In this work, we present the process of identifying potential vulnerabilities in 6LoWPAN enabled networks through fuzzing. the 6LowPAN protocol has been designed by the IETF as an adaptation layer of IPv6 for Low power and lossy networks. the fuzzing process is build upon the Scapy packets manipulation library. It provides different mutation algorithms to be applied on 6LoWPAN protocol messages to assess its implementations security and robustness. the protocol behaviors are described using an XML format to define different testing scenarios.

In this paper, we develop a new power-efficient algorithm for Wireless sensor Networks (WSN) in order to obtain, in a distributed manner, the Projection of an observed sampled spatial field on a subspace of lower dimension. this is an important problem that is motivated in various applications where there are well defined subspaces of interest (e. g. spectral maps in cognitive radios). As opposed to traditional Gossip Algorithms used for subspace projection assuming separation of channel coding and computation, our algorithm combines Computational Coding and a modification of existing Gossip Algorithms, achieving important savings in convergence time and yielding an exponential decrease in energy consumption as the size of the network increases.

Embedded devices connected to the Internet will start an increasing growth of the Internet in near future. Wireless sensor Networks (WSN) will play a major role in that growth. In the past several solutions were proposed to make sensor networks IP capable. Today there are IPv6-Stacks available including web servers running on sensor nodes. However, a gateway is always needed to convert the routing protocols and MAC-Layer Protocols including compression of IP packets to run on these devices. the overhead using IPv6 on the nodes is very high in respect of code size and message overhead. therefore, in our approach we design and implement a system based on simple protocols target for sensor network nodes and a flexible gateway working in a hybrid fashion for our sensor network testbed. We successfully integrated this non-IP WSN in the Internet and our testbed is productive available from any computer connected to the Internet for reference. In this paper we present the architecture of our solution and present the implementation details of a standard WSN application that can be used for evaluation.

In this paper, we propose an efficient planarization algorithm and a routing algorithm dedicated to Unit Disk Graphs whose nodes are localized using the Virtual Raw Anchor Coordinate system (VRAC). Our first algorithm computes a planar 2-spanner under light constraints on the edge lengths and induces a total exchange of at most 6n node identifiers. Its total computational complexity is O(n Delta), with Delta the maximum degree of the communication graph. the second algorithm that we present is a simple and efficient algorithm to route messages in this planar graph that requires routing tables with only three entries. We support these theoretical results by simulations showing the robustness of our algorithms when the coordinates are inaccurate.

Real deployments of the IoT require security. CoAP is being standardized as an application layer protocol for the Internet of things (IoT). CoAP proposes to use DTLS to provide end-to-end security to protect the IoT. DTLS is a heavyweight protocol and its headers are too long to fit in a single ieee 802.15.4 MTU. 6LoWPAN provides header compression mechanisms to reduce the size of upper layer headers. 6LoWPAN header compression mechanisms can be used to compress the security headers as well. In this paper we propose 6LoWPAN header compression for DTLS. We link our compressed DTLS with the 6LoWPAN standard using standardized mechanisms. We show that our proposed DTLS compression significantly reduces the number of additional security bits. For example, only for the DTLS Record header that is added in every DTLS packet, the number of additional security bits can be reduced by 62%. Our compressed-DTLS is the first lightweight 6LoWPAN extension for DTLS.

the 8th ieee international conference on distributed computing in sensor systems (dcoss 2012) is taking place in Hangzhou, China, from Wednesday, May 16, to Friday, May 18, 2012. Previous editions have taken place in Barcelona, Spain (2011), Santa Barbara, USA (2010), Los Angeles, USA (2009), Santorini Island, Greece (2008), Santa Fe, USA (2007), San Francisco, USA (2006), and Marina del Rey, USA (2005). We are pleased to present the conference program to you. this year, the dcoss program features high-quality research presentations, two keynotes, and a poster and work-inprogress session. the conference program covers several aspects of distributed computing in sensor systems aligned with the three main tracks: algorithms and analysis, signal processing and information theory, and systems and applications. this year we received 100 submissions. Each submitted paper was reviewed by at least three Technical Program Committee experts, and ultimately a total of 34 papers were accepted. We will also feature three interesting workshops and one poster/demonstration/ work-in-progress session. We are proud to feature two excellent keynotes from leading experts on issues currently driving the distributed computing and sensor systems community. We hope that the technical program will provide a stimulating forum for researchers and practitioners throughout all three days. © 2012 ieee.

In this paper, we develop a novel strategy to compute the transition matrix for the projection problem in a distributed fashion through gossiping in Wireless sensor Networks. So far, the transition matrix had to be computed off-line by a third party and then provided to the network. the Subspace Projection Problem is useful in various application scenarios (e. g. spectral spatial maps in cognitive radios) and consists of projecting the observed sampled spatial field into a subspace of interest with lower dimension. Although the actual exact computation of the optimal transition matrix is not feasible in a distributed way, we develop an algorithm that is based on well known results from linear algebra and a distributed genetic algorithm in order to compute an approximation of the optimal matrix to a desired precision.

As technology advancements in robotics and wireless communication, tracking mobile targets using mobile sensors has aroused widespread concern in recent years. In this paper, we propose a novel coordinative moving strategy for autonomous mobile sensor networks to guarantee the target can be detected in each observed step while minimizing the amount of moving sensors. the proposed scheme consists of obtaining the current position of the target, which is then used to predict the next time-step location of the target. Once the uncertainty region of the target's position is defined, the proposed method allows the mobile sensors to cover it in an optimal way. therefore, we can assign each mobile sensor to an optimal location to cover the uncertainty region while minimizing the total traveled distance of sensors. Extensive simulations are given to evaluated performance and demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed strategy.

ieee 802.15.4 standard specifies a beacon-enabled mode which provides a synchronization environment using beacon transmissions. However, this mode is designed for single hop networks and its use in multi-hop networks is not straightforward. the main challenges of using beacon-enabled mode in multi-hop networks are how to efficiently schedule beacon transmissions to avoid direct and indirect beacon collisions and how to make a schedule tolerant to the clock drifts due to the low cost components. In this paper, we present TBoPS, a novel technique for scheduling beacons in the cluster tree topology. TBoPS uses a dedicated period called beacon only period (BOP) to schedule beacons at the beginning of ieee 802.15.4 superframe. the advantages of TBoPS is that every beacon-enabled node selects a beacon schedule distributively during association. We analysed the robustness of TBoPS to clock drifts. We also show through simulations that all nodes in the network are synchronized and follow the same superframe structure.

We present the design, implement and evaluation of a sensing platform for on-line multi-target tracking based on acoustic array networks, named Integrated Acoustic Array sensor Network Tracker (IAASNT). To provide on-line multi-target tracking service, a well-designed system structure is proposed, composed by supporting components and associations between each part. Among these, IAASNT's multi-level low-power management and integrated tracking frame set it different from other related platforms. the integrated tracking frame is the core of the system and has been carefully designed, to achieve a self-acting tracking service. Finally, a series of experiments on system have been done to evaluate the performance of IAASNT. the tracking experiments on system show a perfect tracking performance in both noise-free and noisy environment, and the tracking precision can be within 5.8m in 300*300m area.
