the Heat Pump with geothermal exchanger is one of the best methods to heat a building. the heat exchanger is an element with probabilities of failure due its size and due it is outside construction. the present study shows a novel intelligent system design to detect faults on this type of heating equipment. the novel approach has been successfully empirically tested under a real dataset obtained during measurements along one year. It is based on classification techniques with the aim to detect failures in real time. then the model is validated and verified over the building;it allows to obtain good results in all the operating conditions ranges. © Springer international Publishing Switzerland 2014.

Energy efficiency in buildings is a topic that is being widely studied. In order to achieve energy efficiency it is necessary to perform both, a proper management of the electric demand, and an optimal exploitation of renewable sources, using for that appropriate control strategies. the main objective of this paper is to develop a short term predictive model, based on neural networks, of the electricity demand for the CIESOL research center. the performed experiments, using different techniques for weather forecast, show a quick prediction with acceptable final results for real data, obtaining a maximum root mean squared error of 5% in validation data, with a short-term prediction horizon of 60 minutes. © Springer international Publishing Switzerland 2014.

the development of automatic methods to produce usable structured information from unstructured text sources is extremely valuable to the oil and gas industry. A structured resource would allow researches and industry professionals to write relatively simple queries to retrieve all the information regards transcriptions of any accident. Instead of the thousands of abstracts provided by querying the unstructured corpus, the queries on structured corpus would result in a few hundred well-formed results. On this paper we propose and evaluate information extraction techniques in occupational health control process, particularly, for the case of automatic detection of accidents from unstructured texts. Our proposal divides the problem in subtasks such as text analysis, recognition and classification of failed occupational health control, resolving accidents. © Springer international Publishing Switzerland 2014.

the half wave rectifier with a capacitor filter circuit is a typically non-linear case of study. It requires a hard work to solve it on analytic form. the main reason is due to the fact that the output voltage comes alternatively from the source and from the capacitor. this study describes a novel intelligent model to obtain the time when the changes of the sources occur. For the operation range, a large set of work points are calculated to create the dataset. To achieve the final solution, several simple regression methods have been tested. the novel model is verified empirically by using CAD software to simulate electronic circuits and by analytical methods. the novel model allows to obtain good results in all the operating range. © Springer international Publishing Switzerland 2014.

Because of the potential public health risk posed by the rapidly expanding array of engineered nanomaterials(ENMs) currently in use in many consumer products and industrial applications, high-throughput in vitro methods for safety assessment are sorely needed, but to date have not proven reliable in predicting toxicological outcomes in animal models. One of the important reasons for this discordance is the failure to reconcile in vitro with in-vivo doses and link them to "real world" ENM exposure levels. Furthermore, despite growing evidence of the importance of dosimetry in in vitro hazard ranking, very few studies take it into consideration. this may be primarily due to a lack of standardized, easy to use, and validated tools and methodologies for dispersion preparation, characterization and in-vitro dosimetry estimation. this talk will present the importance of measuring cellular dosimetry of ENMs and its implications for the field of nanomaterial safety, highlight several mature, sophisticated computational tools and experimental methods for obtaining dosimetry information in vivo and extrapolating those findings to in vitro cellular systems with specific examples related to "real world" ENM exposures.

this chapter proposes an approach to fuzzy modeling of Anti-lock Braking Systems (ABSs). the local state-space models are derived by the linearization of the nonlinear ABS process model at ten operating points. the Takagi- Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy models are obtained by the modal equivalence principle, where the local state-space models are the rule consequents. the optimization problems are defined in order to minimize the objective functions expressed as the squared modeling errors, and the variables of these functions are a part of the parameters of input membership functions. Simulated Annealing algorithms are implemented to solve the optimization problems and to obtain optimal T-S fuzzy models. Real-time experimental results are included to validate the new optimal T-S fuzzy models for ABS laboratory equipment. © Springer international Publishing Switzerland 2014.

the article deals with the modeling and predictive control of real hydraulic system using artificial neural network (ANN). For the design of optimal neural network model structure we developed procedures for creation optimal-minimal structure which ensure desired model accuracy. this procedure was designed using genetic algorithms (GA) in Matlab-Simulink. the predictive control algorithm was implemented using CompactLogix programmable logic controller (PLC). the main aim of the proposed paper is design of methodology and effective real-time algorithm for possible applications in industry. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

this multidisciplinary research analyzes the atmospheric pollution conditions of two different places in Czech Republic. the case study is based on real data provided by the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute along the period between 2006 and 2010. Seven variables with atmospheric pollution information are considered. Different soft computing models are applied to reduce the dimensionality of this data set and show the variability of the atmospheric pollution conditions among the two places selected, as well as the significant variability of the air quality along the time. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

the paper deals with the applications of artificial neural networks in the control of the DC drive. In the paper three control structures are discussed. the first control structure uses a conventional PI controller. the second structure uses a neural network predictive control. the last structure is a sensorless control of the DC drive using feedforward neural network. the DC drives were simulated in program Matlab with Simulink toolbox. the main goal was to find the simplest neural network structures with minimum number of neurons, but simultaneously good control characteristics are required. Despite used neural networks, which are very simple, it was achieved satisfactory results.
