Recent technological advances in wireless body sensor networks (WBSN) have made it possible for the development of innovative medical applications to improve health care and the quality of life. Electroencephalography (EEG)-based applications lie at the heart of this promising technologies. However, excessive power consumption may render some of these applications inapplicable. Hence, intelligent energy efficient methods are needed to improve such applications. In this work, such improved efficiency can be obtained by utilizing smart compression techniques, which reduce airtime over energy-hungry wireless channels; In particular, discrete wavelet transform (DWT) and compressive sensing (CS) are used for EEG signals acquisition and compression. To achieve low-complexity energy-efficient system, the proposed technique makes use of the receiver feedback signals in order to switch between both algorithms based on the application needs. Experimental study has shown that the proposed algorithm effectively reconfigures the utilized compression algorithm parameters based on a channel feed back signal.

In this study, the quadratic Renyi entropy is applied for seizure detection from human electroencephalography (EEG) signals. Quadratic Renyi entropy was combined with two different methods;the empirical mode decomposition (EMD) and discrete wavelet transform (DWT). the use of these two methods is justified since EEGs are non-linear and non-stationary signals. First, the EEG signal is decomposed into sub-signals using the EMD method or the DWT. then, the quadratic Renyi entropy is used as an input feature. the k-nearest neighbor (k-NN) classifier algorithm extracted the features with 99.5%-100% accuracy.

Watermarking is a basic secure communication method. It is used for embedding a recognizable pattern in media in such a manner that modification of the media also modifies the pattern, thus making it easy to detect the modification. this technique and its variants have many practical applications pertaining to secure communications, media verification, etc. Digital image watermarking is a technique for embedding data within an image signal in such a way that the original and the modified image signals are essentially identical. the embedded data can be used for various purposes such as secure communication in military applications, owner identification and verification, content authentication, etc. In this study a watermark image signal is hidden in a message image signal by using a discrete cosine transform (DCT) domain approach. the tests of fidelity between the original and the watermarked signal and robustness applied to the watermarked signal. the results with both the Human Visiual System (HVS) and numeric/graphic aspects are presented. the results show that an embedded watermark is not easily detectable using either the HVS or other techniques. Additionally, it can be detected successfully in the simulation domain, but it may be susceptible to some noise and channel limitations in the real world.

In the electronic commerce and e-government era, digital signature has become more and more important recently. Digital signature algorithms can be categorized based on one of security suppositions, discrete logarithm and factorization hard-problems, which are currently believed to be unsolvable in a reasonable time-period. In other words, if the discrete logarithm or factorization problem can be broken, the corresponding digital signature scheme will become insecure any more. therefore, to enhance the system security, the adoption of a digital signature algorithm based on both assumptions is a possible choice. In this paper, by referring to Laih and Kuo's architecture [1], we propose a new digital signature algorithm based on both discrete logarithm and factorization problems. We also propose another digital signature scheme. After analyses, the proposed scheme used less key length can achieve the similar security purposes. We also prove that the security of the proposed scheme is based on both discrete logarithm and factoring problems.

In this paper, we consider a discrete design problem of two-dimensional truss structures. We are given a set of potential nodes and a set of potential bars connecting these nodes, i.e., a ground structure. then we only treat solutions which are combinations of accepted nodes and accepted bars in the ground structure. We present a linear inequality system with integrality constraints to extract a subgraph from the ground structure, which tries to model the subgraph on a simple truss. the linear inequality system delivers a MIP (Mixed Integer Programming) formulation of the discrete design problem. We also conduct numerical experiments to examine the solutions obtained by solving the MIP problem, and report some valid examples. the test problem instances are exactly solved by GLPK (GNU Linear Programming KIT), which is one of well-known open source softwares solving MIP and LP (Linear Programming) problems.

In engineering, self-adaptive product model provides a medium which is in the possession of the capability to accommodate any knowledge for autonomous actions to modify product representations in case of any changed circumstance. In current advanced product models, knowledge defines relationships among feature parameters in order to automatic modification of the model for new situations and events. In this way rules, formulas, algorithms, and other knowledge features give self-adaptive characteristic to product model for design parameter driven self modification and reconfiguration. Generally, new instances are created from a generic model. Changes are propagated across the product model by contextual connections of feature parameters. Development of self adaptive product model needs new methods for decision assistance during lifecycle of the product. this paper introduces a research which is aimed to contribute to this effort by extension of the direct feature parameter control knowledge towards higher level representations. the proposed modeling applies higher level knowledge for the definition of relationship between product objectives and feature parameters. Objective covers product function which is supported by specification and knowledge driven method in order to control product feature generation. Any objective change initiates appropriate changes of the self adaptive product model. In order to achieve this, contextual chain is established between objective and the related affected feature parameters in the product model. the proposed method is a contribution to efforts to achieve aimed physical product behaviors using more sophisticated virtual prototype of product.

this paper presents a new method which extends the Standard Hough Transform for the recognition of naive or standard line in a noisy picture. the proposed idea conserves the power of the Standard Hough Transform particularly a limited size of the parameter space and the recognition of vertical lines. the dual of a segment, and the dual of a pixel have been proposed to lead to a new definition of the preimage. Many alternatives of approximation could be established for the sinusoid curves of the dual of a pixel to get new algorithms of line recognition.

In terms of weighted scale-free networks' properties, this paper proposes edges immunization based on discrete particle swarm optimization algorithm. We translate the virus immunization problem to a multi-objective optimization problem in this paper. After a set of edges are immunized, the network is divided into sub-networks whose nodes strength and average path length are as small as possible. Experiment results show that the proposed algorithm has a higher spread threshold and better performance than the traditional immunization strategies. © 2012 IEEE.

In speech processing, one of the first steps is to reduce the noise that the signal contains, for this purpose there are several algorithms. Actually, the most widely used noise reduction methods are based on the discrete wavelet transform (DWT). the main advantages of these methods are that they work with non-stationary signals and have the ability to perform a multi-resolution analysis. In counterpart, its main disadvantage is that the amount of required data memory difficult their implementation in a low cost digital signal processor (DSP). the main goal of this work is to implement a noise reduction algorithm based on the DWT in a dsPIC of Microchip. Experimental measurements are carried out to analyze the performance of the system. © 2012 IEEE.

Recent papers have proposed to design scheduling algorithms entirely as discrete-time controllers, i.e., to refrain from preserving the already installed scheduler, and replace it completely. At the cost of some system re-design impact, this new approach has been proved to yield significant advantages in terms of code size and simplicity, and above all to open the way to a system-theoretical analysis, thereby permitting to prove relevant properties in a rigorous manner. this manuscript presents some refinements and improvements of an already conceived control structure, allowing for more flexible task management and better comprehension on the part of the system administrator. A standard benchmark is used to support the necessary performance analysis.
