In recent years, societal changes have led to a growing prominence of pets in people's lives. However, uncontrolled pet reproduction in urban areas has given rise to a significant issue of stray animals, posing serious threats to human health and the environment. Conventional manual methods for counting stray animals face challenges in terms of efficiency and the risk of disease transmission. With technological advancements, image recognition, and sound identification, among other techniques, have emerged as crucial tools to address this issue. Image recognition, leveraging intuitive statistics based on external features, combined with the low-power attributes of sound identification and the health assessment capabilities of thermal imaging, collectively provide comprehensive technological support for stray animal population statistics. In the realm of image algorithms, both traditional target detection algorithms and deep learning methods such as RCNN and Faster RCNN employ convolutional neural networks to accurately identify and locate stray animals. Regarding sound algorithms, traditional Gaussian mixture models and hidden Markov models, as well as deep learning techniques involving convolutional neural networks, have effectively enhanced the accuracy of stray animal sound recognition. the integration of image and audio in a hybrid method significantly enhances stray animal monitoring. Employing advanced techniques in video tracking and sound recognition, this approach offers an efficient and practical solution, crucial for wildlife ecosystem surveillance and conservation. Research indicates that the application of deep learning methods in the domains of image and sound has significantly advanced compared to traditional approaches. In terms of image processing, I utilized the YOLO algorithm to perform grid division, feature extraction, and loss computation steps to achieve stray animal detection, demonstrating outstanding performance. through the application of t

the aim of the paper is to estimate the contribution of the polarization diversity in high frequency (3 - 30 MHz) direction finding systems. We first describe the peculiarities of H.F. propagation and the resulting signal model involved in computer simulations. Next, we analyze the behavior of some particular direction finding systems using linear and circular geometries and polarization diversity. Some algorithms (non linear frequential analysis, M.U.S.I.C.) are tested in several conditions (narrowband or broadband signals, polarization filtering reiterated or no, sub-sampling). theoretical and experimental results show that polarization diversity based upon the knowledge of the antenna complex responses improves greatly the efficiency of direction finding.

this paper is an attempt to bring some theory on the top of some previously unproved experimental statements about the double-base number system (DBNS). We use results from diophantine approximation to address the problem of converting integers into DBNS. Although the material presented in this article is mainly theoretical, the proposed algorithm could lead to very efficient implementations.

A methodology for constructing parallel embedded DSP systems is described. the method uses a software and embedded processor abstraction to help raise the level of problem analysis above the raw state machine concept. Custom architectures are constructed by using multiple copies of a core embedded processor linked together with FIFO memories or other communication structures, and augmented with appropriate high speed data manipulation IO devices. this paper explores the use of a double-base number system (DBNS) in constant integer multiplication. the DBNS recoding technique represents constants in a multiple-radix way in the hopes of minimizing computation during constant multiplication. the paper presents a proof to show that multiple-radix representation diminishes the number of additions in a sublinear way. We prove Lefevre's conjecture that the multiplication by an integer constant is achievable in sublinear time. the proof is based on some interesting properties of the double-base number system. the paper provides numerical data showcasing some of the most recent results.

this paper outlines means of combining and reconciling concepts associated with Cohen's class of distributions and with the wavelet transform. Both have their assets and their liabilities. Previous work has shown that one can decompose any time-frequency distribution (TFD) in Cohen's class into a weighted sum of spectrogram. A set of orthogonal analysis windows which also have the scaling property in common with wavelets is proposed. Successful application of this theory offers very fast computation of TFDs, since very few analysis windows may be needed and fast algorithms can be used. In addition, the decomposition idea offers the possibility of shaping the analysis such that good local and global properties as well as a number of desirable TFD properties are retained. Finally, one may view the result in terms of conventional Cohen's class concepts or, alternatively, in terms of wavelet concepts and potentially combine powerful insights and concepts from both points of view. Preliminary results applied to radar backscatter are provided. Performance curves for several wavelet types are also provided.

Custom computers comprising of a host processor and FPGAs have been proposed to accelerate computationally complex problems. Whilst the FPGA implementation might be considerably faster than its microprocessor counterpart, this performance acceleration can be degraded by the time to reconfigure the FPGA hardware. this paper demonstrates a technique for developing circuits that can reduce the reconfiguration overhead. Circuits for three basic arithmetic functions multiplication, division and square root have been developed using the Xilinx XC6200 reconfigurable FPGA family. Reconfiguration times have been measured by downloading the designs to the VCC HOTWorks custom computing board. A reduction in reconfiguration time of up to 75% has been demonstrated using this design approach.

this paper presents a general FIR filter architecture utilizing truncated tree multipliers for computation. the average error, maximum error, and variance of error due to truncation are derived for the proposed architecture. A novel technique that reduces the average error of the filter is presented, along with equations for computing the signal-to-noise ratio of the truncation error. A software tool written in Java is described that automatically generates structural VHDL models for specific filters based on this architecture, given parameters such as the number of taps, operand lengths, number of multipliers, and number of truncated columns. We show that a 22.5 % reduction in area can be achieved for a 24-tap filter with 16-bit operands, 4 parallel multipliers, and 12 truncated columns. For this implementation, the average reduction error is only 9.18 x 10(-5) ulps, and the reduction error SNR is only 2.4 dB less than the roundoff SNR of an equivalent filter without truncation.

this paper presents an acceleration method, using both algorithmic and architectural means, for last calculation of local correlation coefficients, which is a basic image-based information processing step for template or pattern matching, image registration, motion or change detection and estimation, compensation of changes, or compression of representations, among other information processing objectives. For real-time applications, the complexity in arithmetic operations as well as in programming and memory access latency had been a divisive issue between the so-called correction-based methods and the Fourier domain methods. In the presented method, the complexity in calculating local correlation coefficients is reduced via equivalent reformulation that leads to efficient array operations or enables the use of multi-dimensional fast Fourier transforms, without losing or sacrificing local and non-linear changes or characteristics. the computation time is further reduced by utilizing modern multi-core architectures, such as the Sony-Toshiba-IBM Cell processor, with high processing speed and low power consumption.

Space-time codes from orthogonal designs have two advantages, namely, fast maximum-likelihood (NIL) decoding and full diversity. Rate 1 real (PAM) space-time codes (real orthogonal designs) for any transmit antennas have been constructed from the real Hurwitz-Radon families, which also provides the rate 1/2 complex (QAM) space-time codes (complex orthogonal designs) for any number of transmit antennas. Rate 3/4 complex orthogonal designs (space-time codes) for 3 and 4 transmit antennas have existed in the literature but no high rate (> 1/2) complex orthogonal designs for other numbers of transmit antennas exists. In this correspondence, we present rate 7/11 and rate 3/5 generalized complex orthogonal designs for 5 and 6 transmit antennas, respectively.
