A single-page application is a web application which is retrieved with a single page load, and has become popular recently. In such web applications, real-time interaction is offered by long polling of HTML requests, typically the Comet model. However, such communication between a client and a server is inefficient because of the TCP handshake and HTTP header overhead. In order to improve this kind of inefficiency, WebSocket is proposed as a web technology providing full-duplex communications between web browsers and servers. In this paper, we design and implement a load balancer suitable for Web applications using the WebSocket protocol, which enables us to get improved performance with respect to simultaneous connectability. Usually, load balancers handle TCP packets in the transport layer, or L4, of the network. Our load balancer is designed as a relay in the application layer, or L7, in order to provide a finer distribution of the network load. We implement the load balancer on an event-driven web application framework, ***. Complex multi-cellular organisms are the result of evolution over billions of years. their ability to reproduce and survive through adaptation to selection pressure did not happen suddenly;it required gradual genome evolution that eventually led to an increased emergent complexity. In this paper we investigate the emergence of complexity in cellular machines, using two different evolutionary strategies. the first approach is a conventional genetic algorithm, where the target is the maximum complexity. this is compared to an incremental approach, where complexity is gradually evolved. We show that an incremental methodology could be better suited to help evolution to discover complex emergent behaviors. We also propose the usage of a genome parameter to detect the behavioral regime. the parameter may indicate if the evolving genomes are likely to be able to achieve more complex behaviors, giving information on the evolvability of the system. the experimental model used herein is based on 2-dimensional cellular automata. the objective of this study is to undertake a systematic literature review to determine factors associated with End-User Training (EUT). the review analyzes 52 studies identified for primary studies from academic digital libraries published between 2003 and 2013. the results reveal 77 factors influciencing EUT that can be categorized into seven categories, which are organizational, individual difference, training methods, learning techniques, learning process and interaction, immediated learning outcomes, and long-term learning outcomes. these factors are used to propose a conceptual framework of hybrid self-regulated and collaborative learning for EUT that aims at improving performance of EUT. © Springer international Publishing Switzerland 2013.

advances in information technology depend on the availability of telecommunication, network and mobile technologies. With the rapid increasing number of mobile devices being used as essential terminals or platforms for communication, security threats now target the whole telecommunication infrastructure that includes mobile devices, radio access network, and the core network operated by the mobile operators. In particular, the mobile core network is the most important part of the mobile communication system because different access networks are consolidated at the core network. therefore, any risks associated with the core network would have a significant impact on the mobile network regardless of technologies of access networks are in use. this paper reviews the security risks in the mobile core network for data services by considering the confidentiality, integrity and availability (CIA) aspects, and then relates them to the ITU-T X.805 reference framework. Finally, this paper provides a recommendation on how to address these risks using the ITU-T X.805 reference framework. this paper will benefit mobile operators and network designers looking to secure the mobile packet core system. © Springer international Publishing Switzerland 2013.

Optical Music Recognition (OMR) software currently in the market are not normally designed for music learning and ad hoc interpretation;they usually require scanned input of music scores to perform well. In our work, we aimed to remove this inconvenience by using photos captured by mobile phone's camera as the input. With the cloud-based architecture and the design without the assumption of perfect image orientation and lighting condition, we were able to eliminate many of the software's architectural and algorithmic problems while still maintaining an overall decent performance. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

In the recent years, a new computing model, known as Cloud Computing, has emerged to react to the explosive growth of the number of devices connected to Internet. Cloud Computing is centered on the user and offers an efficient, secure and elastically scalable way of providing and acquiring services. Likewise, Ambient Intelligence (AmI) is also an emerging paradigm based on ubiquitous computing that proposes new ways of interaction between humans and machines, making technology adapt to the users' necessities. One of the most important aspects in AmI is the use of context-aware technologies such as Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) to perceive stimuli from both the users and the environment. In this regard, this paper presents Cloud-IO, a Cloud Computing platform for the fast integration and deployment of services over WSNs. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

A new icon spotting method for designing a user-friendly GUI is described. Here, each icon can represent continuous and discrete vector data which are possibly high-dimensional. An important issue is icon-margin adjustment or uniforming while the relative positioning is maintained. For generating such GUI, multidimensional scaling, kernel principal component analysis (KPCA) and regularization were combined. this method was applied to a set of city locations and a big data set of web-registered job hunter profiles. the former is used to check to see location errors. there were only little mis-allocations. the latter is a set of high dimensional and sparsely discrete-valued big data in the real world. through these experiments, it was recognized that the presented method, which combines multidimensional scaling, KPCA and the regularization, is applicable to a wide class of jammed big data for generating a user-friendly GUI. © Springer international Publishing Switzerland 2013.

Nowadays, VoIP has become the core communications on the internet. One of the crucial applications on VoIP is the automated IVR system that interacts with the user automatically. Speech recognition plays an important role behind this kind of system. this paper studies the effect of codec bit rate and network packet loss on thai speech recognition systems over an IP network. We encoded the speech samples of male, female and artificial voice with various bit rates of Speex codec. the speech sample was sent by RTP through the IP network with packet loss simulation. the speech quality was measured by PESQ and compared to word error rate of speech recognition. the results show that the codec bit rate and level of packet loss have a significant impact on the performance of speech recognition over IP. © Springer international Publishing Switzerland 2013.

Social tagging has become a popular way for users to annotate, search, navigate and discover online social media, resulting in the sheer amount of metadata collectively generated by people. this paper focuses on two tagging problems-(1) recommending the most suitable tags during a user's tagging process and (2) labeling latent tags relevant to a social media item-so that social media can be more browsable, searchable, and shareable by users. the proposed approach employs the Katz measure, a path-ensemble based proximity measure, to predict links in a weighted tripartite graph which represents folksonomy. From a graph-based proximity perspective, our method recommends appropriate tags for a given user-item pair, as well as uncovers hidden tags potentially relevant to a given item. We evaluate our method on real-world folksonomy collected from ***. From our experiments, we show that not only does our algorithm outperform existing algorithms, but it can also obtain significant gains in cold start situations where relatively little information is known about a user or an item. © Springer-Verlag 2013.

We developed a computer vision-based mobile museum guide system named "Navilog". It is a multimedia application for tablet devices. Using Navilog, visitors can take a picture of exhibits, and it identifies the exhibit and it shows additional descriptions and content related to it. It also enables them to log their locations within the museum. We made an experiment in the Railway Museum in Saitama, Japan. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2013.
