this paper explores a framework to permit the creation of modules as part of a robot creation and combat game. We explore preliminary work that offers a design solution to generate and test robots comprised of modular components. this current implementation, which is reliant on a constraint-driven process is then assessed to indicate the expressive range of content it can create and the total number of unique combinations it can establish.

this paper describes initial work into the production of Domain-Specific Language (DSL) from Strategy Patterns. the work is exploring how a DSL can be generated from a specification of an Abstract Strategy and of the data-types and operations that the Abstract Strategy may use. the generated DSL is then be able to specify instances of Concrete Strategies, aiding the implementation by providing a language specifically constructed for the implementation of the Strategies. the method for producing these DSL is described and a case study using patience games as a domain is presented.

One of the major challenges for educators is maintaining focus on the learnt subject and engagement of students. Introducing game elements into the learning process can be an excellent assistance. However, this requires an empirical study to verify the actual outcomes and benefits. this paper presents preliminary results from such a study organized in context of university classes which were specially prepared for this purpose. In addition, an automatic verification platform was designed in order to monitor progress of students and reward them with points for correct solutions. Preliminary results obtained, clearly show that incorporating gamification into didactic process can lead to better results and, which is also important, better reception of the classes by the students.

Evacuating a building in case of emergency can lead to confusion, which in turn can cause a greater risk than the cause of the evacuation. Emergency personnel may be late to give the needed assistance. Robots are more likely to play a key role in recovery efforts. However, many scientific and technical challenges have to be solved in order to achieve the full potential of using robots for search and rescue missions. this paper reviews current technologies that can be used in simulating the evacuation. Different methods are considered for the group behaviour simulation. Existing work on crowd simulation is analysed. Finally, simulators that can support robot models as aid for disaster evacuation and search and rescue missions are discussed.

We asked four subjects to perform the task of pressing a taster button with their thumbs, while their EEG recordings were obtained, in order to determine the probability of the subjects' intention to make the movement in comparison to the idle state. Humans usually spontaneously decide when to initiate movements to complete daily-life tasks, but sometimes our movements can also be externally triggered. thus, the subjects first performed motor tasks at the instants defined by the animation shown on the screen and second, the subjects performed self-initiated movements. In this paper, we study if there is a difference in the classification results and coherence measures of EEG signals in these two paradigms. We used the Support Vector Machine (SVM) classifier on features extracted by applying Burg's algorithm to EEG signals, which arose as a solution with high accuracy.

this paper highlights an experiment to see how standard Monte Carlo Tree Search handles simple co-operative problems with no prior or provided knowledge. these problems are formed from a simple grid world that has a set of goals, doors and buttons as well as walls that cannot be walked through. Two agents have to reach every goal present on the map. For a door to be open, an agent must be present on at least one of the buttons that is linked to it. When laid out correctly, the world requires each agent to do certain things at certain times in order to achieve the goal. With no modification to allow communication between the two agents, Monte Carlo Tress Search performs well and very "purposefully" when given enough computational time.

Document classification is usually more challenging than numerical data classification, because it is much more difficult to effectively represent documents than numerical data for classification purposes. Vector space model (VSM) has been widely used for document representation for classification, in which a document is represented by a vector of feature values based on a bag of words. this paper proposes a new feature for document representation under the VSM framework, class specific document frequency (CSDF), which leads to a novel term weighting scheme based on term frequency (TF), term presence (TP), and the newly proposed feature. the experimental results show that the proposed features, CSDF and TF-CSDF, effectively improve the performance of document classification in comparison with other widely used VSM document representations.

Automation in micro-optical assembly is an emergent, but steadily growing field of research. To advance the optics industry's efforts in this regard, several methods that aid optics engineers with development and deployment of assembly processes have been proposed. However, it is still a non-trivial and time-consuming task to design efficient work orders that consider movement characteristics of integrated robotic assembly systems. In this contribution, we present an approach to combine well-investigated symbolic planning algorithms, semantic modelling techniques and 3D simulation-based virtual commissioning to generate optimized work orders for automated micro-optical assembly and thereby help to overcome the difficulties of manual process design. Our approach is a good example for the efficiency of the eRobotics concept and demonstrates how its systematic application can resolve practical problems with existing approaches. Results indicate that our approach to automated planning is, by enabling a formal definition of quality metrics for action sequences, not only faster but also usually superior to manual generation of work orders.

Brain-computer Interfaces (BCIs) often rely on low-level cognitive processes known to be impaired in late stages of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). We propose a BCI for ALS patients based on self-regulation of neuronal oscillations in the superior parietal lobule, which is less affected by ALS than motor and sensory cortices. We describe a case of self-regulation of band power in gamma range (55-85 Hz) based on feedback from the parietal cortex by an ALS patient, resulting in a mean offline two-class decoding accuracy of 79.2% across four sessions. Despite a good offline decoding accuracy, a source localisation analysis revealed that gamma-power modulation was not spatially localized, suggesting confounding by non-cortical artifacts. theta-power in contrast, showed a strong localized response in the precuneus. As such, this may be an alternative possibility of using self-regulation of neuronal oscillations for cognitive BCI.
