In P2P file sharing, problems can occur due to harmful content distributed by malicious peers and many solutions using reputation management have been proposed. However, none of these solutions are effective in relay-transfer P2P file sharing where a peer automatically relays content and creates content caches. this is because all the existing solutions only allow an evaluation of the peers without filtering harmful content in the network. We propose a reputation method for suppressing harmful content in relay-transfer P2P file sharing. In our method, we assign a reputation value to both content and peer and introduce content filtering applied at each relay. A peer who actively relays harmful content will be assigned a lower reputation value, and this can reduce the impact of harmful content and malicious peers. Simulations have shown the effectiveness of our method in terms of the diffusion of normal and harmful content. © 2010 ieee.

Image/Video sensor Networks are emerging applications for sensor network technologies, allowing visual data to be returned to interested observers. In this paper, we present a complete Image/Video sensor Web design and implementation experience, in which an Internet-Accessible Image/Video sensor Web Testbed is build. Selected experiment designs and results for multi-hop image/video sensor network applications are also presented to illustrate the operation and effectiveness of using the testbed to study Image/Video sensor Network related problems.

Pattern recognition approaches are commonly adopted by many wireless sensor network applications due to their traditional effectiveness in detecting and recognising events. Nonetheless, employing off-the-shelf pattern recognition approaches is generally infeasible. this paper presents a new energy efficient distributed pattern recognition approach based on information processing and sleep mode paradigms of sensor networks. Events of interest are recognised by the cooperative operations of the sensor nodes instead of depending on a base-station. Moreover, the aim of the approach is to attain effective event recognition performance whilst prolonging the network's longevity by switching off sensor nodes and processing sensory data within the network.

the significance that Ambient Intelligence (Ami) has acquired in recent years requires the development of innovative solutions. Nonetheless, the development of Ami-based systems requires the creation of increasingly complex and flexible applications. In this regard, the use of context-aware technologies is an essential aspect in these developments to perceive stimuli from the context and react upon it autonomously. this work presents a novel platform that defines a method for integrating dynamic and self-adaptable heterogeneous Wireless sensor Networks (WSNs). this approach facilitates the inclusion of context-aware capabilities when developing intelligent ubiquitous systems, where functionalities can communicate in a distributed way. Furthermore, the information obtained must be managed by intelligent and self-adaptable technologies to provide an adequate interaction between the users and their environment. Agents and Multi-Agent systems are one of these technologies. the agents have characteristics such as autonomy, reasoning, reactivity, social abilities and pro-activity which make them appropriate for developing dynamic and distributed systems based on Ami. this way, the integration of the platform with a Service-Oriented Multi-Agent architecture is proposed. Finally, conclusions and future work are presented. © 2010 ieee.

An optimally designed GPS receiver can typically achieve 3-5 meters accuracy. this accuracy is insufficient for autonomous navigation where the margin of error must be low. Some existing sensor fusion approaches (IMU and GPS fusion using EKF) can achieve 2-3 meters (average error of 2.66 meters) accuracy, but the existing systems cannot function if the GPS receiver is not functional. Other modern techniques like Differential GPS are expensive to implement. Hence an accurate, cost-effective, and available alternative is required. As an alternative to Conventional GPS which typically has an accuracy of 3-5m which is not sufficient for autonomous navigation, a system that consists of data from LiDAR, IMU, and GPS has been implemented using sensor fusion with the help of error state extended Kalman filter. the implemented system was put to test using data synthesized from Carla Simulator. the proposed system was shown to have improved accuracy by reducing the position error by nearly 95%. © 2022 ieee.

the Internet of things is envisaged to deliver constant information flow from the physical objects in our world and make the sensory information about our environment available online. this paper presents the on-going work to integrate the physical world with the largely available Internet infrastructure by a model that interconnect wireless sensor networks with social networks. the paper provides a design and framework for employing social networks to facilitate the collaboration and coordination of distributed sensor networks. Seamlessly exchanging sensory measurements amongst geographically dispersed sensor networks is anticipated to enhance our capability to capture the status of the physical world and to realise a smart environment once sensory information is delivered to various machineries in the world. Additionally, sensor networks may utilise social networks for distributing the sensing responsibilities amongst sensor networks, and as a result prolonging the lifetime of the networks whilst maintaining constant monitoring and detection of the environment.

In this work, we present the process of identifying potential vulnerabilities in 6LoWPAN enabled networks through fuzzing. the 6LowPAN protocol has been designed by the IETF as an adaptation layer of IPv6 for Low power and lossy networks. the fuzzing process is build upon the Scapy packets manipulation library. It provides different mutation algorithms to be applied on 6LoWPAN protocol messages to assess its implementations security and robustness. the protocol behaviors are described using an XML format to define different testing scenarios.

this paper proposes a novel distributed Pub/Sub (publish/subscribe) system for real-time video surveillance using interconnected wireless mesh networks (WMNs) and wireless sensor networks (WSNs). the proposed system enables the users to subscribe events of interests and deliver the real-time captured video content of event to the users. In this paper, we first introduce our strategy of interconnecting WMNs and WSNs then describe the design of the system. We consider the content translation and association between these two types of networks to enable the Pub/Sub video service. the implementation of the video surveillance system for traffic monitoring will also be introduced followed by the experiments for evaluation.

the design and simulation of an agent processing platform suitable for distributed computing in heterogeneous sensor networks consisting of low-resource nodes is presented, providing a unique distributed programming model and enhanced robustness of the entire heterogeneous environment in the presence of node, sensor, link, data processing, and communication failures. In this work multi-agent systems with mobile activity-based agents are used for sensor data processing in unreliable mesh-like networks of nodes, consisting of a single microchip with limited low computational resources, which can be integrated into materials and technical structures. the agent behaviour, based on an activity-transition graph model, the interaction, and mobility can be efficiently integrated on the microchip using a configurable pipelined multi-process architecture based on the Petri-Net model and token-based processing. A new sub-state partitioning of activities simplifies and optimizes the processing platform significantly. Additionally, software implementations and simulation models with equal functional behaviour can be derived from the same program source. Hardware, software, and simulation platforms can be directly connected in heterogeneous networks. Agent interaction and communication is provided by a simple tuple-space database. A reconfiguration mechanism of the agent processing system offers activity graph changes at run-time. the suitability of the agent processing platform in large scale networks is demonstrated by using agent-based simulation of the platform architecture at process level with hundreds of nodes.

Data representation in devices of industrial systems is simple data. However, the structural data organization is used in upper layers of such systems. this information can be modeled by vendors, which of course would lead to different ways of how to model similar information thus makes the life hard for clients, e.g., OPC clients. there are efforts to define a base model to expose device information and device types. A vendor will use this base model and extend it with vendor-specific information about its devices. this paper introduces an object-oriented data model based on the OPC Unified Architecture (UA) specifications and Unified Modeling Language (UML) used for communication in distributed industrial systems. this model is applied for device and information models to provide data for enterprise systems. © 2010 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
