Identifying the cells, such as pus and epithelial cells, from microscopic images is one of the important steps in medical diagnostics. Microscopic examination by hand is labor-intensive and unreliable. therefore, it is helpful to have an automated approach for classifying these cells to enable quick and accurate diagnosis. Creating a model for automated cell identification is challenging because of the numerous variable parameters such as various stains and magnifications and cell overlapping. this paper offers a robust object detection model that detects the pus and epithelial cells images obtained from the microscopic analysis of direct samples of Gram-stained patient samples such as pus and sputum. this paper also presents a novel classifier that addresses the overlapping issues present in the cells. the proposed methodology offers an mAP of 0.87 and a classification accuracy of 94.5%. © 2023, the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Nowadays, people are curious about the exercises they do in order to maintain a balanced weight. the proposed paper aims to conduct a comparison of machine learning algorithms to predict the calories burn during a workout or any other exercises in R. To implement this, different machine learning models, including Decision Tree, Simple Linear Regression, and Multiple Linear Regression, Random Forest algorithm, Support Vector Machine (SVM), K-Nearest Neighbor, and XGBoost regressor are taken into consideration. there have been significant efforts to identify research publications that employed many supervised machine learning algorithms for prediction. Additionally, we compared eight research articles based on how accurate their chosen algorithms were, highlighting the best algorithm from them. At last, prediction of calories burnt during some exercise is carried out using the mentioned algorithms and a comparison is made using validation methods. In comparison to other models the XGBoost method, with a Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) score of 0.2965203, has provided the most accurate predictions. © 2023, the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Reconstruction-based approaches attract increasing attention in unsupervised visual anomaly detection. Such methods rely on the assumption that reconstruction models trained using only normal images are not well reconstructed for anomalous data, so that the anomalous regions can be identified by computing the differences in the reconstructions. However, it’s usually challenging to manage the model’s generalization boundaries in practice. the model with a poor generalization capability will produce additional image differences in the normal regions, while the model with an overly strong generalization capability can even well reconstruct the abnormal regions, making the abnormal regions less distinguishable from the normal regions. In this paper, we propose a two-stage reconstruction network to solve the above problems, which can generate high-accuracy and anomaly-free reconstruction. Specifically, our two-stage anomaly detection network consists of the edge extraction sub-network and the image restoration sub-network. the first sub-network generates anomaly-free grayscale edges of the image as intermediate results, and then the second one recovers normal color and low-frequency information for the intermediate results. the proposed network can generate high-accuracy and anomaly-free reconstructions to maximize the difference between the reconstruction errors of normal and abnormal samples, which can ultimately improve the accuracy of anomaly detection. Experiments on the dataset MVTec AD show that our proposed method achieves competitive results in anomaly detection and anomaly localization (97.8% for detection and 97.7% for localization, AUROC). © 2023 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

this paper discusses image enhancement, which involves adjusting captured images to improve their visual quality and suitability for display or analysis using techniques like filtering, histogram equalization, and contrast adjustment. the spatial domain method is used for manipulating image grey levels, and the study analyses the transformed images using BRIQUE, NIQE, and PIQE quality metric descriptors. the study shows that the type of image used for processing depends on the application, and binary images have the highest PIQE score. Power law transformation or Gamma-corrected images can reduce or enhance contrast, depending on the gamma’s value. the transformed images have different scores based on the quality metric used. the study also finds that the sum of the global threshold values of an input image and its inverse is 1, and the scores for binary images using both thresholds are similar. Finally, the study shows that BRISQUE and PIQE scores are higher for gamma and more significant than 1;NIQE scores are similar for both gamma values. © 2023, the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Communication is a significant part of our lives, as it facilitates interaction among individuals. Language serves as a mode of communication for all individuals for expressing their thoughts and interpretations. However, hearing-impaired individuals often face hurdles in using spoken language. the technology for recognizing sign language made a commendable effort to improve communication levels among hearing-impaired individuals. In the current era of deep learning, which is a subset of machine learning, Convolutional Neural Network models have been developed and are now in use for gesture recognition. this recognition is based on the CNN model and VGG-16 model. Federated learning (FL) is a collaborative learning algorithm that builds ML models using knowledge from distributed clients at various locations. Federated learning is valuable when data is collected from heterogeneous environments, and a unifiedML model needs to be built with minimal sharing of data. In this study, a federated irrigation advisory system is developed for an agricultural application that helps the farmer to water their field based on agricultural field parameters. the application of machine learning techniques in the agricultural domain is still in its infancy. Agricultural farms employ different sensors and have natural variations in soil type and environmental conditions. A federated model framework is suitable for the development of an irrigation advisory system as heterogeneous data is gathered using a variety of sensors spread across several farms. FL-based Logistic Regression is designed to predict whether to water the field or not based on the field parameters: temperature, humidity, soil moisture content, number of days since planting the crop, and crop type. Federated learning algorithms are designed with a client-server architecture. Flower, an open-source federated framework, which used to build and test the irrigation advisory application. Two clients and a server are used to build the FL-based Logistic Regression model by exchange of model parameters. Weights and bias of the logistic regression model are aggregated by the server from multiple clients. these aggregated model parameters are sent to clients to build the regression model with its own data. Experiments were conducted to understand the performance of FL in learning the model parameters for prediction. the model’s performance is evaluated using metrics to understand the converge patterns and parameters that affect FL. © IFIP international Federation for Information Processing 2024.

Digitalization is crucial for achieving product quality, cost reduction, and timely delivery in manufacturing. With the rise of Industry 4.0, Digital Twin technology has gained popularity, enabling real-time monitoring, predictive maintenance, process optimization, and assumption testing. Manufacturing Digital Twins utilize digital models to represent physical processes, facilitating continuous simulation, interaction, correction, and optimization for autonomous control. However, implementing Digital Twins can be challenging due to diverse data requirements and multiple services. this paper proposes a scalable, service-oriented multi-layered architecture for developing Digital Twins in mineral processing, which can be adapted to other manufacturing systems. the paper provides an overview of Digital Twins, their data-centric workflow, and industrial applications. Additionally, a case study on implementing a Digital Twin for the froth flotation process in the mining industry is presented based on the proposed architecture. © 2023 ACM.

Our research in Natural Language Processing (NLP) aims to detect hate speech comments specifically targeted at the LGBTQ+ community within the YouTube platform shared task conducted by the LT-EDI workshop1. the dataset provided by the organizers exhibited a high degree of class imbalance, and to mitigate this, we employed NLPAUG, a data augmentation library. We employed several classification methods and reported the results using recall, precision, and F1-score metrics. the classification models discussed in this paper include a Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (BiLSTM) model trained with Word2Vec embeddings, a BiLSTM model trained with Twitter GloVe embeddings, transformer models such as BERT, DistilBERT, RoBERTa, and XLM-RoBERTa, all of which were trained and fine-tuned. We achieved a weighted F1-score of 0.699 on the test data and secured fifth place in task B with 7 classes for the English language. © 2023 LTEDI 2023 - 3rd Workshop on Language technology for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, associated with the 14th international conference on Recent advances in Natural Language Processing, RANLP 2023 - Proceedings.
