With the rapid increase of data in mobile edge computing (MEC) networks, mobile devices (MDs) have been generating many computation-latency-sensitive tasks. As the MDs are limited by resources in terms of storage, computation, and bandwidth, part of tasks have to be offloaded to the edge of mobile networks or the remote cloud for more efficient processing. Hence, task offloading plays a vital role in this scene. Existing works about task offloading mainly aim at one-shot task offloading and rarely consider the dependencies of tasks. In this paper, we focus on minimizing the maximum delay of processing a series of tasks with dependencies in MEC networks, which supports device-to-device communications. Specifically, we consider task offloading under a hybrid scenario with a small base station (SBS) deployed with an edge server (ES) and several MDs which generate several tasks with dependencies. then we model the tasks to a weighted directed acyclic graph (DAG) and formulate the optimization problem as minimizing the critical path of the weighted DAG. To tackle this NP-hard problem, we propose a heuristic scheme to iteratively optimize the delay of paths of the weighted DAG under the constraints of the ES. To evaluate the proposed scheme, we perform numerical experiments with different numbers of tasks. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme outperforms other schemes in terms of reducing the system delay and saving the energy consumption of the MDs. © 2021 IEEE.

Due to the advent of fancy smart technology, various kinds of Apps based on smart phones have been developed recently. Many universities and research centers started to organize their own App Centers a few years ago to construct their own software and content. Among Apps, the Apps for ubiquitous learning are also popular. In this paper, we design and develop new Apps that can help the interaction between instructors and students in classrooms and out of classrooms for active learning. Our Apps are developed based on MIT's App Inventor and Google App Engine. With the database stored in Google App Engine, instructors can give their students multiple-choice questions and closed-answer questions. Also, the students can ask questions to their teachers during class and after school. By doing these, the teachers can examine both performance assessments and students' attendances at the same time. Our Apps can also be used as a questionnaire tool for courses. In this paper, we also describe the learning process for middle school students who have no programming experience on smart phone Apps with KWLN charts. In this paper, we also describe how we used KWLN charts for our students' programming skills as an instruction method. © 2013 Springer Science+Business Media.

Objective this paper classified Mongolian medicine prescription into certain types by using fuzzy c-means algorithm(FCM) and hard c-means algorithm(HCM), and explored the rationality of two kinds of clustering algorithm. Methods this paper chose 35 Mongolian medicine prescription for treating heat syndrome disease as experimental data, and preprocessed the data first, and then classified medicine prescription into 4,5,6 types by using fuzzy c-means algorithm(FCM) and hard c-means algorithm(HCM). Results Compared with HCM, the classification results of FCM are more evenly classified and consistent with the ideas of the original literature. therefore, the FCM algorithm is more reasonable. Conclusion According to results of Mongolian prescription clustering analysis, FCM has a better clustering effect than HCM, which can be widely used in Mongolian prescription clustering analysis, and will provide decision-making support function for the development of new drug.

this study examines the quality differences between AI-generated and human-generated code through an evaluation of multiple software quality metrics, including maintainability, complexity, and documentation. Using a dataset of 5,312 code samples—2,700 human-generated and 2,612 AI-generated—we applied machine learning techniques to classify and analyze the code based on these metrics. the results revealed that AI-generated code tends to excel in maintainability and documentation, demonstrating higher maintainability index scores and a higher ratio of comments. Additionally, AI-generated code often features simpler control structures, reflected in its lower cyclomatic complexity. In contrast, human-generated code showcased greater adaptability and flexibility, particularly in addressing complex problem statements. A neural network classifier achieved 88.05% accuracy in distinguishing between the two code origins, with comments ratio, maintainability index, and cyclomatic complexity being the most significant differentiators. these findings highlight the complementary roles of AI and human contributions in software development, suggesting strategic integration of both for enhanced efficiency and quality.

A context-aware personal agent (CPA) adapts to the changing contexts of its user. Platys is an agent-oriented software engineering (AOSE) framework that supports the development and execution of CPAs. Specifically, the framework (1) facilitates modeling a CPA via cognitive constructs, simplifying development, and (2) delegates the concerns of context elicitation (from end users) and acquisition (from sensors) to a middleware, enhancing reusability and user experience as a user employs multiple CPAs.

Otsu's global automatic image thresholding technique is widely used in various computer vision-based applications. this paper presents a resource-efficient architecture for the design of Otsu's thresholding algorithm and its implementation in field-programmable gate array (FPGA). the proposed architecture is implemented for a 640x480 size of input image that is captured by a real-time high-resolution analog camera and buffered in a DDR2 SDRAM memory. the computation of between-class variance in Otsu's algorithm requires the evaluation of a normalized cumulative histogram, mean and cumulative moments, which need single-cycle read-modify-write operations. these operations are achieved by incorporating the FPGA's slices, dual-port Block RAM memories and DSP slices with DDR2 SDRAM as a frame buffer. the data path of the architecture is fixed-point arithmetic based and it does not require any divider. the proposed design is implemented in Xilinx Virtex-5 xc5vfx70tffg1136-1 FPGA device, available on the Xilinx ML-507 platform. In order to develop the required hardware and software in an integrated method, the Xilinx Embedded Development Kit (EDK) design tool is used.

