this paper suggests that the analytic techniques used in space syntax might play a role in the support of the design of certain types of games as they do of urban and building design. After briefly introducing the audience to the mathematics of the graph theoretic analytic techniques under discussion, the paper proceeds to present an analysis of one particular game map, Grand theft Auto - San Andreas. In particular, the analysis is used to investigate the 'reward' structure of the game. the paper concludes that there is sufficient evidence to support the use of such techniques in the analysis of games: first, the syntactic structure of the game matches the intuitive layout of the virtual urban-structure, second, the placement of the game's 'rewards' are not placed randomly (an analysis of the reward-placement suggests possible superior placement-strategies based on the graph analyses) and finally, the intelligibility of the three cities in San Andreas appears to affect navigational ability, a finding which is substantiated up by a user-preference rating-poll for the cities.

Position based routing methods can construct effective routes;however, in some topologies with obstacles, such algorithms may end in failure. In order to avoid stationaty obstacles, this paper presents a Voronoi-trajectory based hybrid routing (VTBR) algorithm that combines both proactive and reactive routing, trategies to provide high routing performance. If the destination node is within the source node's two-hop range, then the source will consult the routing table to determine the route. When the destinction is beyond that range, the source establishes a trajectory which is the set of points of the shortest obstacle-avoiding path. the intermediate nodes take the forwarding decision based on the relationship to the trajectory. Eventually, an example and simulation experiments are conducted to validate and evaluate the performance of VTBR. Our simulation results show that the proposed algorithm makes it possible to successfully construct the routes.

Math. 139(1-3) (2004) 171-195.], we proposed a new methodology to build thinning algorithms based on the deletion of P-simple points. this methodology may permit to conceive a thinning algorithm A′ from an existent thinning algorithm A, such that A′ deletes at least all the points removed by A, while preserving the same end points (in particular, we have already proposed a 12-subiteration thinning algorithm C. Traditionally, the teaching of mathematical logic has treated the subject as an object of study without considering its practical utility for improving effective reasoning and writing of mathematical proofs. the Dijkstra/Scholten equational calculus answers these concerns. Its application has given rise to a style of proving called 'the calculational approach'. Courses on discrete mathematics and algorithm's design have been taught in Colombian higher education institutions with success for more than 3 years. Recently, we have finished the first phase of a software tool for proof processing using this calculus. the goal pursued for this utility is the support of the learning process in these courses as well as to eventually assist in the program design and derivation process. We present instances of the accomplishments of this teaching methodology in terms of elegant proof style; and evidence of the results on teaching quality.

To meet the real-time demand of ultra-high speed, long size FFT in some specific communication or signal processing systems, a real-time FFT processor is presented in this paper, which can fulfill real-time demand of 512 points complex FFT at 1GHz sample rate. And with our strategy, longer size FFT can be implemented only adding some stage and enlarge the control counter. By paralleling data processing, we solve the problems coming with high clock frequency, such as power consumption and design complexity.

this paper investigates the impact of die attach process, including a tilted die, on the power cycling and thermal cycling performance for a discrete style TO220 package. A non-linear material model for die attach solder material is introduced, and an advanced finite element methodology is developed to target the coupled thermal-mechanical problem. For power cycling, a transient thermal analysis is presented, that will show the thermal propagation as the power turned on and off, and the resulting temperature gradients. then the authors used the cyclic transient temperature loads to apply to the model for the non-linear cycle stress analysis. For thermal cycling, the cycle temperature is directly applied to the model. the parameterized models for different die size and thickness' are simulated and analyzed. Finally discussion and conclusion regarding this study are presented.

the performance requirements for numerical integration algorithms in the real-time simulation of dynamic systems are discussed. the suitability of a number of integration methods is analyzed, including Euler, Adams-Bashforth predictor, real-time Adams-Moulton predictor-corrector, Runge-Kutta, and power-series integration. In each case the compatibility with real-time inputs, the numerical stability robustness, the dynamic accuracy, and the performance when simulating state equations involving discontinuous nonlinearities is described. In particular, methods for improving the accuracy of intermediate data-point outputs when using second and third-order real-time Runge-Kutta integration are presented. Also discussed are methods for adapting power-series integration to real-time simulations for which external inputs and state-variable derivatives are not available in analytic form. Finally, methods for on-line estimation of dynamic errors associated with numerical integration in real-time simulations are presented.

Fully discrete spectral methods for boundary integral equations on slender spheroids

We develop fully discrete spectral boundary integral algorithms to solve interior and exterior potential boundary value problems on three-dimensional slender spheroids. Our approach is based on identifying and using analytical solutions of associated (generalised) eigenvalue problems of boundary integral operators. We generalise approximation theory results on the sphere using spheroidally appropriate eigenfunctions and solve an open problem of stability of spectral methods for first kind boundary integral equations on spheroids. Integrating watersheds and critical point analysis for object detection in discrete 2D images

this paper presents an improved method for the detection of "significant" low-level objects in medical images. the method overcomes topological problems where multiple redundant saddle points are detected in digital images. Information derived from watershed regions is used to select and refine saddle points in the discrete domain and to construct the watersheds and watercourses (ridges and valleys). We also demonstrate an improved method of pruning the tessellation by which to define low level objects in zero order images. the algorithm was applied on a set of medical images with promising results. Evaluation was based on theoretical analysis and human observer experiments. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
