In mobile devices, user satisfaction with the UI interactions ought to be the primary design driver. Some recent research has integrated a saturating, non-linear user satisfaction function in thread scheduler. Mobile embedded systems are moving towards large systems on chip (SoCs) with a Network on Chip (NoC). the inter-thread communication in such a system is hosted by the NoC as a flow. the application and operating system level user satisfaction research assumes that the throughput of inter-thread edges is limited only by the computational constraints of the nodes. With NoC, however, NoC resource allocation policies play an important role in the application level user satisfaction. In this paper, we filter down the user satisfaction from an application level attribute to the routers to improve the QoS at the routing level in order to leverage the user satisfaction at the application and system level. We demonstrate that this technique improves the user satisfaction of MP3 application by 10% while maintaining the QoS guarantee of MPEG-2 application. Copyright 2013 ACM.

simulation tools appear the only solution suitable for with the complexity of the actual critical infrastructure scenarios. Indeed, due to interdependency phenomena and the fast innovation of the technologies, our capability to predict the global behavior of such system of systems on the basis of past history and experiences is dramatically reduced, especially in the presence of anomalous or crisis situations. this drives many groups to develop simulation platforms also able to support decisions during crisis. However, a crucial and not adequately investigated aspect in this framework is the qualification of the predictable capabilities of these tools. this paper would start a discussion on how to validate different approaches, and how to asses their predictable capabilities, providing some insights on this strategic and very challenging task.

Cognitive radio with spectrum sensing and spectrum reuse has great opportunities for industrial networking. Adapting to the current interference situation and utilising the available frequencies in an effective manner can greatly improve the data delivery capabilities. At the same time, real-time demands must be met. In this paper, we present a medium access control protocol supporting dynamic spectrum allocation as done in cognitive radio networks, providing deterministic medium access for heterogeneous traffic. the possibility of spectrum sensing in the nodes opens up for the possibility of increasing successful data transmissions, and a real-time analysis framework with three formalized constraints to be tested provides support for guaranteed timely treatment of hard real-time traffic. the real-time analysis framework includes a new type of delay check that more exactly bounds the delay compared to earlier work. simulation experiments and performance comparisons are provided. © 2013 Springer international Publishing.

Mutlicast is an intrinsic communication pattern in emerging applications including the Internet service, bio-inspired computing, online data analysis, etc. Providing hardware multicast largely boosts system performance and reduce power consumption for these applications running on many-core systems. However, many-core systems suffer from dynamically changing topologies, which can be caused by traffic isolation, power management and faults. Links and routers may be removed from a subnet-work or added to a subnet-work, this imposes the routers to alter the routing paths accordingly to make the routing energy efficient. Furthermore an energy efficient multicast scheme that fits to any topology is required in this scenario. Most existing fault tolerant routings cannot detect and found energy efficient communication paths effectively for both unicast and multicast. In this work, a lightweight network couples with on-chip routers is used to propagates topological information. the shortest path between any node pair is also computed in this network using dynamic programming method. Unicast packets are routed along a shortest path to its destination, and multicast packet copies at each router is minimized based a rule called minimal replication to reduce multicast link occupation and energy consumption. simulation results show that the proposed NoC routes 96% packets to their destinations if there exists a path, and demonstrate 40% lower latency and 30% power consumption compared with Stochastic communication. the extra hardware cost to build optimal multicast path is estimated to occupy less than 5% of the total area of a router. this virtual simulation training system is a kind of generation using virtual reality technology, and it is suitable for simulation training virtual environment, it can be a true reproduction of a practical training bases or facilities, can also be a fictional world, the trainees in a virtual environment as the backing, immersed in it, for the corresponding study and training. Mainly from the following basic introduction to Java3D, introduced the system construction and implementation, three-dimensional model of 3D scene building, human-computer interaction aspects, based on the analysis and comparison of domestic and abroad collision detection algorithm, based on the characteristics of the simulation platform of three-dimensional mechanical equipment and put forward a set of collision detection scheme is applicable to such systems.

