this paper presents a new brain-inspired, switching control approach for a car-like autonomous vehicle using a basal ganglia (BG) model as an action selection mechanism. the problem domain has challenging nonholonomic and state constraints which imply no single stabilizing controller solution is possible by time-invariant smooth state feedback. To allow the BG make the correct controller selection from a family of candidate motion controllers, a fuzzy logic-based salience model using reference and tracking error only is developed, and applied in a soft switching control mechanism. To demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach for motion tracking control, we show effective control for a circular trajectory tracking application. the performance and advantages of the proposed fuzzy salience model and the BG-based soft switching control scheme against a traditional single control method are compared. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

this paper presents a novel navigation system designed for a brain-controlled wheelchair, which interacts with human user by the low throughput interface. the navigation system proposes the semantic map, which is integrated with the navigation points, semantic targets and local 3D map, to a human user who can choose one of the navigation points as a goal for navigation. the semantic targets provide category, geometry and functionality information of the recognized objects, such as a table which can be docked. the local 3D map provides the navigation points in the traversable areas. the human-wheelchair interactive system shows the semantic map to user, and the user selects the goal via a brain-computer interfaces (BCI). therefore, this method can help the wheelchair implement accurate navigation (e.g. docking) with a low throughput interface and the safety and comfortability are improved. Our navigation system is successfully tested in real environment. © 2013 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

the paper aims to solve the radio altitude signal mixed with sea wave noise which should be filtered as the helicopter executing the antisubmarine task. the sea wave is modeled based on the rational spectral approach and obtained in the form of white noise shaping filter as the sea wave color noise is changed into white noise. For the measurement equation and state equation can be formed including the estimated value, the sea wave filter is brought out according to the continuous Kalman filtering theory and added to the altitude channel. Lastly, the cable-height control system has taken radio altitude and normal acceleration which have been filtered as feedback signals. the effects of the filter in different wind speeds are separately verified by the digital simulations, and the results show the design approach is available and effective. © 2013 Springer science+Business Media New York.

A distributed medium-access control (MAC) protocol for the time-slotted channel with multi-packet reception (MPR) capability is proposed. In contrast to the commonly assumed collision channel, in the MPR channel with channel capacity K, it is possible to decode up to K packets whose transmissions overlap in time. In order to exploit the MPR capability, the additive-increase multiplicative-decrease MAC (AIMD-MAC) protocol is designed to adaptively adjust the access probabilities of the independent nodes based on their local transmission histories. the examined performance metrics for evaluating this protocol include aggregate throughput, average packet delay and system fairness. Extensive simulations show that the performance of AIMD-MAC is superior to that of S-Aloha*under light traffic loads and achieves the optimum level after the system is saturated. With a suitable parameter set, AIMD-MAC can be adequately applied in a dynamic wireless environment. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

Significant efforts have gone into the development of statistical models for analyzing data in the form of networks, such as social networks. Most existing work has focused on modeling static networks, which represent either a single time snapshot or an aggregate view over time. there has been recent interest in statistical modeling of dynamic networks, which are observed at multiple points in time and offer a richer representation of many complex phenomena. In this paper, we propose a state-space model for dynamic networks that extends the well-known stochastic blockmodel for static networks to the dynamic setting. We then propose a procedure to fit the model using a modification of the extended Kalman filter augmented with a local search. We apply the procedure to analyze a dynamic social network of email communication. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

Large amount of video data is stored and distributed in wide variety of application. Due to the fast video material increases, manage and query of video become more and more important. In this paper, we address a temporal signature representation and similarity model to retrieval the similar video within database by video query. Experimental results on real date are presented. the experimental results show that the statistical approach permits accurate query of video clip, in particular, the performance of the approach was found extremely satisfactory with determine all similar video in database. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

the standardized precipitation index (SPI) was used to quantify the classification of drought in the Guanzhong Plain, China. the autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) models were developed to fit and forecast the SPI series. Most of the selected ARIMA models are seasonal models (SARIMA). the forecast results show that the forecasting power of the ARIMA models increases with the increase of the time scales, and the ARIMA models are more powerful in short-term forecasting. Further study was made on the correlation coefficient between the actual SPIs and the predicted ones for the forecasting. It is shown that the ARIMA models can be used to forecast 1-month leading values of all SPI series, and 6-month leading values for SPI with time scales of 9, 12 and 24 months. Our study shows that the ARIMA models developed in the Guanzhong Plain can be effectively used in drought forecasting. © 2013 IFIP international Federation for Information Processing.

this paper focused on ordinary fuzzy controller for operation of control rule by approximate processing for a particular discrete points, resulting in steady-state performance results information loss;made binary optimized fuzzy control algorithm of bilinear interpolation. On the basis of basic fuzzy controller, it was to avoid error due to an approximate calculation of the loss of information, used by dual bilinear interpolation algorithm to improve continuity of control rules, so as to achieve the goal of improving stability precision. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2013.

this paper presents an insight into leather manufacturing processes, depicting peculiarities and challenges faced by leather industry. An analysis of this industry reveals the need for a new approach to optimize the productivity of leather processing operations, ensure consistent quality of leather, mitigate the adverse health effects in tannery workers exposed to chemicals and comply with environmental regulation. Holonic manufacturing systems (HMS) paradigm represent a bottom-up distributed approach that provides stability, adaptability, efficient use of resources and a plug and operate functionality to the manufacturing system. A vision of how HMS might operate in a tannery is illustrated presenting the rationales behind its application in this industry. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

Secure optimized link state routing in mobile social networks

Mobile social network MSN is comprised of autonomous and self-organizing mobile computing devices which do not have a fixed infrastructure but rather they use ad-hoc routing protocols for data transmission and reception. Due to the continuous mobility of the user and working with the internet through the cellular operators on the mobility there is a need of efficient mobile social network services (MSNs) where user of similar interest in specific area under the connectivity of telecom operation can exchange contents like news, pictures, voice and video chatting and much more by accessing the internet. Optimized Link State (OLSR) is an IP reactive routing protocol which is optimized for MANET that is part of mobile social network and it can also be used for other wireless ad-hoc networks. Nodes in mobile social network network cannot perform route discovery or maintenance functions itself. this problem is resolved by using OLSR as it computes the routing distance from sending node to receiving node at preset intervals. this research paper proposed Secure Routing Protocol (SRP) OLSR Message for Mobile social network and its implementation. Performance of proposed SRP is compared to ordinary OLSR. the simulation results reveal that proposed SRP is more efficient and secure than ordinary OLSR. SRP OLSR can be used for further research towards development of a commercial demand for the MSNs routing protocol using Blowfish cryptosystem for encryption and decryption for secure routing in a given MSN. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.
