A fuzzy representation is used which is defined by independent membership functions of geometric distorsion, such as rotation, zoom and deformations due to the complexity of natural objects. this method is applied in two problems :automatic fish sorting and face recognition, where objects are complex for being real-world ones.

A method withthermal Image Processing and Neural Network is presented for recognition official expression. the method Is based on 2-dimensional detection of temperature distribution of face, using Infrared Rays. the front-view face in input image is normalized in terms of the size and the location, followed by measuring the local temperature-difference between the averaged neutral and the unknown expression faces. For measuring the local temperature-difference, several blocks on face are decided, based on the studies in the fields of psychology, especially FACS-AU, and computer vision with visible ray, while the blocks including cheekbone region are decided experimentally for improving the recognition accuracy. the local temperature-difference caused by the rearrangement of face muscle and the inner temperature change is used as input data for Neural Network. By using Back Propagation method, neutral, happy, surprise and sad expressions were recognized with 90% accuracy.

Burt introduced 1983 'equivalent weighting function': "Iterative pyramid generation is equivalent to convolving the image g0 with a set of 'equivalent weighting functions' hl:" gl = hl * g0 = h * gl-1, l > 1. It allowed him to study the effects of iterated reduction (e.g. the low-pass character of Gaussian pyramids) using the single parameter hl without giving up the efficient iterative computation. A similar concept applies to graph pyramids built by dual graph contraction. this new algorithm reduces the number of vertices and of edges of a pair of dual image graphs while, at the same time, the topological relations among the 'surviving' components are preserved. Repeated application produces a stack of successively smaller graphs: a pair of dual irregular pyramids. the process is controlled by selected decimation parameters which consist of a subset of surviving vertices and associated contraction kernels. these play a similar rote for graph pyramids than the convolution kernels of Gaussian pyramids. Equivalent contraction kernels (ECKs) combine two or more contraction kernels into one single contraction kernel which generates the same result in one single dual contraction. the basic concepts are elaborated and discussed. the new theory opens a large variety of possibilities to explore the domain of 'all' graph pyramids.

this paper proposes a new approach to the design of information provision system with more reliance on human capability of situation comprehension and patternrecognition. We presume that human operators of a potentially hazardous artifact are well-trained and motivated enough to manage even the unanticipated events if states of safety-critical components are provided in macroscopic (global) manner with modest rather than detailed accuracy. We also pay more emphasis on provision of information about time-evolution of the events as well as that of component states. We analytically compared the amount and quality of available information withthe conventional display modes based on digital and analog signals allocated to relevant locations of plant's simulated display. through empirical evaluations, we conclude that the proposed scheme is worthwhile to be studied with further expanded scale.

this paper describes a cooperative performance system based on agents. To realize more intimate cooperation, it is necessary for the system to consider the feelings of a user which reflect his personal taste and mental state. We propose a model of cooperation of the agents considering those feelings. In this model, emotional factors of agents are expressed by "mental potential", which is estimated based on the relation between agent's behavior and the situation. the prototype system of creating a musical ensemble was developed for evaluation and it was confirmed that users were adequately satisfied with playing together with agents.