A PC based system is an attractive alternative to conventional methods of industrial quality assurance for its high reliability at lower cost. A custom assembled system with user friendly software is ideal for industries, especially when the quantity requirement is small. this concept is illustrated with an example of the development of a PC based test system for the quality assurance of hydrocephalus shunt-a neurosurgical implant. During the technology transfer of the device, a 16 channel PC controlled test system has been developed for classifying the device according to their pressure-flow characteristics. Here, the speed of the multichannel peristaltic pump is controlled for various flow rates ranging from 5 ml/hour to 50 ml/hour and the corresponding pressure drop sensed by the transducer is amplified, digitized and monitored. Depending on the measured values, the software classifies all the accepted devices in appropriate ranges and rejects the rest. the test results are printed out in proper format. All the subsystems and components used are in modular form and are standard products of leading manufacturers, enabling the user industry to operate and maintain the system without the help of the developer.

Conventional vehicular systems are gradually evolving into intelligent transportation systems. Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC) has become an important component of the software-defined vehicular networks that benefit from the introduction of reliable and low latency 5G networks and Wi-Fi. MEC offers a variety of smart services closer to the access networks leveraged by vehicles. the intelligent and connected vehicles demand access to compute-intensive applications that require compute and storage resources in addition to what is available in vehicles today. the computational burden on the connected vehicles can be significantly reduced by offloading to the MEC nodes and to the cloud. However, existing computational offloading schemes are challenged by the fast-moving vehicles, frequent handovers and subtle differences to the scenarios designed to support mobile phone handovers. the paper presents a software-defined vehicular edge computing architecture that copes with the mobility challenges by utilising the software Defined Networking paradigm to perform traffic flow management for information collection and intelligent management of connected vehicles and networks.

Bipolar disorder (BD) is a severe psychiatric disease that is associated with a variety of physical disorders that substantially contribute to morbidity and mortality. People with BD now face a higher risk of stroke in recent years. the goal of this work is to identify therapeutic candidates and associated pathways with the help of a number of bioinformatics techniques. GSE23848 and GSE58294 microarray datasets are utilized for BD and stroke samples. Datasets are preprocessed and screened by making using R language, and then concordant differentially expressed genes (DEGs) are found. the DEGs’ regulatory structure is illustrated with a venn diagram. After that, protein-protein interactions (PPIs) are constructed based on the concordant DEGs and the most active genes are discovered using topological assessment. CBL, LY96, TLR5, TRAF6, and TLR4 are the leading 5 hub genes in the PPI network. the pathways of KEGG showed that the concordant DEGs are associated with the Toll-like receptor signaling pathway and Hepatitis B. Gene ontology (GO), TF and miRNA analysis and module analysis network is considered the future work of this research. Finally, the assortment of drug compounds have been suggested based on the concordant DEGs.

Bug resolution refers to the activity that developers perform to diagnose, fix, test, and document bugs during software development and maintenance. It is a collaborative activity among developers who contribute their knowledge, ideas, and expertise to resolve bugs. Given a bug report, we would like to recommend the set of bug resolvers that could potentially contribute their knowledge to fix it. We refer to this problem as developer recommendation for bug resolution. In this paper, we propose a new and accurate method named DevRec for the developer recommendation problem. DevRec is a composite method which performs two kinds of analysis: bug reports based analysis (BR-Based analysis), and developer based analysis (D-Based analysis). In the BR-Based analysis, we characterize a new bug report based on past bug reports that are similar to it. Appropriate developers of the new bug report are found by investigating the developers of similar bug reports appearing in the past. In the D-Based analysis, we compute the affinity of each developer to a bug report based on the characteristics of bug reports that have been fixed by the developer before. this affinity is then used to find a set of developers that are “close” to a new bug report. We evaluate our solution on 5 large bug report datasets including GCC, OpenOffice, Mozilla, Netbeans, and Eclipse containing a total of 107,875 bug reports. We show that DevRec could achieve recall@5 and recall@10 scores of 0.4826-0.7989, and 0.6063-0.8924, respectively. We also compare DevRec with other state-of-art methods, such as Bugzie and DREX. the results show that DevRec on average improves recall@5 and recall@10 scores of Bugzie by 57.55% and 39.39% respectively. DevRec also outperforms DREX by improving the average recall@5 and recall@10 scores by 165.38% and 89.36%, respectively.
