the demand for multimedia content imposes considerable strain on IP technology, particularly in terms of latency. Named data networking (NDN) emerges as a future networking solution, characterized by a content-centric approach featuring storage capabilities on routers. However, challenges persist in effectively managing the limited storage capacity of routers, necessitating the development of efficient content replacement strategies. Traditional caching replacement algorithms often struggle to adapt to the dynamic nature and popularity of content across the network. Previous studies have proposed leveraging machine learning (ML) to enhance caching replacement strategies, ensuring eviction processes target only unpopular content. these endeavors have demonstrated promising results in enhancing router storage efficiency. Nonetheless, a critical inquiry arises regarding integrating ML models within the network: Should the ML model be deployed directly on routers or exclusively at the producer level? Bridging the gap between theoretical research and practical implementation is imperative. this study is dedicated to implementing ML algorithms on routers within the NDN. It shows how a simple K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN) machine learning algorithm combined with the Least Recently Used (LRU) caching strategy could greatly improve the process of replacing NDN cache when embedded in all NDN routers. the proposed KNN-LRU model works better than common algorithms like LRU, FIFO, and LFU in terms of cache hit ratio, latency, and link load when validated using the ICARUS caching simulator.

the emergence of the Metaverse as a 3D virtual world has introduced new challenges in networking, communications, and security. As the Metaverse continues to evolve, protecting users’ digital content and personal data has become a critical concern. Blockchain, with its decentralized, immutable, and transparent features, offers a promising solution to address these challenges. this paper provides a comprehensive review of blockchain applications in the Metaverse. We examine blockchain’s role in data acquisition, storage, sharing, interoperability, and privacy preservation, alongside its impact on enabling technologies such as IoT, digital twins, AI, and big data. Finally, we identify future research directions to foster innovation in integrating blockchain with the Metaverse. © 2024 IEEE.

As humanity takes its next giant leap in the pursuit of becoming a multi-planetary species, we must develop new foundational communication technologies to facilitate space exploration. To truly scale space exploration missions, the dollar cost must drastically decrease. To that end, planetary telemetry data can be gathered using large-scale, low-cost, and resource-constrained direct-to-satellite IoT (DtS-IoT) deployments. the IoT devices continuously sense and transmit data to orbiting small satellites and nanosatellites. Utilizing the delay and disruption tolerant networking (DTN) paradigm, these satellites can route data to Earth through inter-satellite links and the interplanetary network. Analysis of this data will enable the development of colonization feasibility models for different planets. We propose creating software-based optimizations to improve the dependability of IoT-based space exploration missions. By targeting lifetime, resource constraints, and reliability, these optimizations aim to reduce the annual cost of operation, enabling massively scaled and economically feasible exploration. this work contributes to the future Solar System Internet, interconnecting humans across planets, natural satellites, and spacecraft.

Mobile GPS data is often considered a noisy data source, limiting its positive impact on aviation operations and location monitoring. this study proposes a Bluetooth mesh networking-based approach for integrating multiple data sources to provide real-time flight information for passengers with limited communication capabilities. By combining GPS data acquired through Bluetooth mesh networking with aircraft ADS-B data, this method addresses challenges in operation monitoring caused by insufficient ADS-B data. It features low cost, high speed, adaptability, robustness, and user-friendliness. Testing and validation were conducted using millions of flight records, with effective validation from half-year historical data and real-time flight data from 235 civil airports nationwide. the results demonstrate the solution's effectiveness in resolving the issue of missing GPS data for certain seats during flights. Moreover, it enhances passengers' ability to access real-time flight information, thereby improving travel satisfaction and flight experience. Additionally, the fusion of multiple data sources enables the acquisition of more comprehensive and accurate flight trajectories, providing a reliable data foundation for flight monitoring and prediction. © 2024 IEEE.

this paper focuses on the transformation of a relational database to a NoSQL database using Model-Driven Architecture (MDA). the research question addressed in this paper is how to automate the process of migrating a relational database to a NoSQL database using MDA. the main findings of this research show that MDA can be used to transform a relational database schema into a NoSQL database schema. the results also show that the transformation process can be automated using Atlas Transformation Language (ATL). the conclusion of this paper is that MDA can help organizations to save time and resources by automating the transformation process, which is critical in modern data-driven applications. © 2023 IEEE.

