportation quality is largely affected by the port service level;however, the contextual inquiry shows that the vessel schedule is now a stage of manual schedule. the situation when the vessels gather inbound or outbound may cause port congestion, especially in some adverse weather. Based on the analysis of vessel schedule in the port, this paper proposes a mathematic model for vessel schedule in one-way fairway. In order to calculate the model, we design a code based on the particle position and use discrete particle swarm optimization (DPSO) algorithm to get the schedule order. the simulated test verifies that the algorithm is completely convergent in 150 generation and the maximum waiting time is 117 minutes. the result demonstrates that it can reduce the waiting time when compared with the "First-Come, First-Served" rules. © Copyright owned by the author(s) under the terms of the Creative Commons.

We introduce Opcodes, a Python package which presents x86 and x86-64 instruction sets as a set of high-level objects. Opcodes provides information about instruction names, implicit and explicit operands, and instruction encoding. We use the Opcodes package to auto-generate instruction classes for PeachPy, an x86-64 assembler embedded in Python, and enable new functionality. the new PeachPy functionality lets low-level optimization experts write high-performance assembly kernels in Python, load them as callable Python functions, test the kernels using numpy and generate object files for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X entirely within Python. Additionally, the new PeachPy can generate and run assembly code inside Chromium-based browsers by leveraging Native Client technology. Beyond that, PeachPy gained ability to target Google Go toolchain, by generating either source listing for Go assembler, or object files that can be linked with Go toolchain. With backends for Windows, Linux, Mac OS X, Native Client, and Go, PeachPy is the most portable way to write high-performance kernels for x86-64 architecture. © 2015 ACM.

this paper addresses the real-time optirnal control of a Pendubot using nonlinear model predictive control (NMPC) combined with nonlinear moving horizon estimation (MHE). this fast, undo-actuated nonlinear mechatronic System apparently poses a challenging benefit mark problem that may benefit from a nonlinear optimization scheme. To overcome the related computational difficulties we make use of the ACADO code generation tool allowing to export, a highly efficient Gauss-Newton real-time iteration algorithm tailored to the nonlinear optimal control and estimation problem while respecting the imposed constraints. We show experimental results illustrating the overall Hosed-loop control performance, as well as the advantages of the nonlinear MHE--based NMPC scheme. generation of long-lived underdense channels using femtosecond filamentation in air

Using femtosecond laser pulses at 800 and 400 nm, we characterize the formation of underdense channels in air generated by laser filamentation at the millijoule energy level by means of transverse interferometry. We find that using tight focusing conditions, filamentation generates an acoustic shock wave and that the resulting low-density channel lasts for more than 90 ms. Comparison of these results with hydrodynamic simulations using an Eulerian code gives a good agreement and allows us to estimate the initial gas peak temperature at similar to 1000 K. the influence of experimental parameters such as the focusing conditions for the ultrashort laser pulse, its polarization or the wavelength is studied and linked to previous characterizations of filamentation-generated plasma columns.

Conventional short circuit calculation programs do not consider the actual behavior of inverter based distributed generation (DG). Several techniques to consider them have been suggested in literature and are briefly described in this paper. A tool is developed with the combination of these techniques. the approach uses standard short circuit calculation tools and accommodates inverter based DG with different fault responses. the approach is evaluated and compared against other techniques using a realistic test distribution network model.

More stringent grid codes have been set by transmission regulators requiring the wind farms to have proper fault ride through (FRT) capability and actively participate in maintaining network stability following severe disturbances. this may not be easily achieved as the intermittent behavior of wind turbines are highly affected by the environment factors as wind speed. this paper investigates reactive power allocation of full converter wind generators (FCWGs) with different wind speeds in order to comply with the *** Netz grid code. this is done by sensing the voltage drop at the point of common coupling (PCC) and using the level of wind speeds to define a power index for extended PQ support of FCWGs. A test system consisting of four FCWGs connected to power grid is simulated using MATLAB/Simulink by introducing types A and F faults for 500ms. Simulation results show that FCWGs with lower wind speeds are able to deliver more reactive power as compared to machine working under higher wind levels. Furthermore, the proposed technique can enhance the FRT capability of FCWGs without violating the DC-link voltage limits during the fault while also improving voltage profiles at PCC in compliance with the *** Netz Grid code.
