Computational thinking (CT) gained significant importance in education, leading to a surge in the development of dedicated instructional platforms. the cultivation of students' CT skills posed a challenge, often involving the introduction of abstract and challenging-to-visualize programming concepts. this study aimed to bridge this gap by introducing an augmented reality-based coding game-an interactive learning platform designed to facilitate students in acquiring programming skills and enhancing their grasp of computational thinking concepts. the augmented reality (AR) digital game is specifically directed towards fundamental CT skills, such as pattern recognition, decomposition, abstraction, and developing algorithms. To evaluate the effectiveness of the AR game in enhancing CT skills, a study was conducted with 124 middle school students, entailing in grades 6th and 8th. the experimental group (N = 63) utilized the AR game, while the control group (N = 61) relied on conventional text materials. the findings of the experiment strongly supported the integration of AR technology along with game-based learning as a means to enhance CT knowledge and skills while simultaneously reducing cognitive load.

the rapid expansion and extensive integration of modern e-commerce have dramatically escalated consumer expectations regarding the speed of order fulfillment. In response, advanced smart warehouse technologies have emerged as pivotal solutions for optimizing distribution efficiency. this study focuses on addressing the challenge of batch order allocation within Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV)-based 'goods-to-person' picking systems. It investigates a decentralized storage strategy aimed at facilitating batch picking across multiple orders simultaneously, thereby enhancing the efficiency of AGV operations. the research develops an integer programming model designed to minimize total AGV movements during batch order allocation. To optimize this model, an enhanced Firefly algorithm is introduced, featuring a dynamically adjusted parameter to expedite convergence during random operations. Experimental validation underscores the efficacy of both the model and algorithm, demonstrating significant improvements in batch order processing efficiency. © 2024 IEEE.

Computers are widely used in the field of construction, and the use of computers in the structural design of buildings can improve the efficiency and accuracy of design. this paper presents a parametric design of building structures based on Dynamo for Revit and Y-GAMA 4.0 with examples for validation;adopts the functional programming method of Python language and the method of data processing and structural analysis, and develops a Python-based structural automatic modelling program and carries out examples for validation. the program is used for the interface of YJK building structure design software version v6.0.0, which is more operable than the parametric design method. Both computer parametric design and automatic modelling have greater application prospects. © 2024 IEEE.

this article proposes an efficient and secure overall framework construction technology for the platform. Based on the B/S structure, this article innovatively develops a new system, effectively addressing the limitations in data processing and reducing server overload and maintenance costs. In terms of programming technology, the lightweight and customizable development is achieved by adopting the SSM framework (Spring MVC, Spring, MyBatis) based on J2EE. the platform design includes a real-time monitoring module and a data module, integrating advanced technologies such as drones and remote sensing, and ensuring data security and efficient collection through data encryption and 3S technology. the archive management adopts MySQL, MongoDB, and TDengine to meet the diverse data storage needs. this research provides strong technical support for platform construction. © 2024 IEEE.

the lack of unified approaches to creating various complex organizational and technical systems and the accompanying processes gives rise to a problem associated with general rules for assessing and ensuring the interoperability of such systems. Complex systems are characterized by multiple states. Each state is defined by a particular set of parameters. Changing the values of parameters that characterize a separate element of the system can lead to changes in the output parameters of the system as a whole and its state. the latter, along with the presence of complex functional dependencies, significantly complicates formalization when describing the functioning of such systems. Attempts to organize the joint functioning of systems that have not reached a certain level of quality according to a set of critical characteristics often have the opposite effect. the research results are intended to provide a basis for assessing process quality performance. the assessment results can be used to improve process performance, benchmarking, or identify risks associated with the application of processes.