Since the virtual reality technology has some special characteristics, such as immersion, interaction and imagination etc., which is very suitable to the simulation teaching. In this paper, we integrate VRML, ASP, 3D, JavaScript etc to design and build a virtual laboratory (VL). In VL, considering about the visual, auditory, tactile and other feelings, we adopt the monomer combination model mechanism to simulate the real physical applications. Meanwhile, to improve the interactivity, we utilize the visual interactive method to realize the realistic virtual experiment effect. the VL builds a computer assembling virtual laboratory platform, which changes the traditional teaching pattern and supports students various reusable experiment platform without the constraints of time and place.

It is difficult for all evacuees to behave the smooth evacuation, if they are panicked in occurring some disaster. Such a man-made disaster will increase the damage. Evacuees have to give good influence to the global evacuation behavior by means that they evacuate calmly without preceding personal benefit. So far, a lot of computer simulations, especially using the multi-agent system, or MAS, have tried to clarify the valuable knowledge for the smooth evacuation. We also have made the MAS model on the evacuation behavior. Especially, we have investigated the influence of the mutual concession of the agents on the global evacuation time, which was the time all agents in some space completely evacuated to the outside. As a result, the global evacuation time was minimized when the a, the probability of the concession, was in the range between 0.3 and 0.5. Also, the global evacuation time was decreased more by means of placing obstacles near the exit.

the IEEE Safety, Security, and Rescue Robotics community has created a roadmap for producing unmanned systems that could be adopted by the Public Safety sector within 10 years, given appropriate R&D investment especially in human-robot interaction and perception. the five applications expected to be of highest value to the Public Safety community, highest value first, are: assisting with routine inspection of the critical infrastructure, “chronic emergencies” such as firefighting, hazardous material spills, port inspection, and damage estimation after a disaster. the technical feasibility of the applications were ranked, with the most attractive scenario, infrastructure inspection, rated as the second easiest scenario; this suggests the maturity of robotics technology is beginning to match stakeholder needs. Each of the five applications were discussed in terms of the six broad enabling technology areas specified in the current National Robotics Initiative Roadmap (perception, human-robot interaction, mechanisms, modeling and simulation, control and planning, and testing and evaluation) and nine specific capabilities identified by the community as being essential to commercialization (communication, alerting, localization, fault tolerance, mapping, manpower needs, plug and play capabilities, multiple users, and multiple robots). the community believes that perception and human-robot interaction are the two biggest barriers to adoption, and require more research, given that their low technical maturity (3rd and 6th rank respectively). However, each of the specific capabilities needed for commercialization are being addressed by current research and could be achieved within 10 years with sustained funding.

As technology continues to demand high performance, low power, and integration density, NoC system designers consider multiple aspects during the design phase. this paper addresses these issues and presents an NoC design methodology for generating high quality interconnects for custom Multiprocessor System-on-Chip (MPSoC) architectures. Our design methodology incorporates the main objectives of power and performance during topology synthesis while employing both analytical and simulation based automated techniques. A rendezvous interaction performance analysis method is presented where Layered Queuing Network models are invoked to observe the asynchronous interactions between NoC components and identify possible performance degradation in the on-chip network. Several experiments are conducted using various SoC benchmark applications to compare the power and performance outcomes of our proposed technique. © 2012 IEEE.

Airborne mobile sensor network, which is composed of sensor nodes integrated airborne vehicles, draws the attention of many interesting topics in multifarious areas, such as environmental monitoring, battlefield surveillance or disaster management. In this function specific network, some application based rules should be obeyed completely, such as signal jamming, collision avoiding, formation matching and flock centering. Different principles treat the overall arrangement as dissimilar coverage problems fromdifferent perspectives. In this paper, considering the above factors, we give a modeling under some new restrictions, measure each candidate solution and do a multi-decision making process, thus solving coverage requirement. In the end the simulation proves our mechanism. © 2012 IEEE.
