Considering the manufacturability during the design phase, this paper proposes a level set-based method for the optimal design of extrudable structures under multiple loading cases. Firstly, the level set model is used to describe the moving structural boundary as the embedded zero level set. To avoid the mathematically solving of the difficult Hamilton-Jacobi equation, the compactly supported radial basis function (CSRBF) as well as the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) are introduced to transform the standard level set method into a parametric one, to which several well-established gradient-based algorithms can be applied. Besides, the linear system for the interpolation is extremely sparse in our study, which will guarantee the computational efficiency. Secondly, the multi-objective optimization considering different loading cases is formulated by a normalized exponential weighted criterion (NEWC) method. the NEWC is used to depict the entire Pareto set on both convex and non-convex Pareto frontier. thirdly, a cross section projection strategy is utilized to satisfy the extrusion constraint and reduce the computational cost. Several numerical examples in 3D are provided to show the efficiency of the proposed method. the results verify this method can achieve a manufacturable design using lower computer effort.

the aim of the study is twofold: firstly to compare the possibilities of using GPGPU (General-Purpose Computing on Graphics Processing Units) in continuous and discrete crowd dynamics simulation, secondly to draw conclusions on the applicability of GPUs in engines of professional crowd simulations. For this purpose the authors have implemented two models of pedestrian dynamics: continuous - Social Forces model and discrete, Cellular Automata based - Social Distances model. the presented simulations refer to outdoor, large area pedestrian movement.

Script identification from handwritten document images is an open document analysis problem especially for multilingual environment like India. To design the Optical Character Recognition (OCR) system for multi-script document pages, it is essential to recognize different scripts prior to employing an OCR engine of a particular script. the present work describes a texture based approach to word-level script identification from five handwritten scripts namely, Malayalam, Oriya, Tamil, Telugu and Roman. A 92-element feature vector has been designed in which 80 features consists of selected coefficients of discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) and the remaining 12 features have been taken from the Moment invariants. Experimentations are conducted on a database consisting of 1000 word images of each script which are evaluated using multiple classifiers. the Multi Layer Perceptron (MLP) classifier is found to be a best choice for the said purpose which is then applied comprehensively using different cross-validation folds and different epoch sizes. the average success rate for the present technique of word-level handwritten script identification is found to be 93.56% for 5-fold cross validation with epoch size 1000, which is quite encouraging.

the paper deals withthe discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) analysis of quasi-stationary regimes (with small variations of magnitude and harmonic contents) in three-phase systems. the analyzed data, acquired on stand, correspond to a driving system using chopper and DC motor. Unfiltered currents are included in the first data set, unlike those from the second set. the harmonic orders to be filtered (5,7,11,13 etc.) were determined using a FFT analysis. 10 levels decompositions using DWT were made, using Daubechy filters of length 8, implemented by 2 functions. "dwm" assumes that the analyzed signal is periodic, whilst "dwi" performs interpolations to estimate the first 6 values of the decomposed signal beyond its right edge. During analysis, FFT is applied over one period P, whilst DWT operates over 6 consecutive periods starting with P. the analysis concerns instantaneous and global power quality related quantities and provides possible explanations for the cases when differences appear between the results yielded by the various analyzed methods.
