In this paper, we propose a new design, called as spatial transmit diversity-achieving ESM (STD-ESM) with transmit antenna grouping, which further enhance the communication quality in MIMO system. In our STD-ESM, all available transmit antennas (TAs) are divided into multiple groups, each with one or two active antennas. In order to obtain the diversity gain from the transmitter, multiple versions of the signal symbol(s) from three different constellations are respectively modulated by the selected antenna index (AI) vectors on the active antenna(s) in each group. Furthermore, the transmit rate and the bit error probability (BEP) are provided. Finally, computer simulation results verify that a lower BEP performance can be achieved by the STD-ESM in comparison with existing spatial modulations.
