Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) belongs to the category of swarm techniques and model based technique which focuses towards the phenomenon of collective behavior of ants. the mechanism has been applied over various disciplines in order to observe scalable and optimal solution. It specifically targets towards the solution of finding good paths over the observed data. the system of ACO can be categorized into rank based, continuous orthogonal and recursive models. the objective of this paper is to develop a predictive model in medical data using ACO with the best classifier that suits over the model. ACO is one of the heuristic methods to solve very general class problems with the mechanism of user given heuristic inputs and fitness evaluation strategy. this work mainly targets towards the development of the model with accordance to classification problem. As a result, the predictive model can be used up over a suggestion for medical experts in the phenomenon of diagnosing the disease with accordance to its risk factors. © 2018 IEEE.

Technological advances are providing the field of positive psychology with new means with which to potentially enhance well-being. Emerging interventions – such as those from psychopharmacology, noninvasive brain stimulation, apps, big-data computational linguistic analysis of social media, and virtual reality – often diverge in various ways from the primarily cognitive and psychosocial interventions more common in the extant positive psychology literature. this paper describes several of these emerging technologies and considers the effects that they may come to have on the science of well-being, and recommends that positive psychology discourse expand to more fully integrate biopsychosocial aspects of well-being. © ICST Institute for computer sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering 2018.

Mobile apps embedded with Augmented Reality (AR) have recently spread among the general public thanks to technological advances, e.g., smartphone with faster processing speed, and the reduction of costs. AR technology has been exploited to enhance the experience of tourists and numerous apps have been experimented. However, it is not free from shortcomings. In the present study we assessed and compared the usability and user experience of two types of devices, namely a head-mounted display (HMD) and a smartphone, enabling environmental exploration with an AR app. We found that participants were equally accurate and fast at accomplishing the three tasks required, i.e., reading a text, reaching a landmark and finding the nearest places. Prior to the test, users had high expectations toward both devices and they were concerned of appearing weird to bystanders while using the HMD. Overall, the differences between the devices leveled out after the actual usage. Furthermore, users surprisingly assigned lower scores of the ease of use to the smartphone at post-test. Together, our findings suggest that the urban exploration is effectively supported by both technologies. © 2018.

Technological advances are substantially changing what we understand as a computer. For Human-computer Interaction (HCI) educators, it is a challenge to stay updated and prepare students to cope with the state of the art technology, interaction possibilities, and ever-growing sociotechnical challenges. We advocate that, besides traditional HCI topics, students should be encouraged to creatively engage and tinker with novel tools and technologies and design for open-ended scenarios. In this paper, we report on results of the InterArt project: HCI students explored tools and technologies from the maker culture to design and implement an interactive artwork. We detail our teaching methodology and the conducted activities;the products of these activities and feedback from students compose our results. Our approach made possible for students to creatively express themselves, be a part of a participatory design and collective sensemaking process, discover and practice socially aware design, and ultimately expand what they understand as HCI.

We introduce FunCushion, a digital fabrication method for customized fluorescent-pattern displays on cloths of cushion interfaces with push detections. the displayed patterns are printed out onto cloths by an inkjet printer with transparent fluorescent ink, and the patterns can interactively be made to glow with an ultraviolet light source embedded inside the cushion. Furthermore, push detection using infrared light can be easily integrated with the display for interaction. the displays are adaptable to 3D shapes, illuminate with multi-color and gradation, and can be integrated with static visual print and embroidery. this method enables end-users and designers to create soft, everyday products with fluorescent-pattern displays in a lab. Technical evaluations revealed effective materials for the display. Application examples demonstrate FunCushion's applicability.

the El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) is the Earth's dominant inter-annual climate fluctuation, often accompanied by extreme weathers. the occurrence of drought, flood, heavy rainfall, hurricanes, extreme cold, and so on, may cause significant crops yield reduction or even no crop. therefore, a timely ENSO forecast is critical to global agricultural production and food safety. the current mainstream ENSO indexes are based on monthly or quarterly data without a strong timeliness. this paper proposes a new ENSO index, named as Daily Niño Index (DNI), to study the ENSO events in daily temporal scale. To the best of our knowledge, there is no previous study defining ENSO events in daily temporal scale. High correlations between NOAA daily Optimum Interpolation Sea Surface Temperature (OISST) data set and some popular monthly Sea Surface Temperature (SST) data sets show the feasibility of using daily data to study ENSO events. Niño 3.4 SST region is selected as the computational domain for DNI in order to maximize the ENSO signal among SST-based indexes to identify the El Niño and La Niña events. Comparisons are made between DNI and some other ENSO forecast indexes. Experiment results illustrate that DNI is highly correlated with other indexes and advances the forecast time two to three months earlier. © 2018 IEEE.

