this paper starts from the observation that mobile and edge devices are powerful enough to execute Machine Learning (ML) application components, which in turn creates opportunities to keep privacy-sensitive data close to its source. Composing and deploying a distributed ML application is far from trivial because the optimal configuration depends on the application's goals and execution context, both of which may change throughout its lifetime. Prior research on context-aware reconfigurations in ML based applications offer limited capabilities for dynamically migrating software components between mobile, edge and cloud devices. In this paper, we propose a context-aware middleware that enables automated optimizations of the application deployment in order to satisfy the application's functional goals while the execution context changes in terms of available computation, memory and network resources. We use finite state machines to model the reconfiguration of the application based on contextual triggers and facilitate system design through the abstraction of system states. We illustrate the benefits of our approach with an image recognition application with well-defined performance goals that is deployed in a three-tier mobile-edge-cloud architecture.

Approximate agreement has long been relegated to the sidelines compared to exact consensus, with its most notable application being clock synchronisation. Other proposed applications stemming from control theory target multi-agent consensus, namely for sensor stabilisation, coordination in robotics, and trust estimation. Several proposals for approximate agreement follow the Mean Subsequence Reduce approach, simply applying different functions at each phase. However, taking clock synchronisation as an example, applications do not fit neatly into the MSR model: Instead they require adapting the algorithms' internals. Our contribution is two-fold. First, we identify additional configuration points, establishing a more general template of MSR approximate agreement algorithms. We then show how this allows us to implement not only generic algorithms but also those tailored for specific purposes (clock synchronisation). Second, we propose a toolkit for making approximate agreement practical, providing classical implementations as well as allow these to be configured for specific purposes. We validate the implementation with classical algorithms and clock synchronisation.

Considering that a single sensor has low fault tolerance and low accuracy in recognizing and tracking the target, this paper has proposed a high-level, radar and camera information fusion algorithm based on ROS (Robot Operating System). Millimeter-wave radar and camera targets need to be filtered and time-synchronized before being fused. the Global Nearest Neighbor algorithm is used in the target matching process. We set the appropriate rules to fuse the targets of the radar and camera sequences. It is verified by experiments that more accurate information on the position of the preceding vehicle can be obtained through this fusion system. © 2022 ieee.

Haptic perception facilitates robots to interact with surrounding environments dexterously. Embedded tactile fingers behave robust and reliable, and is wildly used in robots. However, seldom research can be found on its perceptual mechanism in mechanics and the design guidance of its structure. In this paper, a numerical model is established to address the contact process between embedded-type tactile fingertips and a roughness surface via finite element analysis. Experimental and simulation results are compared during three contact processes: Drop-down, sliding and lifting-up. From the mechanical perspective, the strain and stress within the fingertip are explored, based on which several design suggestions are given on the spatial arrangement of sensing elements. In addition to explaining the perception mechanism in mechanical view, this paper also provides a reference for the general design of tactile fingertips.

the use of autonomous systems is burgeoning in the world today for many applications in many fields from scientific, industrial, to military. At the same time, advances in semiconductor technology have enabled ever smaller, complex and dedicated microprocessors. this work details a control system architecture that takes advantage of these advances for use in resource-constrained autonomous systems. the architecture consists of a real time hardware controller, a guidance and navigation computer, and an edge TPU for machine learning inferences. While the latter two processors are commercially available, a dedicated, modular real time controller is not. therefore we present an open source design for a real time controller that is intended to be adapted to many types of autonomous systems. We present three different vehicle platforms that implement this control system including a ground vehicle, a surface vessel, and a quadcopter. Finally, we present results using this control architecture on a few key topics of interest in autonomous systems. the first is a novel spatial estimation algorithm called partitioned ordinary kriging that is designed for resource-constrained systems and can be used for path finding during mapping missions. the second result pertains to a sensor calibration utilizing sensor data collected from the real time controller and performed on the navigation computer. Finally, we demonstrate using the edge TPU (tensor processing unit) for object detection using an onboard camera and an object detection algorithm using machine learning.

