In this work we present a novel strategy for the simultaneous design and training of multilayer discrete-time cellular neural networks. this methodology is applied to the detection of surface-laid antipersonnel mines in infrared imaging. the procedure is based on the application of genetic algorithms for both network design and learning task.
In this paper, we introduce a new form of consistency in general constraint satisfaction problems (CSPs), called w-pairwise-consistency which can be applied to both binary and non-binary constraints. Enforcing w-pairw...

It is an important step in the study of partial discharges within power equipment to extract the partial discharge (PD) pulses from the noise. the wavelet analysis shows its strong power in extracting tiny signals and eliminating noise, and a lot of de-noising algorithms using wavelets have been developed. Based on the comparison among different wavelet de-noising algorithms, a new method-wavelet shrinkage is used to extract PD pulses from the signal polluted by more than one type of noise. Withthe numerical simulation, different influencing factors, such as the class of wavelets, the scales of wavelet decomposition and the type of threshold are analyzed in detail to obtain the best results. the simulation results show that wavelet shrinkage is valid for extracting PD pulses from strong noise.

this paper presents application of wavelet based de-noising to partial discharge (PD) phase resolved images. Simulations are discussed in first part while in the second one results obtained during on-line measurements on a 6 kV motor. the basic principles of wavelet de-noising analysis, as well as examples of hard- and soft de-noising thresholding are reported. For the purposes of decomposition, the Deabuchies wavelet and wavelet packets at different levels were applied. the efficiency of the enhancement was measured by using a mean square signal-to-noise ratio and standard deviation to mean ratio.

the main difference between a wavelet-transform (WT) and a Fourier transform is a more informative representation of time-, frequency-, scale- and time-properties of an image. the capacity of a WT of image analysis performing with equal scales is often compared with a mathematical microscope. the WT can successfully be applied to the problem of solving image processing although it is still insufficiently widely known for this purpose.
this paper considers the design and application of wavelet tight frames based on iterated oversampled filter banks. the greater design freedom available makes possible the construction of wavelets with a high degree o...

A class of discrete-continuous scheduling problems is considered when each nonpreemptable, independent job simultaneously requires for its processing a machine from a set of m identical, parallel machines and an amount, arbitrary within interval [0,1], of a continuously divisible, renewable resource available in amount 1. Job processing rates are described by power functions of the resource amount allotted at a time. Some properties of optimal schedules are proved which allow to find such schedules analytically in some cases and to construct efficient heuristics in the general case. Results of a computational experiment are described. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

the DCT (discrete Cosine Transform) based coding process of full color images is standardized by the JPEG (Joint Photographic Expert Group). the JPEG method is applied widely, for example a color facsimile. the quantization table in the JPEG coding influences image quality. However, detailed research is not accomplished sufficiently about a quantization table. therefore, we study the relations between quantization table and image quality. We examine first the influence to image quality given by quantization table. Quantization table is grouped into four bands by frequency. When each value of bands is changed, the merit and demerit of color image are examined. At the present time, we analyze the deterioration component of a color image. We study the relationship between the quantization table and the restoration image. Color image is composed of continuous-tone level and we evaluate the deterioration component visually. We also analyze it numerically An analysis method using the 2-D FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) can catch a change of a color image data by a quantization table change. On the basis of these results, we propose a quantization table using Fibonacci numbers. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
