In the recent past man has created a large number of artificial automatic systems classified as discrete event dynamic systems (DEDS). the operation of such systems depend on a number of discrete events and the time of their occurrences. Any change in the parameters of the system may have different effects on the behaviour of the system. For better understanding and control of such systems it is necessary to have the sensitivity information for the various parameters of the system. In this paper the sensitivity analysis of the parameters of a computer communication and control system using the fibre distributed data interface (FDDI) media access control (MAC) scheme for factory automation is described. the important parameters of such a system are detailed in general and the mathematical dependencies of the parameters for the system under consideration are derived. the sensitivity equations for the performance measures like the latency ratio /spl alpha/, the resource utilisation p, the arrival rate /spl lambda/, the computer process response time (CPRT), and the critical bandwidth C/sub crit/ are obtained and discussed.

One of the many advantages of Social Simulation is that it helps to experience a social problem while avoiding unnecessary costs and possible dangers. A good example is the use of simulation in the urban growth of a city. Today there are applications where the simulators are applied with different tools and growth models. this article offers a methodology using distributed agencies, cellular automatons and dynamic systems, to shape social processes through time. Finally, a review of some advances in this methodology is presented.

Business Intelligence (BI) has gained a new lease of life through Cloud computing as its demand for unlimited hardware and platform resources expandability is fulfilled by the Cloud elasticity features. BI can be seamlessly deployed on the Cloud given that its multilayered model coincides with the Cloud models. It is considered by many Cloud service providers as one of the prominent applications services on public, outsourced private and outsourced community Clouds. However, in the shared domains of Cloud computing, BI is exposed to security and privacy threats by virtue of exploits, eavesdropping, distributed attacks, malware attacks, and such other known challenges on Cloud computing. Given the multi-layered model of BI and Cloud computing, its protection on Cloud computing needs to be ensured through multilayered controls. this paper proposed a multi-layered hierarchical inter-cloud connectivity model for sequential packet inspection of tenant sessions accessing BI as a service on cloud computing through an algorithm for ensuring multi-level session inspections, and ensuring maximum security controls at all the seven layers, and prevent an attack from occurring. the simulations present the effects of distributed attacks on the BI systems by attackers posing as genuine Cloud tenants. the results reflect how the attackers are blocked by the multilayered security and privacy controls deployed for protecting the BI servers and databases.

In this paper, we study the problem of multi-resource fairness in multi-user sensor networks with heterogeneous and time-varying resources. Particularly we focus on data gathering applications run on Wireless sensor Networks (WSNs) or Internet of things (IoT) in which users require to run a serious of sensing operations with various resource requirements. We consider both the resource demands of sensing tasks, and data forwarding tasks needed to establish multi-hop relay communications. By exploiting graph theory, queueing theory and the notion of dominant resource shares, we develop Symbiot, a light-weight, distributed algorithm that ensures multi-resource fairness between these users. With Symbiot, nodes can independently schedule its resources while maintaining network-level resource fairness through observing traffic congestion levels. Large-scale simulations based Contiki OS and Cooja network emulator show the effectiveness of Symbiot in adaptively utilizing available resources and reducing average completion times.

this paper proposes a new approach to automatically extract an accurate object from video streams. the new approach provides a useful tool for distributed object-based browsing and content-based searching systems, and consists of a skip-labeling algorithm for feature-based segmentation, an occlusion-killer algorithm for estimating accurately optical flow, and a shrink-merge tracking algorithm for tracking an object. the shrink-merge tracking algorithm is executed, based on the time-continuity of moving-objects, using morphological image processing, such as dilation and erosion. the dilation and erosion are repeatedly executed using the projection processing which the object area in a next frame is derived from the object area in a current frame. the shrink-merge tracking algorithm can also project the area of a rotating-object in a current frame on the rotating-object containing the newly appearing regions in the next frame. the newly automated object extraction method works satisfactory for the objects which are non-linearly moving within the video stream, and also works satisfactory in 450 frames.

