Vehicular edge computing (VEC) has emerged in the Internet of Vehicles (IoV) as a new paradigm that offloads computation tasks to Road Side Units (RSU) aiming to reduce the processing delay as well as the resource consumption of vehicles. Ideal computation offloading policies for VEC are expected to achieve both low latency and low energy consumption. Although existing works have made great contributions, they rarely consider the coordination of multiple RSUs and the individual Quality of Service (QoS) requirements of different applications resulting in suboptimal offloading policies. In this paper, we present FEVEC, a Fast and Energy-efficient VEC framework with the objective of making the optimal offloading strategy that minimizes both delay and energy consumption. FEVEC coordinates multiple RSUs and considers the application-specific QoS requirement. We formalize the computation offloading problem as a multi-objective optimization problem by jointly optimizing offloading decision and resource allocation, which is a mixed-integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) problem and NP-hard. We propose MOV, a Multi-Objective computing offloading method for VEC, where an improved Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm-II (NSGA-II) is adopted to obtain the Pareto-optimal solutions with low complexity. Furthermore, the optimal offloading strategy is selected for QoS maximization. Extensive evaluation results based on realistic and simulated vehicle trajectories verify that our proposed algorithm has a better performance compared with the state-of-the-art VEC mechanism.

A Harris Hawk Optimization (HHO) become popular in recent works to resolve various power system cases, including tuning Power System Stabilizer (PSS). However, HHO has several challenges, such as premature convergence can occur due to less diversity in solutions with an unbalanced exploration and exploitation process. therefore, this paper proposed the Hybrid Harris Hawk Optimization-Equilibrium Optimizer Algorithm (HHHO-EOA) to enhance HHO performance and acquire better optimal tuning for PSS. the EOA is a well-balanced exploration and exploitation algorithm. A Linearized Heffron-Phillips model for Single-Machine Infinite Bus (SMIB) is modeled to evaluate the proposed algorithm in tuning PSS. Various performance indices are used as the objective functions. the HHHO-EOA has a significantly better enhancement in the convergence curve with consistent results than previous algorithms. the minimum objective function achieved by the proposed algorithm is 78.3% and 60% lower than conventional EOA and HHO. Moreover, the PSS based on the proposed algorithm is 10.24% and 19.69% better in damping the overshoot than conventional EOA and HHO in both frequency and power angle deviation responses.

Hyperspectral Image (HSI) denoising is a crucial pre-processing task due to its widespread applications in areas that include geology, medicine, agriculture, surveillance, and the food industry. Denoising HSI data improves high-level vision tasks like classification, object tracking, and video surveillance. In this work, we propose a novel attention-based deep auto-encoder for HSI denoising which learns a mapping from noisy observation to clean the data. To exploit the spatial-spectral information present in HSI data, 3D symmetric convolution and deconvolution are used. the 3D features extracted from 3D convolutional layers (CL) helps the restoration across the depth dimension. However, feature maps obtained from the convolutional layers are localized and are not able to capture long-range dependencies in the data. Furthermore, CL does not differentiate between low and high degradation levels;producing smoothed results in low-textured areas of the image and artifacts in the high-textured regions. To avoid these adverse effects, attention blocks are plugged into the network to focus on more relevant features during the restoration process. Features obtained from attention blocks are fed as symmetric skip connections into the corresponding deconvolution layers. the proposed model is fully convolutional;it can process 3D images of arbitrary dimensions during training and inference. the experimental results show that our proposed model: Attention-based Deep Auto-encoder (AbDAE) outperforms the state-of-the-art methods in terms of visual as well as quantitative results. © 2022, the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

In recent days, the research has been focusing on designing intelligent battery swapping station (BSS) infrastructure which helps to refuel the battery within few minutes. BSS is considered as a practical means for avoiding the long charging time associated with the charging of vehicles at charging station. In this paper, an intelligent swapped battery station scheduling algorithm (ISBSS-Algorithm) is proposed, which may help to fulfill the charging process with the objective to minimize the total charging cost by maintaining the rental income optimum. the scheduling process has been performed for 24 hours, at 15 minutes interval. Using 2m-Point Estimation Method (PEM) the uncertain attributes have been tackled. It has been observed that proposed algorithm is burlier enough to provide consistent output. By clubbing Human Felicity Algorithm (HFA) optimization technique, the objective function has been minimized.

the symmetric intersection (SI) is a type of unconventional intersection that could increase capacity of the intersection. Although this type of intersection is promising, the bicycle crossing method has not been designed for SI, which prevents it from implementation. In this study, we propose three bicycle crossing designs for the purpose of eliminating the conflict between bicycles and vehicles, and optimize the corresponding signal timing. the first is to reverse the bicycle lane on the right-hand-traffic arterial, so that left-turning bicycles can pass at any time, which can reduce the flow of bicycles through the conflicting area of the intersection. the second is to use an advanced stop line, which moves the stop line backwards and sets up a bicycle waiting area in the front to reduce the conflict between bicycles and vehicles. the third is to set up an exclusive phase for bicycles to separate vehicles and bicycles. A linear programming model that maximizes the capacity of the intersection for vehicles considering constraints such as signal phase and cycle duration is established to calculate the signal timing. A case study is performed to determine the optimal signal timing of each condition. the results show that the scheme of advanced stop lines could reduce delays and increase capacity of the intersection for bicycles, but the capacity for vehicles is reduced, and thus should be used when the traffic demand of motor vehicles is not high. In the condition of high-throughput vehicles, the exclusive phase for bicycles perform better. © 2021 IEEE.

