this paper proposes a discrete-time variable structure reaching law with attenuating quasi-sliding mode band, and gives the variable condition of quasi-sliding mode band. the proposed reaching law is applied to design a load-frequency controller for a power system. the simulation results show that the controller can not only eliminate system chattering, but also improve dynamic performance of the system effectively and make the system possess a strong robustness property.

this paper serves as a support for the plenary address given by the second author during the conference. In this paper we present an approach to on-line diagnosis of discrete event systems based on labeled Petri nets, that are a particular class of Petri nets where some events are undistinguishable, i.e., events that produce an output signal that is observable, but that is common to other events. Our approach is based on the notion of basis markings and justifications and it can be applied both to bounded and unbounded Petri nets whose unobservable subnet is acyclic. Moreover it is shown that, in the case of bounded Petri nets, the most burdensome part of the procedure may be moved off-line, computing a particular graph that we call Basis Reachability Graph. Finally we present a diagnosis MATLAB toolbox with some examples of application.

In this paper we propose a software framework where the main aim is to make easier the implementation of supervisory control. the main idea is that functionalities must be offered with no effects on the robustness of the system. We prove that our methodology has a solid base, so the approach can be applied to any kind of industrial process unit. In this way, a real application of a developed framework is presented. the implementation is done over well-known devices (such as PLC with a conveyor belt) so the technical feasibility of the procedure is guaranteed.

In this paper we present a method for a robust watermarking insertion in a video frame. the proposed method works on the uncompressed video based on the spread spectrum communication. the researchers appliedthe technique in the discrete wavelet transform domain (DWT). the results showed that the watermark has high perceptual invisibility and robust against JPEG compression, geometric distortions such as Downscaling, Cropping, and Rotation, as well as noising. the watermark was successfully extracted from the video after various attacks.

During the last years, the power quality (PQ) issues have been a subject of major concern. the constraints that must be fulfilled by the voltage wave supplied by utility companies have become more and more exigent. For this reason, the PQ measurement equipment requires new and computational efficient algorithms. this paper presents a discrete Wavelet Transforms (DWT) based triggering algorithms for PQ measurement instruments. Some typical PQ disturbances (sags, spikes or harmonics) have been considered to define figures of merit that can detect the presence of such disturbances and therefore are suitable to trigger the data recording of the PQ analyzer. All these figures of merit are obtained from the DWT decomposition. the final validations of the triggering algorithms have been done with real measurements.

Watermarking techniques are proposed as a solution to copyright protection of digital media files. Watermarking algorithms are mainly concentrated on spatial or spectral domains. In this work, a robust and high capacity watermarking method that is based on spatio-frequency (SF) representations is presented. We use the discrete Evolutionary Transform (DET) to represent an image in the SF domain. A watermark is embedded onto selected coefficients in the joint SF domain. Hence by combining the advantages of spatial and spectral domain watermarking methods, a robust, invisible, secure and high capacity watermarking method is presented. Simulations results yield that the proposed algorithm is robust to many signal processing attacks and outperforms several previous watermarking techniques.
