In this paper, we present a novel energy efficient routing protocol for wireless sensor networks in which the sensor nodes as well as the base station are mobile. the protocol is hierarchical and cluster based from network structure perspective. Each cluster contains one cluster head node and two deputy cluster head nodes. the re-clustering time and energy has been minimized by introducing the concept of cluster head panel. Some simulation results are shown which depict the energy efficiency and prolonged life time of the nodes under the influence of the proposed protocol. Future scope of the work is outlined.

Till date, sensor network research has assumed that the cost of transmitting a sensor reading over the network is much higher than the cost of sampling a sensor. However, this assumption is no longer always valid, due to availability of new generation sensor platform hardware, which utilizes industry standard mesh-networking protocols such as ZigBee on top of relatively high-speed, yet low-power wireless radios. In fact, we have experimentally verified that the energy consumed for acquiring a sample from a sensor can be significantly higher than the energy consumed for transmitting its reading over the network. Hence, new querying strategies need to be formulated, which optimize the order of sampling sensors across the network in such a manner that sensors with expensive acquisition costs are not sampled unless absolutely required. We propose distributed pull-push querying mechanisms, which optimize the query plan by adapting to variable costs of acquiring readings from different sensors across the network. the goal of these mechanisms is to minimize the energy consumption of nodes executing a query while ensuring that the latency of query response does not exceed user-specified bounds. To validate our approach, we also describe experimental results, which analyze the performance of various plan options in terms of energy consumption and latency under the effect of various parameters such as selectivity of data and number of sensors participating in the query. © 2010 ieee.

In this paper we introduce a probabilistic detection model for sensors. A sensor can detect a close event based on sensitivity measures. this sensitivity is a function of the distance between the sensor and the event and also includes thermal noise. this leads to a probabilistic detection of events. We then describe a Local Fusion Detection algorithm which gathers the measurements of neighboring sensors to build a decision related to events that may occur in a given area. We compare the Local Fusion Detection (LFD) technique with the usual Single Node Detection (SND) technique where each sensor decides whether or not to report the detection of an event based only on its local information. We build an analytical model to compare both techniques. We show that LFD outperforms SND. this remains true when energy consumption is taken into account and whether the nodes are located on a regular grid or randomly distributed.

distributed generation (DG) can be used to generate a customer's entire electricity supply; for peak shaving; for standby or emergency generation; as a green power source; or for increased reliability. In this paper, analytical approaches for optimal placement of DG with unity power factor in power systems are presented. Placement of DG in a radial feeder is analyzed and the theoretical optimal site (bus) for adding DG is obtained for different types of loads and DG sources. the proposed methods are tested by a series of simulations on radial feeders to show the effectiveness of the proposed methods in determining the optimal bus for placing DG. © 2010 ieee.

Resource allocation in Wireless sensor Networks (WSNs) is certainly a challenging issue. WSNs are characterized by special features, like energy constraints and limited computing resources. Latest trends define that sensors should be able to provide Quality of Service (QoS) demanding data transmission. A modern approach in bandwidth sharing considers both the packet queue load as well as the traffic priority. A new QoS aware channel sharing approach is introduced, analyzing the effect of queue load in WSN Medium Access Control (MAC). the analysis reveals that the queue load factor has a great impact on QoS provision in bandwidth sharing, while packet priorities are also considered.

Designing intelligent navigation systems is a challenging task because environmental uncertainty may prevent mission accomplishment. this paper presents a smart wheelchair navigation system using information from the goal position indicated by the user's gaze. the system tracks the user's head with a web camera to determine the direction where the gaze is fixed. then, it detects the area that the user gazed at, in the panoramic image obtained from an omni-directional camera and sets the area as the destination. Once the destination is fixed, navigation starts by rotating the wheelchair heading to the destination by visual servoing with SURF descriptors around the destination area. During maneuver, a laser range sensor scans critical wheelchair's area for obstacles. If detected, their distribution is analyzed to generate steering commands for avoiding them and eventually ensuring the wheelchair's pose towards the goal. Experimental operation in indoor environments has shown the feasibility of the proposed system.

Achieving optimal actor resources usage is one of the fundamental issues in Wireless sensor and Actor Networks (WSANs). One solution is to maximize the mutually exclusive regions (i.e., regions covered by one actor). In this paper, we take a novel approach to define and resolve the mutual exclusion problem. We propose CRMEA, (Centralized Resource-based Mutual Exclusion Algorithm), that constructs an actor cover set whose cost is less than the sole mutual exclusion algorithm existing in the literature. In addition, extensions supporting dynamic acting range and mobility are added to CRMEA. Simulation results show that the proposed extensions can save up to 50%-90% of actor resources when compared with CRMEA. In addition, the mobility extension can overcome the large event-to-action delay problem and meet the requirements of the delay-sensitive applications.

this work addresses the integration of wireless nodes organized in meshed Zigbee networks with other nodes linked together over CANbus, which required a special purpose gateway. this solution allowed for transparent flows of information originating in both sensors and actuators in heavy industrial applications, encompassing different requirements regarding data rate and power source, especially in specific cases where power supply cabling is mandatory: pure wireless operation being therefore compromised we resort to CANbus to support both supply and communication amongst those nodes. In this manner, hybrid networks can be easily built-up and managed, where cabled islands of sensors/actuators can be part of a wireless network of devices of the same kind spreading throughout a larger area.

In this paper, we propose an efficient planarization algorithm and a routing algorithm dedicated to Unit Disk Graphs whose nodes are localized using the Virtual Raw Anchor Coordinate system (VRAC).Our first algorithm computes a planar 2-spanner under light constraints on the edge lengths and induces a total exchange of at most 6n node identifiers. Its total complexity is O(nΔ), with Δ the maximum degree of the communication graph. the second algorithm that we present is a simple and efficient algorithm to route messages in this planar graph that requires routing tables with only three entries. We support these theoretical results by simulations showing the robustness of our algorithms when the coordinates are inaccurate.