Rust is an emerging programming language that provides both memory and thread safety like Java, and runtime efficiency like C/C++, by introducing a number of novel language features such as ownership, borrowing, explicit lifetime, and unsafe. these novel features make Rust a promising safe system language to build infrastructures in AI for science, where both security and performance are indispensable. However, there are no prior empirical studies of Rust language feature usage at the ecosystem scale, and such a study is important not only for guiding future language evolution but also for identifying research opportunities and challenges. In this paper, to fill the gap, we present the first comprehensive empirical study of Rust language feature usage at the ecosystem scale, by analyzing all registered 9,683 science-related crates in the Rust community's crate registry, with a novel tool RInsight we created. the empirical results give important insights, such as: 1) the dominated language features in all crates are functional ones (66.67%), which presents evidence that Rust is essentially a functional language pragmatically, but does NOT support the claim that 'Rust is a safe dialect of C';and 2) the unsafe feature is not used at an as high ratio as the prior study reported and is continuously dropping since 2018. We present the implications of these empirical findings and future research challenges to promote future research. © 2024 IEEE.

this paper presents an optimization study for battery storage systems in off-grid residential solar energy applications. the research focuses on balancing energy efficiency, storage capacity, and cost-effectiveness using two optimization models: Sequential Quadratic programming (SQP) and a Genetic Algorithm (GA) with a penalty function. the study compares these approaches under specific technical constraints, including usable capacity, continuous power rating, and instantaneous power rating. Results indicate that the SQP model outperforms the GA in terms of cost optimization while meeting all operational requirements. Additionally, the paper explores the potential of emerging cement battery technology, which could offer novel solutions for energy storage in future applications. While promising, cement batteries remain under development and require further investigation to assess their viability in real-world scenarios. © the Institution of Engineering & Technology 2024.

the integration of medicine and artificial intelligence is creating novel opportunities to gather, analyze, and generate groundbreaking medical insights from the vast expanse of medical literature. Although these advancements hold great promise, difficulties including manual annotation and precise data retrieval, and transparency persist. advanced natural language processing (NLP) techniques and large language models (LLMs) have shown potential in addressing these issues. this paper introduces the Medical Knowledge Graph (MedKG), a comprehensive and multidisciplinary medical knowledge graph. By utilizing advanced NLP algorithms, MedKG extracts millions of entities and converts them into triples from a corpus of superior medical research papers published over the last decade. It categorizes unstructured medical information into nine distinct tags, including disease names, treatments, diagnoses, symptoms, genetics, cellular structures of diseases, patient data, medical procedures, and treatment applications, while seamlessly integrating the digital object identifier (DOI) of each paper. As the latest structured database of medical knowledge, MedKG serves as a powerful tool for accelerating medical research and lays the groundwork for constructing a more extensive medical knowledge graph using full-text medical articles. Moreover, our research establishes a foundation for practical knowledge management systems based on text mining, applicable not only to complex medical systems but also to other professional domains. © 2024 IEEE.

With the development of very large scale integrated circuit (VLSI), verification becomes an indispensable step to ensure the normal operation of digital circuits. In the face of increasing complex large-scale digital design, universal verification methodology (UVM) has become the mainstream verification method due to its scalability, standardization, portability and other characteristics. Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is an advanced multi-carrier transmission technology, which is widely used in the field of wireless communication. this paper presents a verification framework of OFDM baseband processing system based on UVM. UVM generates random excitation and passes it to our design, and automatically collects the results and compares them with the reference model to achieve sufficient verification of the system. Simulation results show the final functional coverage reaches 100%, demonstrating the validity of our verification framework. © 2023 IEEE.

In the modern world, making healthy food choices is increasingly important due to the rise in food-related illnesses. Existing tools, such as Nutri-Score and comprehensive food labels, often pose challenges for many consumers. this paper proposes an application that uses Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technologies to read and interpret food labels, thus upgrading current solutions that rely mainly on reading product barcodes. By using advanced optical character recognition and machine learning techniques, the system aims to accurately extract and analyze nutritional information directly from food packaging without relying on a database of pre-registered products. this innovative approach not only increases consumer awareness, but also supports personalized diet management for diseases such as diabetes and hypertension, while promoting healthier eating habits and better health outcomes. Two minimalist functional prototypes were developed as a result of this work: a desktop application and a mobile application. © 2024 IEEE.
