Modern societies are increasingly dependent on Critical Infrastructures (CIs) such as Smart Grids (SGs) and Intelligent Transportation systems (ITS). Due to continuously rising demands in terms of efficiency and capabilities, complex control and monitoring strategies are employed. these in turn rely on robust, high performance communication networks. As CIs are distributed systems with diverging demands, the deployment of individual networks is often too costly and time consuming. Furthermore, the vast physical scope traditionally results in unacceptably high end-to-end delays. therefore, a convergence of public and dedicated networks, as well as traditional Information and Communication Technology (ICT) with Information Technology (IT), are considered key aspects of 5G for addressing these challenges. Hence, this paper provides an empirical evaluation of CI communication services on basis of a Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV) driven Edge Clouds (ECs) within a sliced 5G network. By shifting computing resources from the backbone or back office towards the network's access level, ECs allow for drastically reduced delays. Also, the traffic load on several layers of the communication infrastructure is reduced, as data can be kept locally, i.e. close to the source. this is demonstrated by shifting an ITS application from a central cloud to the EC. Services are transferred step-wise and transparently, minimizing interruptions while dynamically adapting to the backhaul's available data rate. the developed system is evaluated under realistic traffic conditions within a physical testing enviromnent.

Non-interference (NI) is a property of systems stating that confidential actions should not cause effects observable by unauthorized users. Several variants of NI have been studied for many types of models but rarely for true concurrency or unbounded models. this work investigatesNI for High-level Message Sequence Charts (HMSCs), a scenario language for the description of distributed systems, based on composition of partial orders. We first propose a general definition of security properties in terms of equivalence among observations of behaviors. Observations are naturally captured by partial order automata, a formalism that generalizes HMSCs and permits assembling partial orders. We show that equivalence or inclusion properties for HMSCs (and hence for partial order automata) are undecidable, which means in particular that NI is undecidable for HMSCs. We hence consider decidable subclasses of partial order automata and HMSCs. Finally, we define weaker local properties, describing situations where a system is attacked by a single agent, and show that local NI is decidable. We then refine local NI to a finer notion of causal NI that emphasizes causal dependencies between confidential actions and observations and extend it to causal NI with (selective) declassification of confidential events. Checking whether a system satisfies local and causal NI and their declassified variants are PSPACE-complete problems.

the control of 5-degree of freedom humanoid robotic arm (HRA) in real time is proposed based on Kinect sensor. HRA model is designed based on Denavit–Hartenberg method. Kinect camera is employed to extract and pass the desired position from user to the inverse kinematic (IK). Next, IK is performed to find the desired angles for HRA model. these angles are converted to pulse width modulation signals and fed as a desired angle to each servo motor. then, the interval Type2 fuzzy logic controller (IT2FLC) is work in order to minimize the root mean square error (RMSE) between the desired and actual position. Finally, the simulation of graphical user interface (GUI) is designed to show the controlled motion of HRA model. Implementation and calculation results show the efficiency of the IT2FLC implementation after it is compared with Type1FLC (T1FLC). the simulation results showed that the IT2FLC is more accurate than T1FLC. the RMSE calculated by IT2FLC is less than the T1FLC. © the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2023.

Existing publish/subscribe architectures for wireless sensors networks only support stationary sensors interconnected with each other. they cannot handle mobile sensors or remote sensors that are sparsely deployed. In this paper, we propose a novel ubiquitous publish/subscribe system that supports data access from both mobile sensors and stationary sensors. Our system utilizes mobile phones as data mules to relay subscriptions and published data between broker and remote sensors. It provides content-based publish/subscribe services from sensors deployed anywhere without depending on any network infrastructure. We implement our publish/subscribe platform on real hardwares and test it in a hiking trail application. the application allows users to subscribe for sensing data from both stationary sensors and mobile sensors along hiking trails. Extensive experiments are conducted in an outdoor testbed to evaluate the system performances such data delay, number of data received and communication overhead.

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) deployed for mission-critical applications face the fundamental challenge of meeting stringent spatiotemporal performance requirements using nodes with limited sensing capacity. Although advance network planning and dense node deployment may initially achieve the required performance, they often fail to adapt to the unpredictability of physical reality. this paper explores efficient use of mobile sensors to address the limitations of static WSNs in target detection. We propose a data fusion model that enables static and mobile sensors to effectively collaborate in target detection. An optimal sensor movement scheduling algorithm is developed to minimize the total moving distance of sensors while achieving a set of spatiotemporal performance requirements including high detection probability, low system false alarm rate and bounded detection delay. the effectiveness of our approach is validated by extensive simulations based on real data traces collected by 23 sensor nodes.

Existing network reprogramming protocols target the efficient, reliable, multi-hop dissemination of application updates in sensor networks, but assume correct or fail-stop behavior from participating sensors. Compromised nodes can subvert such protocols to result in the propagation and remote installation of malicious code. Sluice aims for the progressive, resource-sensitive verification of updates in sensor networks to ensure that malicious updates are not disseminated or installed, while trusted updates continue to be efficiently disseminated. Our verification mechanism provides authenticity and integrity through a hash-chain construction that amortizes the cost of a single digital signature over an entire update. We integrate Sluice with an existing network reprogramming protocol and empirically evaluate its effectiveness both in a real sensor testbed and through simulation.

A new algebraic reconstruction techniques (ART) are developed for a neuro-fuzzy geotomography to accelerate the convergence of learning phase and to reduce the learning time or iteration times. the learning algorithm is derived from a constrained optimization problem. the Minkowski norm of the corrections of parameters is used as the objective function of the optimization problem. Some computer simulation results show that smooth distributions of a material parameter are obtained by using the Minkowski norm. Furthermore, the proposed method is applied to the experimental data collected at a dam site by cross borehole seismic probing.

Multichannel communication has been proposed as alternative to adaptive (single-channel) routing protocols for mitigating the impact of interference and link dynamics in wireless sensor networks. While several studies have advocated features of both techniques (not without running up against contradicting arguments) a comprehensive study that aligns these results is still lacking. this paper aims at filling this gap. We present an experimental test bed setup used to perform extensive measurements for both single-channel and multichannel communication. We first analyze single-channel and multichannel communication over a single-hop in terms of packet reception ratio, maximum burst loss, temporal correlation of losses, and loss correlations across channels. Results show that multichannel communication with channel hopping significantly reduces link burstiness and packet loss correlation. For multi-hop networks, multi-channel communication and adaptive routing show similar end-to-end reliability in dense topologies, while multichannel communication can outperform adaptive routing in sparse networks with bursty links.

Blockchain as an emergent technology is quickly gaining ground as a decentralised distributed trustless database in the form of a linked-list data structure. this paper discusses the non-deterministic nature of public blockchain consensus protocols and argues that the probabilistic validity of a new block does not provide adequate guarantees of accuracy and integrity which in the case of cryptocurrencies could result in quite substantial asset losses. the contribution this paper adds is to spark a new line of thinking in regards to the validity of data in blockchains.