Automatic CAD design is difficult in construction field, since the construction environments vary case by case. Although the steps are similar, each creation is very time-consuming. therefore, in this research a method that could automatically generate 3D CAD models and 2D drawings from the onsite measured geomorphological features is proposed to solve the complicated and similar process. this proposed method was implemented through the API (Application Programmable Interface) of CAD system and has been verified in practice that labor costs and time costs have been greatly reduced. In addition, mixed reality is applied to verify the assembly results, and an effective and realistic experience is provided to the user and the customer. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Transmission line losses have a significant impact on power flow on a grid as well as generation cost;hence it affects operational scheduling in power systems. this study presents a DC optimization model with constrained power losses, of the transmission expansion planning (TEP) problem. In the paper, a comparison of the TEP model with and without power losses is presented. the developed Mixed Integer Quadratic programming (MIQP) model was solved using an Algebraic Modelling Language and validated on an IEEE 6-bus system. the numerical results obtained indicate that the transmission line loss is equivalent to a 2.4% incremental load. © 2019 IEEE.

With the aging of population and the advance of technology, handwritten numeral recognition system is sophisticated and widely used. However, due to the presence of different writing surfaces, postures and other factors, the performance of handwritten numeral recognition is limited. In this paper, we propose a new supervised recurrent neural network, which combines time and space for target location prediction on handwritten datasets. Our method is based on the YOLO framework, and combines a long and short term memory (LSTM) mechanism. Moreover, our method not only locates handwritten images, but also improves the classification accuracy. Extensive comparison with the state-of-the-art methods demonstrates that our method achieves both accuracy and robustness on handwritten datasets. Meanwhile, our method is effective with low computational cost.

Radio imaging has become instrumental in examining internal anomalies and body organs. the medical expert manually delineates the images in routine practice and reaches the decision. However, manual intervention leads to errors due to human limitations, and the decision becomes operator-dependent. therefore, automatic liver segmentation from computed tomography (CT) images plays a decisive role in detecting hepatic anomalies, treatment planning, liver transplantation, liver cancer treatment, and post-treatment assessment. Recently deep learning (DL) techniques have proven competence in medical image segmentation. the proposed method is DL-based multiscale feature fusion with channel-wise attention network (MFCA-Net) designed using the computationally efficient Res2Net (R2N) layer, which has the ability to enhance the receptive field of convolutional neural network (CNN) and extract the multiscale information at a more granular level. Further, we reconstructed the multiscale low-level features and fused them with high-level features that enhance the semantic details in the features. In addition, we employed the channel-wise attention mechanism that renovates the features by modelling the interdependencies between the channels and focusing on the prominent features. Also, we altered the low-level features by fusing the renovated features that augment the contextual information, which simplifies the network learning potential. the efficacy of the proposed network was demonstrated on the CHAOS challenge test dataset, where the network attained the DICE of 96.67 ± 0.72%. thus, the proposed MFCA-Net is computationally efficient, and liver segmentation performance is comparable with state-of-the-art methods. © 2022, the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Foreground segmentation in videos is a perplexing task. Infrequent motion of objects, illumination, shadow, camouflage, etc. are major factors which degrades the quality of segmentation. Usage of visual features like color, texture or shape, deficiencies the acquaintance of semantic evidence for foreground segmentation. In this paper, a novel compact multiscale motion saliency encoder-decoder learning network, ((MS)2EDNet) is presented for moving object detection (MOD). Initially, the lengthy streaming video is split into several small video streams (SVS). the background for each SVS is estimated using proposed network. Further, the saliency map is estimated via the input frames and estimated background for each SVS. Further, a compact multiscale encoder–decoder network (MSEDNet) is presented to extract the multiscale foregrounds from saliency maps. the extracted multiscale foregrounds are integrated to estimate the final foreground of the video frame. the effectiveness of the proposed (MS)2EDNet is estimated on three standard datasets (CDnet-2014 [1], and Wallflower [3]) for MOD. the compactness of the (MS)2EDNet is analyzed based on computational complexity and compared with the present approaches. Experimental study shows that proposed network outpaces the present state-of-the-art approaches on three standard datasets for MOD in terms of both detection accuracy and computational complexity. © 2022, the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
