this research studies the viability of small samples of basic student demographical information as training data for machine learning models to perform multiclass classification of the specializations/majors of students enrolled in the Master of applied computing course at Taylor’s University. If successful, this approach can be used by educational institutions with sparse student data to recommend university majors/specializations. this research uses SMOTE-NC to augment the training dataset from 25 rows to 100 rows and trained three machine learning models on the augmented dataset—logistic regression, random forest, and support vector machine. the support vector machine classifier performed the best in terms of accuracy at 86%, but all three classifiers showed highly inconsistent performance when predicting different specializations. Further research is required to understand this outcome, but potential causes include weak correlations between the input features and the target feature and small sample size. © the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

As the demand for emotional support continues to grow, strategy-driven generation methods have become widely adopted to enhance the performance of emotional support conversation systems. However, relying solely on strategy names is insufficient to capture the underlying logic of emotional support responses. this paper introduces a Mental State-Strategy Reasoning framework designed to help supporters accurately understand the mental states of help-seekers, leading to the selection of appropriate strategies and the clear identification of each strategy's goals. the framework aims to improve the system's capability in emotional support dialogues. To validate the effectiveness of the Mental State-Strategy Reasoning framework, we applied it to the ESConv dataset, creating an expanded dataset that incorporates this framework. A large language model was trained on the extended dataset, and comparative experiments were conducted in both in-domain and out-of-domain settings. the results demonstrated significant improvements over existing strategy-based models across several metrics, such as BLEU and R-L, indicating that integrating Mental State-Strategy Reasoning can effectively enhance emotional support systems and improve the model's generalization performance. © 2024 IEEE.

Text-To-Speech Synthesis (TTS) is an effective research area which produces synthetic speech from underlying text. To mimic genuine speech, the detected syllables are delivered with the appropriate duration and prosodic traits. this proposed system's goal is to synthesize human parity with natural sound for the input domain text in English language. the primary output must be a synthetic natural human sounded audio signal. Artificial Intelligence algorithms and various exploratory techniques are leveraged to process text and synthesis human speech in real-time. the effectiveness of synthetic speech has substantially increased by using neural network-based end-to-end TTS, it makes the speech sound natural and more human sounding. Existing state of art TTS techniques are explored, various pretrained models are trained and the quality of synthetic voice is assessed. Open-source avionics related textual corpus is used to train and assess the system. All the models are applied to a variety of audio generation tasks. Spectrograms of generated audios were compared to that of human generated audio spectrograms to assess how system generated spectrograms could be developed further to improve the quality of the synthetic voice. © 2023 IEEE.

Data clustering is a technique related to technology that can be used and utilized in vast areas of computer science and other applications. In this work, the technique access and used for clustering is improved-hybrid clustering in cloud computing with the application of GA in the algorithm. the process is started by uploading the text documents on the cloud and the GA algorithm of improved-hybrid similarity is applied and results are considered for analysis. the research is a step towards innovation and two parameters for resource optimization are taken into consideration viz., memory consume and CPU utilization. the results obtained for memory utilization and CPU utilization are scalable and optimal in the carried-out study. © 2023 IEEE.

Aiming at the current problems of small working space and the high cost of erection of parallel structure FDM-3D printer, a 3-PRRR parallel mechanism with a common line of branch chain moving sub is proposed and planned to be used in 3D printing equipment. First, the degrees of freedom of the 3-PRRR parallel mechanism is analyzed based on the spiral theory, and the positive and negative solutions of the position of the mechanism are established by the vector method;on this basis, the working space of the mechanism is analyzed using the Monte Carlo method;finally, the mechanism is specifically applied to the FDM- 3D printing device. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Krylov subspace algorithms are important methods for solving linear systems. In order to efficiently solve large-scale linear systems, parallelism techniques are often applied. However, parallelism often enlarge the non-Associativity of floating-point operations, which can lead to non-reproducibility of the computations. this paper compares the performance of the parallel preconditioned BiCGSTAB algorithm implemented with two different libraries (ExBLAS and ReproBLAS) that can ensure the reproducibility of computations. To address the effect of the compiler, we explicitly utilize the FMA instructions. Finally, numerical experiments show that based on two BLAS implementations, the BiCGSTAB algorithms are reproducible. By contrast, the BiCGSTAB algorithm based on ExBLAS is more accurate but more time-consuming than the one based on ReproBLAS. © 2023 ACM.

the current standard practice for building fire safety relies heavily on regular lighting, emergency lighting, and smoke sensors. the management and control centers for these systems are typically separate and independent, resulting in a bulky and expensive local control system that is difficult to use and manage. Additionally, the traditional fixed instructions in fire protection systems do not allow for adaptive planning of optimal escape routes based on the location of the fire, leading to delays in evacuation and ultimately causing significant casualties. this paper presents the design of a smart fire warning and evacuation system based on edge computing utilizing LED dynamic indication devices. the system integrates LED dot-matrix technology to create a smart indicator and emergency light with dynamic adaptive indication capabilities. Additionally, it includes temperature, humidity, and smoke sensors to monitor the building's environmental conditions. through Mesh wireless networking, time-series sensing data is aggregated to the edge gateway, where a miniature machine learning model trained by the Edge Impluse (EI) platform performs edge computing for predicting and reasoning about fire situations. the data is then uploaded to a cloud server and forwarded to mobile users via Cat.1 communication protocol for real-time monitoring. the system also incorporates an improved ant colony algorithm for automatic execution in the cloud and allows manual commands from mobile terminals to control adaptive and dynamic indication of indicator lights and emergency lights, guiding building personnel to the safest evacuation path. System testing demonstrates a high accuracy rate of 95% for fire prediction and inference, with an average inference time of less than 1 ms. this system provides a novel approach to adaptive building fire prediction and evacuation, enhancing safety measures for orderly and secure evacuations. © 2024 IEEE.

Function-as-a-Service (FaaS) is an attractive cloud computing model that simplifies application development and deployment. However, current serverless compute platforms do not consider data placement when scheduling functions. With the growing demand for edge-cloud continuum, multi-cloud, and multi-serverless applications, this flaw means serverless technologies are still ill-suited to latency-sensitive operations like media streaming. this work proposes a solution by presenting a tool called FaDO: FaaS Functions and Data Orchestrator, designed to allow data-aware functions scheduling across multi-serverless compute clusters present at different locations, such as at the edge and in the cloud. FaDO works through header-based HTTP reverse proxying and uses three load-balancing algorithms: 1) the Least Connections, 2) Round Robin, and 3) Random for load balancing the invocations of the function across the suitable serverless compute clusters based on the set storage policies. FaDO further provides users with an abstraction of the serverless compute cluster's storage, allowing users to interact with data across different storage services through a unified interface. In addition, users can configure automatic and policy-aware granular data replications, causing FaDO to spread data across the clusters while respecting location constraints. Load testing results show that it is capable of load balancing high-throughput workloads, placing functions near their data without contributing any significant performance overhead.