the rapid expansion of the Internet of things (IoT) has led to an era dominated by diverse networks, with Mist and Fog computing becoming crucial for closer-to-device data processing. Despite the advantages, the surge of data from numerous devices raises challenges in optimizing system longevity, throughput, and latency. Most past research in Mist-IoT did not fully account for factors like residual energy, device location, workload capacity, butter size, and communication frequency, leading to high energy consumption during data exchanges between IoT and Fog systems. this study aims to address these factors for improved energy efficiency, especially with increasing data volume. It introduces a new approach using a Takagi-Sugeno-Kang (TSK) Type 2 Fuzzy Inference within a Fog-Mist-IoT architecture for smarter resource management during communication and task offloading in IoT ecosystem. Simulation results confirm its effectiveness. © 2023 IEEE.

It is of great theoretical significance and application value to construct a reliable underwater sensor network (UWSN), and the networking protocol plays a key role in the data transmission of UWSN. the research of traditional underwater networking protocols mostly focuses on the process of topology discovery with low energy consumption and fast convergence without recognizing the problem of route repair in the case of node failure. Aiming at achieving low delay, low collision rate and high robustness, this paper proposes a sequential networking protocol suitable for distributed underwater acoustic sensor networks. the protocol is divided into two stages: on Stage 1, the strategy of laying and networking is adopted to shorten the networking time;on Stage 2, the importance of nodes in the network is assigned to achieve the effect of quickly selecting sub-optimal routes and reducing the delay of fault repair. Simulation results show that this protocol can effectively reduce the networking time and fault repair time in UWSN, and reduce the networking communication and repair communication times, which may well contrapuntally meet the needs of low latency, low energy consumption, high repair rate and other scenarios. © 2023 IEEE.

With the advancement of Internet of things (IoT) and 5G technology, new network services such as Virtual Reality/Augmented Reality (VR/AR) are emerging, leading to the expansion of network scale and increasing network traffic. As a solution to the increasing complexity of network operation and maintenance, Digital Twin Network (DTN) technology has been introduced. In order to provide visibility into various aspects for network management, observation and analysis of network data are necessary. therefore, this paper presents the types of data available in the digital twin network and the lifecycle process of data pipelines. this work will help to effectively manage data internally when implementing the Digital Twin Network in the future. © 2024 IEEE.

the high stability of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and their agility in harsh areas have enabled their effectiveness in several applications in today's research and industrial communities. the proper coordination and collaboration of multiple UAVs wirelessly linked with a central entity as a Flying Ad hoc NETwork (FANET) is vital to organizing data and improving a wide range of tasks. Meanwhile, maintaining connectivity and coverage requirements remain the most critical issues that should be addressed for data communication and mobility patterns in the area of interest. However, there is a conflict between network connectivity and area coverage during network design and maintenance. the aim of this work is to investigate data communication over UAVs networks while optimizing area coverage and exploration. To this end, we propose a new Cluster-based Random Pheromone Zone (C-RDPZ) for data communication and mobility control in UAVs networks. the simulation of the proposed protocol carried out using Network Simulator 3 (NS3) has yielded convincing results in terms of energy consumption, area coverage, and data communication. © 2023 IEEE.

the communication network within the campus has always adopted the traditional distributed network control architecture to meet the high reliability, high availability and low latency requirements of the network. However, as the demand for rapid network activation continues to emerge, the traditional distributed network control architecture has shown many shortcomings such as closed network architecture and difficulty in network deployment, resulting in a situation where the network is difficult to expand and management is complex and difficult. In response to the above problems, this paper proposes a campus local area network architecture based on software-defined network, using software-defined network technology ideas to transform the existing campus network. through the open southbound control interface design, the control and forwarding logic functions are decoupled. Centralized control is used to give the network a global view, improve network management and control capabilities, and meet the needs of flexible network provisioning in heterogeneous networks. © 2024 IEEE.
