the KM3NeT Collaboration is constructing two water-Cherenkov neutrino detectors at the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea: ARCA, which is designed for neutrino astronomy in the TeV to PeV range, and ORCA, optimised for GeV neutrino detection. the ORCA detector will comprise 115 string-like vertical Detection Units arranged in a cylindrical array. Its main objectives are to determine the neutrino mass ordering and measuring atmospheric neutrino oscillations. During 2020 and 2021, an early configuration of the detector with six lines was in operation. A high-purity neutrino sample covering 433 kton-years of exposure was extracted using optimised reconstruction algorithms and machine learning classifiers. In this contribution, the measurement of the neutrino oscillation parameters sin2 θ23 = 0.51+−000607 and Δm312 = 2.14+−003625 · 10−3eV2, as well as the sensitivity to determine the neutrino mass ordering based on this data sample, will be presented. © Copyright owned by the author(s) under the terms of the Creative Commons.

Critical thinking is one of the essential skills of 21st century learning. therefore, students are required to have these skills to be applied in physics learning. the study aims to measure students critical thinking skills on Temperature and Heat. Participants in this study are 29 of 11th grade students (10 males and 19 females) in the city of Bandung. the instruments used are five essay questions with five different indicators. the results show that the average value obtained is 31 with less categories. the conclusion, students' critical thinking skills on Temperature and Heat are still less. thus, there is a need for development in the learning process to improve the critical thinking skills of 11th grade students on Temperature and Heat. © 2019 IOP Publishing Ltd.

the discovery of high-energy cosmic neutrinos has raised great interest in the field of neutrino astronomy. the KM3NeT/ARCA detector is currently under construction at the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea and is measuring high-energy neutrinos. the complete detector will instrument a cubic kilometre of seawater with photomultiplier tubes that detect the Cherenkov radiation from the products of neutrino interactions. the design is focused on discovering high-energy neutrino sources which requires an excellent angular resolution. this contribution covers the reconstruction algorithms deployed in the full KM3NeT/ARCA detector and their performances. the angular resolution reaches below 0.1◦ for tracks and below 1◦ for cascades and double cascades that originate from tau neutrinos. this paper presents a comparison of extracted watermark image quality and robustness between DCT and SVD based digital watermarking techniques. Here two transform domain DCT and SVD based watermarking algorithms are implemented. For better comparison purpose original host image and watermark image are kept same in both algorithms. Before extracting watermark, different image processing attacks and noise are inserted in watermarked image then DCT and SVD based watermark extraction are performed to check PSNR and robustness against those image processing attacks and noise. the paper explores the use of a GPU-Event-Mechanics (GEM) simulation to assess global ice loads acting on the offshore structure operating in pack ice condition. the GEM simulation uses an event mechanics concept implemented using massively parallel programming on a GPU enabled workstation. the GEM simulation allows one to compute complex simulation conditions at much faster than real time. the simulation domain includes large number of discrete ice floes as user defined ice field. An environmental parameter (i.e. current, wind) can be implemented to simulate more realistic field condition. A series of simulation cases at different ice coverage, ice thickness, etc., are modelled to analyze global ice loads. the resulting global ice load is evaluated qualitatively and compared to published field data as part of comparison purpose. Global ice loads (resultant mooring force), natural period and net offset on a moored offshore structure are evaluated in pack ice condition as an approximation of managed ice. Results of global ice load and response of offshore structure assessment represent a good agreement compared to existing field data. © 2019 by the international Society of Offshore and Polar Engineers (ISOPE).

Compressive Sensing (CS) is a new approach in signal processing that aims acquiring and compressing signal simultaneously. CS suggests that if a signal is sparse, the original signal can be reconstructed by exploiting a few random measurements using reconstruction algorithms. In this paper, we investigate the performance of Smoothed- l0 norm (SL0) algorithm to reconstruct an audio signal and compare its performance to the two most used algorithms in audio CS: l1-magic and Orthogonal Matching Pursuit (OMP). this study adopts the Modified discrete Cosine Transform (MDCT) for sparse representation and random Gaussian matrix for measurement matrix. these algorithms are evaluated using Signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and computational complexity for different number of measurements. Results show that SL0 algorithm performs better in both reconstruction quality and computational complexity.

As an important research area in complex networks, community detection problems (CDPs) have aroused widespread concern among researchers. Many heuristic optimization algorithms have been successfully utilized to solve CDPs. As a recently proposed heuristic optimization algorithm, the sine cosine algorithm has been successfully applied in many fields and achieved better performance compared with other algorithms. In this paper, a new discrete sine cosine algorithm (DSCA) is developed to solve community detection problems. DSCA are compared with FM, BGLL and GA on four real-world benchmark networks. Extensive experiments verify that our algorithm is effective and promising. © 2019, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Numerical or semianalytical solution of problems of structural mechanics of high dimensionality is computationally costly process in many cases. However, structural engineer does not normally face the task of obtaining a solution of the problem with high accuracy at all points of the considered domain occupied by the structure. As a rule, all subdomains that are potentially dangerous in terms of structural strength are well known in advance. Operational and variational formulations of boundary problems of structural mechanics with the use of method of extended domain are presented. After corresponding (finite element or finite difference) discretization and passage to governing equations considering problems are transformed to a multilevel space with the use of multilevel wavelet transform (discrete Haar basis is used). this study developed an approximate analytical model to design feeder bus transit (e.g. shuttle bus, minivan) services along a trunk line (e.g. metro rail and light rail) whose stations and line alignment are pre-determined. Specifically, an optimization model is developed to identify the density and frequency of feeder bus services that minimizes the total cost of the trunk-feeder system (sum of operating cost and user cost) subject to vehicle capacity constraints. the model is applied using the data from Purple Line Light Rail (LRT) system in Maryland, U.S.A. the results demonstrate that the developed model provides a useful tool to generate the optimal number of feeder bus lines and the best frequency of feeder service along the Purple Line corridor.

We present an improvement of the Bellman-Ford algorithm for the single-source shortest-path (SSSP) problem in directed graphs. Our algorithm exploits a potential-based heuristic for selecting the nodes to be scanned next. More specifically, for each node, we use as potential the difference between the current distance estimate and the distance estimate at the time the node was last scanned. A nice feature of our proposed heuristic is that it precisely yields Dijkstra’s algorithm when applied to graphs with no negative edges. Extensive experimentations have been conducted for comparing our algorithm on various families of weighted graphs against the most efficient practical algorithms for the SSSP problem with negative weights, such as Pallottino’s two-queue algorithm, D’Esopo-Pape deque algorithm, the threshold algorithm by Glover et al., and Goldberg-Radzik’s algorithm. Results are very promising and show that our algorithm is competitive with the above-mentioned algorithms, especially when graphs are not nearly acyclic.
