the operation of Internet of things (IoT) networks and Wireless sensor Networks (WSN) is often disrupted by a number of problems, such as path disconnections, network segmentations, node faults, security attacks, etc. A method that gains momentum in resolving some of those issues is the use of mobile nodes or nodes deployed by mobile robots. the use of mobile elements essentially increases the resources and the capacity of the network. In this work, we propose a scheme that utilizes mobile nodes for the creation of alternative paths from source to sink by also accounting the energy levels of the nodes as a contributing factor regarding the creation of alternative paths. We offer both a high level description of the concept and also a detailed algorithmic solution. the evaluation of the solution was performed in a case study of resolving congestion in the network. Results have shown that the proposed algorithm can significantly contribute to the alleviation of the problem of congestion in IoT and WSNs and can easily be used for other types of network problems.

Ships consist of a lot of large and complex equipment, and equipment failures can lead to serious accidents. Nowadays, a few ships have online operation monitoring, and the most widely used ship maintenance method is not able to solve the problem in time when there is an unexpected failure of ship equipment. therefore, this paper proposes a dynamic modeling approach of digital twins toward the ship operation and maintenance (O&M) process to solve the unexpected problems of ships. Firstly, a ship O&M ontology model is built by summarizing key equipment operating parameters of the ship and the ship maintenance methods. then, the operating parameters are modified dynamically in the O&M ontology by using the Jena API based on the real-time state parameters of the ship in the twin data model. Afterward, the operating status of the equipment and maintenance are reasoned by O&M SWRL rules and fed to the physical entity in time. Finally, in order to verify the feasibility of the approach, the digital twin O&M model of a ship is constructed by ontology modeling in the O&M process of a ship. the experimental results show that the approach can dynamically monitor the operation process of the ship and analyze the maintenance method in time when the main engine of the ship fails. © 2023 ieee.

Bridge Health Monitoring (BHM) is a crucial research domain in engineering, involving the analysis of infrastructure conditions like bridges using sensor data. Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) systems comprise distinct phases, with pivotal stages being feature extraction and pattern recognition. Signal processing techniques aid in feature extraction, while Machine Learning algorithms play a crucial role in pattern recognition, all geared towards accurately assessing bridge health. Applying Machine Learning techniques permits the automation of the SHM procedure and intelligent damage detection. this study introduces an innovative method utilizing Machine Learning technologies, leveraging data from Galfenol-based Magnetostrictive sensors. these sensors convert vibrations into electrical data, offering insights into bridge health. A Decision Tree classifier categorizes data with an 80:20 split for training and testing, achieving a 98.72% accuracy. the code also demonstrates its predictive capability with new experimental data. Furthermore, various classifiers, including the Support Vector Method (SVM) and Neural Network, are tested, revealing their comparable accuracy. this research provides a user-friendly avenue for SHM and assists researchers in selecting optimal classification methods. © 2023 ieee.

With the increase in the number of e-commerce applications on the internet, the demand and supply of commodities have increased. though a static pricing system can be used in today's evolving market, prices of a commodity ought to be dynamically updated to improve revenues. the main challenge is to design a system dealing with real-time price updating based on the analysis of the available and complex data. the fundamental challenge is to design a dynamic price management system that meets the demand of customers and the availability of a commodity to maximize revenues with minimum cost and time involvement. In this paper, a Dynamic price management system (DPMS) for a flexible and connected smart nation has been designed to control and monitor the pricing of a commodity from selling platforms like retail, wholesale, the company's website, and e-commerce. Enormous pricing management system models have been researched, but in this paper, our objective is to provide a flexible, versatile, and intellectual pricing management system that handles the pricing of a commodity through a single interface for all the selling platforms. Smart pricing is the dynamic adjustment of prices or repricing of a commodity based on the market demand for a product. this model simplifies the vendors'problem of controlling a homogenous commodity's price component on different selling platforms like retail, wholesale, and e-commerce for a fully connected smart nation. © 2023 ieee.

the paper describes the design, realization, and testing of a prototype of a wearable device based on the photoplethysmography (PPG) principle consisting of three optical sensors working on transmittance/reflectance principle with wireless connection for real-time data transfer to the control device. the measurement in normal laboratory conditions confirms that PPG signals sensed in parallel can have adequate quality for use in the arterial blood pressure estimation based on heart rate and heart pulse transmission parameters. Experiments in a weak magnetic field environment with an inherent radiofrequency and electromagnetic disturbance verify functionality of the developed PPG sensor. © 2023 Institute of Measurement Science, Slovak Academy o.