India has more than a quarter of the world's 36 million blind people. Educating the blind to avoid unemployment among their population is one of the most challenging problems faced by blind schools today. Although many schools resort to the use of Braille to eradicate illiteracy among them, its steep learning curve, insufficient availability and high cost makes it quite unapproachable. Braille Literacy Statistics in India indicate that out of the 12 million blind people in the country, less than 10 percent learn Braille. It is evident that one of the most crucial issues faced by the blind and the visually impaired is the inability to read and learn without the use of Braille. In order to overcome this issue, there is a need to develop a system that can assist the visually impaired in reading. Hence, the proposed solution is to design an inexpensive wearable device that uses computer vision to read out any form of text around the user in various alignments and lighting conditions. the system makes use of a Raspberry Pi with a compatible camera to capture the content around the visually impaired or blind person and reads it out to them in a regional language. A sensor is also incorporated to notify the user of the distance to the nearest object at his eye level and the device enumerates various objects in its sight. the system is based on the combination of image processing, machine learning and speech synthesis techniques. the observed accuracy combining both the optical character recognition and the object recognition algorithms was found to be 84%.

Increase in student mobility is one of the objectives of the European Union (EU) and many other countries of the world. this mobility is meant to increase the ability and flexibility to acquire knowledge and skills by students, get them used to the freedom of movement of people and services, and educate them in the area of international and multicultural cooperation. the EU, through a number of programmes (especially those grouped in Erasmus+), supports such mobility organisationally and financially. the article presents the results of research among students of computer science (CS), aimed at detecting their perception of the opportunity to participate in a one-semester international academic mobility, i.e. to study abroad for one semester. the survey covered almost all undergraduate CS students of the Lublin University of technology at their fifth semester, when they take decisions to apply to go abroad for one semester. We analysed their overall assessment of this type of travel, the level of the perceived usefulness of the experience, the concerns and risks associated with it and the students' interest. Some elements of the research were differentiated for Polish and foreign students. the results of the tests are not conclusive, because despite the generally positive perception of the programme, a relatively small percentage of students declare their willingness to take part in it.

Domain-Specific Modeling (DSM) has shown its effectiveness of improving software productivity in many software domains [1], where Domain Specific Language (DSL) plays a key role. Also in the domain of video games, researchers have proposed various DSLs for developing different aspects of several game genres. this paper presents a DSL named RAIL for generating Non-Playable Character (NPC) behaviors in Action/Adventure Games. Our DSL borrows concepts from State Machines and adds some features to better suit the target domain. Further, we have implemented a tool-chain for RAIL using the Eclipse language workbench, and the tool-chain has been integrated with the level editor of the Torque2D game engine. To evaluate the DSL, we developed a prototype game and collected data regarding the development time and code lines. the results showed that RAIL significantly improves the productivity of developing NPC behaviors in the target game with a reasonable associated cost. In addition, the integration of the RAIL and the Torque 2D tool-chains provides a smooth development workflow.

In the period of software improvement, programming dependability expectation turned out to be exceptionally critical for creating nature of programming in the product business. Time to time, numerous product dependability models have been introduced for evaluating unwavering quality of programming in programming forecast models. However, building precise forecast model is hard because of intermittent changes in information in the space of programming designing. As needs be, we propose a novel procedure, i.e. spiking neural system to anticipate programming unwavering quality. the key goal of this paper is to exhibit another approach which upgrades the exactness of programming unwavering quality prescient models when utilized with the product disappointment dataset. the viability of quality of a product is exhibited on dataset taken from the literature, where execution is measured by utilizing normalized root mean square error (NRMSE) obtained in the test dataset. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2018.
