Dynamic information in Geo information systems has three or more dimensions, two or three locational and one temporal. To handle such complex structures as dynamic information, method support is needed. the method must be based on a model of the dynamic situation or real world and have computer-based tools (CASE tools) at its disposal. Here, the steps in the DGIS method and the criteria of the D-CASE tool with its predefined objects are presented.

the structures for the storage of data in CAD systems influence to a large extent the effectiveness of the system. this paper reviews the wide range of data structures and database management systems (DBMS) available for structuring CAD data. Examples of basic data types are drawn from the MODULA-2 language. the relationship between these basic data types, their composite structures and the classical data models (on which many DBMS are based) is discussed, and the limitations of existing DBMS in modelling CAD data highlighted. A set of requirements for CAD database management systems is drawn up and the emerging role of product models (which seek to encapsulate the totality of data elements required to define fully an engineering artefact) is explored. this paper addresses the integration issues at the preliminary design stage in order to support analysis and decision-making while considering a design from the viewpoint of different disciplines. the paper describes a research project for investigating and designing a framework for intelligent linkage between design drawings and other information system environments, providing access to both external databases and design methods at the preliminary design stage. Accessing such information at this stage will allow designers to carry out the rapid evaluation of design alternatives, analysis and decision-making in a multi-disciplinary, multiagent design environment. the objectives of the research are outlined, the methodology is discussed and the first application results are demonstrated. the approximation capabilities of Takagi-Sugeno models are investigated. Classical results on the approximation of regular functions are improved showing that these more general models may approximate to any degree of accuracy not only sufficiently smooth functions but also their first and second-order derivatives.

A study approaches to construction project management evaluation revealed inadequacies in for example, the lack of a systematic strategy that is based on clearly defined criteria, historical databanks and standardised techniques. Further study confirmed the need for a computer-based evaluation system that facilitates more realistic assessments, by using relevant criteria, appropriate indicators, suitable tools and a knowledge-based front-end that helps select and integrate the necessary modules from a comprehensive knowledge-bank. Project specific evaluation instruments derived from such a computer-based system are shown to be more efficient in the effective assessment of construction projects and their management.