the primary contribution of this paper is designing and prototyping a real-time edge computing system, RhythmEdge, that is capable of detecting changes in blood volume from facial videos (Remote Photoplethysmography;rPPG), enabling cardiovascular health assessment instantly. the benefits of RhythmEdge include non-invasive measurement of cardiovascular activity, real-time system operation, inexpensive sensing components, and computing. RhythmEdge captures a short video of the skin using a camera and extracts rPPG features to estimate the Photoplethysmography (PPG) signal using a multi-task learning framework while offloading the edge computation. In addition, we intelligently apply a transfer learning approach to the multi-task learning framework to mitigate sensor heterogeneities to scale the RhythmEdge prototype to work with a range of commercially available sensing and computing devices. Besides, to further adapt the software stack for resource-constrained devices, we postulate novel pruning and quantization techniques (Quantization: FP32, FP16;Pruned-Quantized: FP32, FP16) that efficiently optimize the deep feature learning while minimizing the runtime, latency, memory, and power usage. We benchmark RhythmEdge prototype for three different cameras and edge computing platforms while evaluating it on three publicly available datasets and an in-house dataset collected under challenging environmental circumstances. Our analysis indicates that RhythmEdge performs on par with the existing contactless heart rate monitoring systems while utilizing only half of its available resources. Furthermore, we perform an ablation study with and without pruning and quantization to report the model size (87%) vs. inference time (70%) reduction. We attested the efficacy of RhythmEdge prototype with a maximum power of 8W and a memory usage of 290MB, with a minimal latency of 0.0625 seconds and a runtime of 0.64 seconds per 30 frames.

Wireless sensor Networks (WSNs) have been hugely advanced in recent years, driven by the growth of equipment types and numbers and the reduction of cost. Various services have been provided based on application requirements and network services. Among the energy-saving solutions in WSN environments, the Low Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy (LEACH) mechanism stands out. this hierarchical protocol makes cluster heads aggregate and switches data sent by the cluster entity nodes toward a fixed Sink node. In this study, we proposed Cost Balanced LEACH (CBLEACH), a novel set of routing mechanisms that introduce the mobility aspect to the Sink node (SN) and balances the decision of cluster head (CH) election by considering the distances between nodes and the residual energy of expected CH candidates. CB-LEACH allows nodes to be close to the SN to transmit data directly, ensuring non-collapsing energy and achieving the greatest efficiency in the WSN. the functionalities and features of the CB-LEACH routing mechanism were explored to provide valuable insights for researchers and practitioners in WSNs. We introduced a balance factor variable that merged the two impacting and time-dependent properties of nodes: distance and energy. the CH election in each cluster was based on a cost rule derived from a linear Eq. of the balance factor. We presented four different modulation schemes for the balance factor, each with its own rule, and analyzed their impact on the CB-LEACH mechanism. We examined the system's functionalities and compared the lifetime and transmitted number of frames in different scenarios involving the epoch number, the speed of SN, and various systems including Direct Sequence, basic LEACH, enhanced LEACH with mobile SN, and CB-LEACH. the findings in this study demonstrated that the modulated CB-LEACH routing mechanism outperformed other routing cases, offering superior features and capabilities to the WSNs. © 2023 ieee.

Nodes represent the core of wireless sensor networks, as being able to connect and exchange information. Despite their limited power and the issue of energy consumption that clearly affects their performance, it has become quite urgent to tackle this issue due to the ongoing need to deploy wireless sensor networks in many fields. To maintain the utmost benefit of nodes regardless their energy consumption problem, clustering has been suggested as the best available solution and this paper introduces a clustering-based routing algorithm to help nodes transmit data to the base station using k-means for selecting clusters. Here, two clusters are chosen, one for collecting data and the other for transmitting it and via a multi-hop approach, the data will be sent to the base station and, hence, the quality and the lifetime of the network will be improved. Energy and security should be considered when choosing the most suitable cost path to achieve the most efficient energy consumption method. the related existing authentication techniques are likely to face many challenges such as the lack of authorization, the limited resources, and the need for a lightweight authentication protocol. therefore, it is important to provide a security framework and protect the network from attacks with minimum power consumption. this paper proposes a secure and robust three-factor-based authentication protocol, called defense-WSN, which can ensure mutual authentication between nodes and prevent security threats. the simulation results show that the proposed approach can deliver higher performance and lower power consumption compared to other conventional solutions. © 2023 ieee.

this paper investigates the moving target localization problem in distributed multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar systems using bistatic range (BR) and bistatic range rate (BRR) measurements, which can be obtained via some local sensor signal processing methods. In the first stage, the cost function of the localization problem is re-formulated by augmenting the unknown vector, and then initial estimates of the target position and velocity are given. In the second stage, the estimation error terms of the first stage are estimated by the weighted least square (WLS) technique. To the end, the target position and velocity are refined by subtracting the estimation errors from the outputs of the first stage. Numerical simulation results corroborate the theoretical developments. © 2021 ieee.