Typical WSN (Wireless sensor Network) applications in precision agriculture include production process management, plant growth optimization, farmland monitoring and so on. Middleware, which can connect hardware, applications, and enterprise systems, is required to construct ubiquitous agricultural environment combining WSN technology with different agricultural applications, but there have been insufficient studies in the field of agricultural-oriented WSN middleware compared to other industries. this paper proposes a middleware to process data collected from agricultural environment by applying WSN technology, analyzes the data and standardizes different data forms, and provides intelligent diagnosis service and event service. One of the advantages of the proposed middleware is to build a model library which will guide the agriculture production process, such as irrigation control and disease prevention. In addition, a web-based remote login is provided to all users around the world to browse agricultural environmental parameters and to reference for intelligent decision. © 2013 IFIP international Federation for Information Processing.

Increasingly, the adoption of mobile sensors becomes imperative in the context of target tracking applications, especially for reliable data collection purpose. However, the design of a strategy that allows mobile sensors suitably to move in an autonomous, distributed and self-organized way is not evident to achieve by a deterministic polynomial algorithm. Solutions that are biologically inspired by the collective behaviour of individual social communities provide alternative tools and efficient algorithms that emerge from many interesting properties applicable to sensor technology. these solutions implement highly efficient systems that are structurally simple, powerful, highly distributed and fault-tolerant. Some biological societies, like colonies of the Escherichia coli bacteria, offer prospects to certain mobile sensors to acquire an artificial intelligence allowing them to move autonomously through the network. In this paper, we proposed a bio-inspired protocol named SMBFOA (Sink Mobility based on Bacterial Foraging Optimization Algorithm). the main idea of this protocol was inspired by the autonomous movement of the Escherichia coli bacterium. Based on the simulation results, we concluded that our proposed SMBFOA protocol increases the throughput data rate and prolongs the network lifetime duration for 30% and 5% respectively compared to Clustering Duty Cycle Mobility aware Protocol (CDCMP).

this paper presents Contory, a middleware specifically deployed to support provisioning of context information on mobile devices such as smart phones. Contory integrates multiple strategies for context provisioning, namely internal sensors-based, external infrastructure-based, and distributed provisioning in ad hoc networks. Applications can query Contory about context items of different types, using a declarative query language which features on-demand, periodic, and event-based context queries. Contory allows applications to utilize different provisioning mechanisms depending on resource availability and presence of external infrastructures. this paper illustrates our approach along with its design and implementation on smart phones.

In this paper, we propose a novel approach for data gathering in wireless sensor networks (WSN) based on distributed rateless codes. Rateless codes are an efficient, low-complexity solution for coded data transmission over erasure channels, which motivates their application in distributed network scenarios such as WSN. Recently proposed distributed rateless coding techniques for WSN are node-centric, i.e., the task of collecting sufficient number of different sensor data packets and performing rateless encoding is responsibility of sensor nodes. In the proposed packet- centric approach, this task is assigned to encoded data packets called rateless packets. While randomly moving through the network, rateless packets collect required number of uniformly sampled sensor data packets, finishing their paths in randomly selected network nodes. Using this approach, any degree distribution of rateless codes can be exactly obtained. the problem of uniform combining of sensor data into rateless packets, and uniform dispersion throughout the network is addressed. the efficiency of the proposed scheme and its comparison with the performance of centralized rateless codes are demonstrated by simulation results.

In multiobjective optimization problems, it is important to derive solutions with high accuracy, uniform distribution, and broadness. Here, we propose a two-phase search process to improve the accuracy and broadness of solutions. In the first phase, the accuracy of the solutions is improved, and a reference point specified by a decision maker is set and utilized for the search. In the second phase, the solutions are broadened using the distributed Cooperation Scheme. the numerical results indicated that the proposed search scheme was capable of deriving broader solutions than the conventional multiobjective evolutionary algorithm without deterioration of accuracy.