this paper reviews the application of distributed ledger technologies (DLT) in food traceability systems, noting the benefits and growing adoption of DLT despite limited details on implementation and architecture. the study addresses this gap by analyzing the hardware, software, and DLT platforms discussed in the scientific literature. Most projects are in early development, focusing on proof-of-concept stages, with Ethereum and Hyperledger as the dominant platforms. However, the rationale for these choices is often unclear. the findings suggest significant potential for DLT in food traceability, although the sector is still nascent and requires more rigorous methodological approaches to improve effectiveness and scalability.

Due to their outstanding capabilities and wide range of potential applications, Wireless sensor Networks have received more attention. Routing is very challenging task in wireless sensor networks, as packets are routed to the BS through a number of nodes. the lifetime of WSNs is extremely restricted. Wireless sensor network is a resource constrained network where reducing energy consumption is very crucial in order to enhance the network lifetime. It is important to share the network packet in an energy-efficient way. It also considers the residual power of battery to extend the life of the network. Energy conservation is very crucial for Wireless sensor Networks. In this paper, we have surveyed various existing energy efficient routing approaches with their merits and demerits. In this article, a modified, compact, broadband printed log periodic dipole antenna design is being proposed to detect the Partial Discharge generated due to insulation weakness in high voltage apparatus. the proposed antenna has an operating frequency band of 0.3 GHz - 3 GHz, which is very suitable for demanding purposes as per the IEC TS 62478. the proposed antenna is compact in size (1.1 lambda(0) x 0.8 lambda(0) x 0.005 lambda(0)) by considering the center frequency at 1.65 GHz and gain up to 12 dBi. the antenna has good impedance matching, showing the return loss (S 11 ) below -10 dB for the overall bandwidth. the antenna offers a directional 3D radiation pattern which helps the antenna to place directionally towards the PD source.

the use of sensors in smart vehicles brings benefits and vulnerabilities. Different kinds of sensors in smart vehicles are vulnerable to cyber-attack. Until now, the investigation of challenges and solutions for in-vehicle cybersecurity hasn't discussed various sensor objects and their correlation. In this study, we studied the cyber security problems of sensors in smart vehicles and how to overcome them. the research was designed as Systematic Literature Review (SLR) using the Kitchenham methodology with modification in the filtering phase using the artificial intelligence application, Elicit, to identify the problems, conclusions, and methodology description. Seventeen publications from 2016 until 2023 were gained from five databases. As a result, we find that the most discussed object related to cybersecurity sensors on smart vehicles are Electronic Control Units. Spoofing and jamming is still the most addressed threat, and machine learning is the most utilized solution to be implemented in detection systems. Advanced detection systems are incorporating updated attack models. We also suggest using updated attack models and machine learning algorithms to ensure the safety and security of smart vehicle technology. All identified sensor technology correlated using mind maps under the Intelligent Transport System theory. © 2023 ieee.

In this paper, we study gossip algorithms in communication models that describe the peer-to-peer networking functionality included in most standard smartphone operating systems. We begin by describing and analyzing a new synchronous gossip algorithm in this setting that features both a faster round complexity and simpler operation than the best-known existing solutions. We also prove a new lower bound on the rounds required to solve gossip that resolves a minor open question by establishing that existing synchronous solutions are within logarithmic factors of optimal. We then adapt our synchronous algorithm to produce a novel gossip strategy for an asynchronous model that directly captures the interface of a standard smartphone peer-to-peer networking library (enabling algorithms described in this model to be easily implemented on real phones). Using new analysis techniques, we prove that this asynchronous strategy efficiently solves gossip. this is the first known efficient asynchronous information dissemination result for the smartphone peer-to-peer setting. We argue that our new strategy can be used to implement effective information spreading subroutines in real world smartphone peer-to-peer network applications, and that the analytical tools we developed to analyze it can be leveraged to produce other broadly useful algorithmic strategies for this increasingly important setting.
