Explosive growth of surveillance video data presents formidable challenges to its browsing, retrieval and storage. Video synopsis, an innovation proposed by Peleg and his colleagues, is aimed for fast browsing by shortening the video into a synopsis while keeping activities in video captured by a camera. However, the current techniques are offline methods requiring that all the video data be ready for the processing, and are expensive in time and space. In this paper, we propose an online and efficient solution, and its supporting algorithms to overcome the problems. the method adopts an online content-aware approach in a stepwise manner, hence applicable to endless video, with less computational cost. Moreover, we propose a novel tracking method, called sticky tracking, to achieve high-quality visualization. the system can achieve a faster-than-real-time speed with a multi-core CPU implementation. the advantages are demonstrated by extensive experiments with a wide variety of videos. the proposed solution and algorithms could be integrated with surveillance cameras, and impact the way that surveillance videos are recorded.

the large amount of entity data are continuously published on web pages. Extracting these entities automatically for further application is very significant. Rule-based entity extraction method yields promising result, however, it is labor-intensive and hard to be scalable. the paper proposes a web entity extraction method based on entity attribute classification, which can avoid manual annotation of samples. First, web pages are segmented into different blocks by algorithm vision-based Page Segmentation (VIPS), and a binary classifier LibSVM is trained to retrieve the candidate blocks which contain the entity contents. Second, the candidate blocks are partitioned into candidate items, and the classifiers using LibSVM are performed for the attributes annotation of the items and then the annotation results are aggregated into an entity. Results show that the proposed method performs well to extract agricultural supply and demand entities from web pages.

We present a cascaded real-time system that recognizes dance patterns from 3D motion capture data. In a first step, the body trajectory, relative to the motion capture sensor, is matched. In a second step, an angular representation of the skeleton is proposed to make the system invariant to anthropometric differences relative to the body trajectory. Coping with non-uniform speed variations and amplitude discrepancies between dance patterns is achieved via a sequence similarity measure based on Dynamic Time Warping (DTW). A similarity threshold for recognition is automatically determined. Using only one good motion exemplar (baseline) per dance pattern, the recognition system is able to find a matching candidate pattern in a continuous stream of data, without prior segmentation. Experiments show the proposed algorithm reaches a good tradeoff between simplicity, speed and recognition rate. An average recognition rate of 86.8% is obtained in real-time.

this paper presents the design and application of novel device for real time traffic sign detection and recognition on a hardware platform powered by Intel (R) Atom (TM) processor. Image frames from standard and relatively cheap web cameras are processed using OpenCV library [7][2]. An innovative method is proposed for traffic sign detection phase. Two color models are used for image segmentation and detection of traffic sign. Many well-known and described tactics have been tested and rated. Implemented in OpenCV Library functions for patternrecognition method are also used in main algorithm. Experimental results of traffic sign detection and recognition are described. the prototype was implemented as part of the Master thesis at Cracow University of Technology [1].
