Chemical taste is indispensable information in food testing. the technical of electronic tongue system is one of research directions to identify different chemical tastes. this paper focuses on the patternrecognition method based on learning vector quantization (LVQ) neural network. the electronic tongue system designed could identify all the samples of beer, fruit juice and milk successfully in the experiments. the result shows that LVQ neural network is applicable in the patternrecognition of electronic tongue system and can also be used on condition that information is gathered by multisensors array. the patternrecognition methods of the universal electronic tongue are proposed in this paper. the effective universal electronic tongue has much advantage over others such as simple methods of patternrecognition and classification, easy training approaches and wider application fields.

Abnormal patterns in control charts are some unnatural causes for variations in statistical process control (SPC) and need to be eliminated so that control chart patternrecognition becomes important in SPC. Although patternrecognition techniques have been widely applied to identify abnormal patterns in control charts, a complete patternrecognition system should better have the abilities withpattern identification and parameter estimation. In this paper, we present an integrated control chart patternrecognition system which contains a correlation coefficient method for pattern identification and RBF neural networks for parameter estimation. We consider with concurrent patterns where two abnormal patterns may simultaneously occur in a control chart patternrecognition system. the correlation coefficient method is used for identification of abnormal control charts with single and concurrent abnormal patterns. RBF neural networks are then used for constructing the relation among input-output data so that they are adopted to accomplish parameter estimation for abnormal patterns. this integrated control chart patternrecognition system can be effectively used in real-time processing. We demonstrate their usefulness with several examples.
