Brain Computer Interface (BCI) is an emerging research area which has been studied over thirty years extensively in the fields of clinical neurophysiology and neuroscience however it is now recognized as an interdisciplinary field involving neurobiology, psychology, engineering, mathematics and computer science. HCI community has begun to deal with BCI and substantial publications have been made in HCI related journals and conferences in recent years. In the scope of this research we conducted a systematic mapping study with the articles published in proceedings of HCI international conferences to reveal the trends, general aims of the articles, which signal recording modality were used, for what kind of practical applications were developed, which feature types and classification algorithms were used and what are the nationalities and institutes of contributing authors in the scope of HCI international conference. the aim was to give insight to the researchers who were studying or would like to study in the area of BCI. According to the results of the mapping, research type of BCI articles were mainly in the category of emerging applications not related to communication and control. General aim of the articles was determined as practical applications of BCI technologies first and then development or improvement of methodologies for signal processing issues. Visual P300 was the mostly applied BCI paradigms and SSVEP and motor imagery followed next. Most of the articles had reported EEG as a signal acquisition method, ICA or bandpass filter as a preprocessing or filtering method, ERP as a feature type and LDA and LR as a classification algorithm method. © Springer international Publishing Switzerland 2016.

Many robots are composed of interchangeable modular components, each of which can be independently controlled, and collectively can be disassembled and reassembled into new configurations. When assembling these modules into an open kinematic chain, there are some discrete choices dictated by the module geometry; for example, the order in which the modules are placed, the axis of rotation of each module with respect to the previous module, and/or the overall shape of the assembled robot. Although it might be straightforward for a human user to provide this information, there is also a practical benefit in the robot autonomously identifying these unknown, discrete forward kinematics. To date, a variety of techniques have been proposed to identify unknown kinematics; however, these methods cannot be directly applied during situations where we seek to identify the correct model amid a discrete set of options. In this paper, we introduce a method specifically for finding discrete robot kinematics, which relies on collision detection, and is inspired by the biological concepts of body schema and evolutionary algorithms. Under the proposed method, the robot maintains a population of possible models, stochastically identifies a motion which best distinguishes those models, and then performs that motion while checking for a collision. Models which correctly predicted whether a collision would occur produce candidate models for the next iteration. Using this algorithm during simulations with a Baxter robot, we were able to correctly determine the order of the links in 84% of trials while exploring around 0.01% of all possible models, and we were able to correctly determine the axes of rotation in 94% of trials while exploring

this paper compares the performance of two algorithms which have been proposed in the literature to estimate the synchrophasor under dynamic conditions. Both algorithms are implemented for the estimation of transmission line parameters. the first method is an adaptive mimic phasor estimator (AMPE) based on conventional sliding DFT technique to remove the decaying dc component in the signal and obtains the accurate magnitude and angle of the signal. the second method is least error square (LES) approach which calculates phasor from digitized samples of signal where each input is assumed to be composed of a decaying dc component and components of the fundamental and harmonic frequencies. Both the algorithms are also compared with the conventional DFT. Testing of the algorithms is performed in MATLAB/SIMULINK. the results obtained shows that conventional DFT method fails to estimate phasors accurately under dynamic conditions while other two algorithms work satisfactorily. However, AMPE performance is better than LES for line parameter estimation.

Traveling Salesman Problem (TSP) is one of the most classically studied problems in computational mathematics. It is essentially focused on optimization. In this paper, a hybrid algorithm of combining Brain Storm Optimization (BSO) with discrete Particle Swarm Optimization (DPSO) is presented. the hybrid algorithm borrows exchange operator from DPSO and employs inversion idea from chromosome structure. To evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm, it is applied to data sets from the TSPLIB standard database in comparison with the other algorithms. Experimental results show that the proposed hybrid algorithm can deal with the TSP problems well, and the developed mutation process and local search technique are effective.

Acquisition is the important frontend operation of a GPS receiver signal processing. It estimates Doppler change in carrier frequency and delay in PRN code of the GPS signal and gives for tracking of signal. Tracking refines the Doppler shift and delay in code phase and removes the carrier, PRN code from the received GPS signal and acquires the navigational data. the performance of tracking directly depends on performance of acquisition algorithm. Performance of acquisition is compromise between computational time and Doppler frequency resolution. So this paper presents fast acquisition of Doppler shift and code phase from GPS Intermediate Frequency (IF) signal using radix4 and radix2 FFT algorithms. Performance of these acquisition algorithms is compared with time domain correlation and also with signal acquisition using radix2 FFT on decimated with zero padded data. Computational time and correlation magnitude are taken as metrics to evaluate the performance of the algorithms.

the theme work presented in this paper is adetailed analysis of various transforms like discrete Cosinetransform, Singular Value Decomposition, discrete Hadamardtransform, Slant transform, discrete Haar transform whichare applied to a set of considered biomedical images to achieveimage compression. the operations on images are performedin transform domain where the DC coefficients are stored andtruncation operation is performed by setting correspondingthreshold to achieve desired PSNR to maintain the quality ofreconstruction. In this paper, the biomedical images aresubjected to all compression schemes mentioned by settingPSNR to 25dB and 30dB. the reconstruction qualities for boththe results (25dB and 30dB) are tabulated and detailed analysisis done based on the quality of reconstruction which throwslight on optimal transform. the metrics used for analysis areMean Square Error, Peak Signal to Noise ratio, StructuralSimilarity Index, Compression ratio, Energy Compaction and Auto-Correlation.

In this paper a new algorithm for indoor localization, namely Fuzzy discrete Multilateration (FDM), is proposed. As the name suggests, it elaborates data from any number of transmitters (anchor nodes), and returns the estimated position of an unknown receiver. Furthermore, two cascade fuzzy inference systems are employed to evaluate the reliability of the data gathered from each beacon. the algorithm has been tested in different real world environments, where the anchor nodes are smart objects and the unknown node is any smart object held by the user to be localized. the performances of our algorithm has been compared with those of three well known localization algorithms (with a beacon density ranging from 0.03 to 0.1 beacon/m 2 ) and results are shown.

In this paper an accurate approach is proposed for classifying and locating faults in series compensated (SC) network utilizing discrete wavelet transform (DWT) and artificial neural network (ANN). In the first phase of the proposed approach, fault current samples acquired from simulation were decomposed using Db5 mother wavelet. Faults signatures are captured in terms of standard deviation of detail coefficients of 1 st and 5 th level, norm entropy value of the wavelet coefficients and minimum and maximum value of the wavelet coefficients. In final phase, captured features are applied as input to classifier and distance estimator models for training and testing. For investigating the efficacy and accuracy of the proposed two-stage approach of classifying and locating faults in SC network, numerous test simulation have been carried out on a 400 KV, 300 km SC network in MATLAB environment. the results obtained from test cases, reveals that the proposed approach can reliably classify and locate the faults with high accuracy.
