Many complex grid workflow processes often have only one global fixed-time constraint at the last activity. Since grid workflow execution normally lasts a long time, local control is very important to ensure the overall temporal correctness. With only one global fixed-time constraint, we cannot control grid workflow execution locally in terms of time. As a result, for any temporal violations, we must handle them globally withthe consideration of all activities. this would impact the overall cost-effectiveness of grid workflow execution. therefore, in this paper, we investigate how to assign local fixed-time constraints within the global one so that we can control grid workflow execution locally. Corresponding assigning and verification methods are developed With local fixed-time constraints, we can achieve better cost-effectiveness.

Bloom Filter is a simple space-efficient randomized data structure for representing a set in order to support membership queries, which uses an m-bit array to represent a data set. Dynamic bloom filter (DBF) can support concisely representation and approximate membership queries of dynamic set instead of static set. It has been proved that DBF not only possess the advantage of standard bloom filter, but also has better features when dealing with dynamic set. But DBF also has a disadvantage: the addition operation which mapped element x into bloom filter s will become no sense, if some of the first s-1 bloom filters have already responded that element x is in set A with some false positive probability. We point out this shortcoming and improve the addition operation with a new algorithm. We call this improved dynamic bloom filter i-DBF Finally, we prove that this i-DBF has better performance both in the storage space and in the false positive probability.

the integration of existing Grid tools into the Sakai VRE (Virtual Research Environment) will be discussed in this paper In particular we describe the integration of the business logic and JSR 168 compliant portlets through presentation-oriented Web Services, via WSRP (Web Services for Remote Portlets). A set of JSR 168 compliant portlets were developed for the UK NGS (National Grid Service) Portal and have been published using WSRP4J and consumed within Sakai successfully, which proves re-use of portlets as web components is a practical option. Withthe help of the WSRP consumer tool, the Sakai VRE has been successfully extended to support the JSR 168 specification.

Grid technologies enable large-scale sharing of resources within formal or informal consortia of individuals and/or virtual organizations. In these settings, the discovery, characterization, and monitoring of resources, services, and computations can be challenging due to the considerable diversity, large numbers, dynamic behavior, and geographical distribution of the entities in which a user might be interested. Hence, information services are a vital part of any Grid software infrastructure, providing fundamental mechanisms for discovery and monitoring, and thus for planning and adapting application behavior. this paper proposes a resource discovery system for grid computing with fault-tolerant capabilities starting from an SSI clustering operating system. the proposed system uses dynamic leader-determination and registration mechanisms to automatically recover from nodes and network failures. the system is centralized and uses dynamic (or soft-state) registration to detect and recover from failures. Provisional or backup leader determination provides tolerance and recovery in the event of the leader node failing. the system was tested against a control network modeled after existing grid computing resource discovery components, such as Globus Monitoring and Discovery System (MDS). In various failure scenarios, the proposed system showed better resilience and performance than the control system.

there are many common challenges to integrate and share information resources in enterprise or industrial environment, for example, heterogeneous structure of data sources, dynamical changing of source location and schema, sharing information across multiple autonomous administrative domains, fine-grained access control, and personalized requirements. Although it is possible to build a specialized solution to meet any scenario requirements, the solution, which is very suitable to the specialized scenario, may not be available to other scenarios. Based on Wet, Services technology, Vega Information Grid (VIG) abstracts commonality of requirements and addresses these issues by information virtualization. A suite of toolkit, which provides functionalities suitable for different scenarios, enables enterprise users to acquire and deploy information cost-effectively in a virtual grid platform, and to benefit greatly form the decrease of thefull life cycle time and the cost of management and changes of sharing information. this paper introduces its information virtualization model based relation schema, and decoupled architecture supporting personalized utilization pattern.

Grid computing is becoming a mainstream technology for large-scale distributed resource sharing and system integration. Workflow management is also emerging as one of the most important grid services. Web service composition has been one of the hottest research topics. Grid environment is very dynamic, and the services are shared among many users, it is impossible to optimize the workflow from the point of view of execution ahead of time. In fact, one may want to make decisions about the execution locations and the access to a particular data set as late as possible. In this paper, we propose a method of using BDI agents to implement service-oriented workflow mapping in our agent-based grid workflow management system (AGWMS), which helps grid users streamline, manage and monitor their routinely problem solving processes without having to know any details of the underlying complex structure and dynamic state of VOs. BDI agent technology helps the system meet challenges from the grid context. three types of workflow in AGWMS are denoted as abstract workflow (A if, concrete workflow (CW) and executable workflow (EW). We also propose AW2CW mapping algorithm and CW2EW mapping algorithm to implement service-oriented workflow mapping. Utilization of three workflow types further liberates model designers from sophisticated system details. It also increases the reusability of domain-specific models and improves the fault tolerance of the system.

Standardization of resource interfaces and behaviors is critical for realizing the Grid vision. Most works up to now mainly focus on technologies of accessing remote and heterogeneous resources. A two-layer framework for selecting and accessing resources on computational Grids is presented. It groups resources across organizations in an application oriented manner, and virtualizes each group of resources to be a set of stateful WEB services. these WEB services provide the capabilities for combining resources within, as well as across, organizations to prepare customized job execution environments as required. For every dynamically created execution environment, its lifecycle is allowed to span as long as desired to execute multiple jobs, and its interface and behaviors are standardized in an application oriented way. the framework has been implemented to virtualize resources in Harmonia, which is a software platform for coordinative computation and is utilized for developing the campus Grid of Peking University.
