Particle swarm optimization is proposed to optimize the particle filter in order to Travel out the well-known particle impoverishment and dependency problem. through particle swarm optimization, particle samples are moved to neighbor higher likelihood areas. In this way, it can obtain more approximate to the true posterior probability density function. Meanwhile, the number of particle sample reducing significantly, make it the better choose to apply the real -time estimation and tracking problem. © 2010 IEEE.

this paper deals with eccentricity fault detection in a induction motor via artificial neural networks. Discriminative features are extracted from magnitude-frequency plot of line current spectra at characteristic frequencies. Based on this data, training and test sets for used artificial neural networks are made. Feedforward and radial basis function neural networks are used for tasks of rotor condition classification. Well trained artificial neural networks are capable to successfully classify rotor condition at medium and full shaft load for choosen features. Simple structure and implementation made them suitably for practical usage. © 2010 IEEE.

Link adaptation is a critical component of IEEE 802.11 systems, which adapts transmission rates to dynamic wireless channel conditions. In this paper we investigate a general cross-layer link adaptation algorithm which jointly considers the physical layer link quality and random channel access at the MAC layer. An analytic model is proposed for the link adaptation algorithm. the underlying wireless channel is modeled with a multiple state discrete time Markov chain. Compared with the pure link quality based link adaptation algorithm, the proposed cross-layer algorithm can achieve considerable performance gains of up to 20%. Copyright © 2010 ACM.

this paper analyzes the reasons of asynchronous between audio and video image for current 3G video phones. A solution for improving the synchronization between audio and video data is proposed. the solution proposed in this work mainly consists of software components, according to which hardware needs to be selected. It also gives the video phone terminal structure, block diagram for H.324M video phone terminal, the main software functional blocks, the implementation flow chart of each module and the whole implementation flow chart of the designed solution. the synchronization performance of audio and video can be improved by adding user interface module, timestamp monitoring module and audio decoder controlling module, as well as by detecting the current decoding states of both audio decoder chip and video decoder chip, by the use of software to control the decoding rate of the sound decoder and video decoder, improving the effects of 3G video phone communications. © 2010 IEEE.

this paper presents progress made in a previously proposed algorithm for trajectory optimization of autonomous aerial vehicles performing multiple target tracking. the base algorithm, which was described in two earlier papers, involves a variant of the model predictive control approach, built on a partially observed Markov decision process (POMDP) model of the sensor-target system. In this paper modifications and additions made to deal with fixed-wing aircraft dynamics of the controlled vehicles are described and results of simulations involving multiple fixed-wing UAVs, no-fly zones and targets are presented. © 2010 IEEE.

the carrier recovery is one key technique in the demodulation of high order quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) signals. A carrier recovery algorithm which switches between multi-threshold polarity decision mode and decision directed mode according to the standard deviation of the frequency of numerically controlled oscillator (NCO) is proposed. the proposed algorithm can detect a proper time for the mode switch to yield lower steady state error. the simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm in improving the performance of blind carrier recovery. © 2010 IEEE.

the optical characteristics of the fabricated Si1-xGe x nanowires (SGNWs) with different compositions have been researched. Firstly, the SGNWs have been fabricated by Vapor Liquid Solid (VLS) mechanism by using Ni as a catalyst under the temperature of 1000oC, and the length and the compositions of the SGNWs could be tuned by controlling the growth time and the mole ratios of SiCl4:GeCl4 respectively. Secondly, the total reflection and the transmission of the fabricated SGNWs have been measured by the Varian Cary 5000 UV/VIS/NIR spectrophotometer in a wavelength range of 300-2000 nm for explaining the color changes of the samples. At last, we give some discussions and the explanations about the experimental results. © 2010 IEEE.

Today, more than 80% of energy is produced from fossil fuels that pollute the air and surrounding environments each and every day, creating global warming. therefore it is time to think about alternative sources of energy to build a climate friendly environment. In contrast to fossil fuels, renewable energy offers alternative sources of energy which are in general pollution free, unlimited, and environmentally sustainable. this paper presents a feasibility study undertaken to investigate the prospects of solar energy for the climate similar to Australia so as to further investigate the impacts of renewable energy sources in existing and future smart power systems. the monthly average global solar radiation has been collected for twenty-one locations in Australia from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Hybrid Optimisation Model for Electric Renewable (HOMER), and Renewable-energy and Energy-efficient Technologies (RETScreen) computer tools were used to perform comparative analysis of solar energy with diesel and hybrid systems. Initially, total net present cost (NPC), cost of energy (COE) and the renewable fraction (RF) were measured as performances metrics to compare the performances of different systems. For better optimisation, the model has been refined with a sensitivity analysis which explores performance variations due to solar irradiation and electricity prices. Finally, a statistical analysis was conducted to select the best potential places in Australia that produce maximum solar energy. ©2010 IEEE.

Circuit breaker switching operation will generate transient voltage and inrush current. the synchronous switching control strategies research can effectively reduce the transient effect and improve power quality. the transient operation process of vacuum circuit breaker is analyzed by deriving the system voltage and current expressions when vacuum circuit breaker switching reactive compensation capacitor bank. the theory switching phases without transient transition process are obtained by referring to the voltage and current expression. the optimum switching capacitor banks phase and new synchronous switching control strategies of different connections capacitor bank are given by synthetically considering closing action time dispersion, pre-strike characteristic and opening arcing time of vacuum circuit breaker. the voltage and current waveforms when vacuum circuit breaker randomly, according to traditional and new synchronous switching strategies switching ungrounded Y capacitor banks connection are simulated in the article. Simulation results show that the inrush current under the new synchronous switching control strategies can be reduced *** closing voltage has no oscillation transition process, that is, directly accesses to steady-state. So the theoretical analysis and synchronous switching control strategies in the article are verified correctly. © 2010 IEEE.
