Withthe general trend towards data-driven decision making (DDDM), organizations are looking for ways to use DDDM to improve their decisions. However, few studies have looked into the practitioners view of DDDM, in particular for agile organizations. In this paper we investigated the experiences of using DDDM, and how data can improve decision making. An emailed questionnaire was sent out to 124 industry practitioners in agilesoftware developing companies, of which 84 answered. the results show that few practitioners indicated a widespread use of DDDM in their current decision making practices. the practitioners were more positive to its future use for higher-level and more general decision making, fairly positive to its use for requirements elicitation and prioritization decisions, while being less positive to its future use at the team level. the practitioners do see a lot of potential for DDDM in an agile context;however, currently unfulfilled.

We give an overview of our recent initiative in designing a systematic framework to help teams continuously improve agile practices in large-scale and fast-expanding R&D centre. the framework is expected to be a closed-loop, light-weighted and sustainable one with positive business impact. To address these requirements, after several rounds of pilot, a "Revisit" framework is figured out, which consists of five major phases: 1) Goal/Problem-driven planning;2) Light-weight audit;3) Audit result analysis and reporting;4) On-demand Competence Development support leveraging resources across the organization;5) Progress tracking and effectiveness check. Also, a joint-force including a Revisit team, Revisit agents, and ScrumMaster community is setup to ensure the effective execution. Initial results indicate promising evidence this approach can help teams' quality and efficiency improvement.

One of the hallmarks of a co-located agile team is the simple and open flow of information between its members. In a co-located setting, peripheral awareness, osmotic communication and simple information radiators support agile principles such as collective ownership, minimal documentation and simple design, and facilitate smooth collaboration. However in a dispersed agile team, where individual team members are distributed across several sites, these mechanisms are not available and information sharing has to be more explicit. Research into distributed software development has been tackling similar issues, but little work has been reported into dispersed agile teams. this paper reports on a field study of one successful partially dispersed agile team. Using a distributed cognition analysis which focuses on information propagation and transformation within the team we investigate how the team collaborates and compare our findings withthose from co-located teams.
this paper presents an interdisciplinary case study of using extremeprogramming (XP) in a mathematics education research project. the educational focus of the study was the use of images and metaphors by children. th...

the majority of non-profit organizations, including those in the sustainability sector, use theory of Change to define, plan, and evaluate their change initiatives [14, 26]. "theory of Change is essentially a comprehensive description and illustration of how and why a desired change is expected to happen in a particular context." [5] Both, theory of Change and agile acknowledge that before a plan is validated by implementation, everything is an assumption and all assumptions may have to change until validated by delivery. therefore, planning and evaluation must both be responsive to change, and both must incorporate new learning. this paper presents an overview of theory of Change and examines how it can align and connect withagile. the agile community is starting to take more responsibility for sustainability, and it is beginning to support the sustainability sector as the second appearance of the "Workshop on agile Sustainability" at the XP 2022 conference shows. However, when supporting the sustainability sector, agile practitioners are likely to encounter theory of Change, and they will need to understand it. thus, this paper provides an overview of theory of Change and identifies connections between the theory of Change approach and agile mindsets, methods, and practices. this will especially help and encourage agile practitioners to support the sustainability sector.

One important discussion in the software development field is related to the skills that people need to have to build successful software products. this debate is generated on one hand by a large number of failures and delays of software projects. On the other hand, the debate is triggered by the need to build even better-quality software in a rapidly changing world. We will examine to which extent soft skills are relevant when hiring software testers and if there are any specific skills required for agile testers. We analyzed 400 job advertisements for testers from 33 countries, out of which 64% ask for soft skills. Of the advertisements asking for soft skills, there is, on average, a request for 5 soft skills, 11 testing skills, and 5 technical skills. Only 30% of the companies ask explicitly for agile testers. However, our analysis shows no notable differences in skill demands for agile testers and the rest. software companies want to hire testers who can communicate well and have analytical and problem-solving skills. there is a significant increase in the need for openness and adaptability, independent-working and team-playing since 2012. In addition, there are new categories of soft skills identified, such as having work ethics, customer-focus and the ability to work under pressure.
