Since its introduction in 2001, the Skyline Query has been a useful addition to database management systems (DBMS) by returning best-fit results to a user. the skyline query is also a relevant area of research in mathematics as the maximum vector problem and multi-objective optimization. In this paper, we analyze boththe Partitioning and Filtering (P&F) method and a new proposed method called Iterated Window Indexing. Next, we also propose two new methods, comprising combinations of previous solutions and Window Indexing. We then show that our hybrid methods are suitable for many cases and perform up to 10 times better than P&F and up to 8 times better than the Block Nested Loop (BNL) algorithm for computing skyline points.

the overall performance of database system can be hinder by uncontrolled concurrency. In multi-user distributed database environment conflicts are normal. Concurrency is undesirable for large time-dependent and time-critical databaseapplications; it must be monitored and managed effectively to ensure consistency of the database system. Uncontrolled concurrency can leave the database in an inconsistent state and can become obstacle in the overall performance of database system. Traditionally time stamps and lock-based approaches are used to address the problem of concurrency. the study showcases the new breed of algorithm known as JAG_TDB_CC concurrency control algorithm, which is a unique blend of a timestamp and lock-based concurrency control mechanisms. this paper shows a comparative study and performance evaluation of the JAG_TDB_CC concurrency control algorithm in comparison to traditional pessimistic and optimistic mechanisms for managing a concurrency for temporary database system using Oracle 12c.

In this paper a new optimization algorithm based on ant colony metaphor (ACO)and a new approach for the Multiple Knapsack Problem is presented. the MKP is the problem of assigning a subset of n items to m distinct knapsacks, such that the total profit sum of the selected items is maximized, without exceeding the capacity of each of the knapsacks. the problem has several difficulties in adaptation as well as the trail representation of the solutions of MKP or a dynamically changed heuristic function applied in this approach. Presented results show the power of the ACO approach for solving this type of subset problems.

this article discusses modifications to the MASPER training procedure for HMM models, and its application in a construction of ASR system based on the Slovak MOBILDAT database. First, a general description of MASPER and REFREC based training methods is given from a historical prospective, followed by the proposed modification regarding the handling of truncated speech, mispronounced words, and unintelligible speech by inserting general background model. Various structures of background models and their gradual enhancement steps were tested using classical test procedures defined by MASPER. For the best ones, they exhibited improved results especially for more complex models (context dependent) compared to the reference methods. In those cases more than 5% relative improvements were observed.
