the advent of social networking has given rise to the huge data processing in terms of image and video streams. this, in turn, increased the use of cloud computing services by the users. Secure data storage and access are the main challenges in front of the cloud scenario. this paper reports a novel method of multimedia data security in the cloud paradigm. the proposed method watermarks and compresses the data before its storage in the cloud. this approach not only safeguards the data storage but also reduces the storage requirement and allied monitory overheads. the simulation result shows a 7 and 36% use of CPU and memory capacity, which overrules the additional hardware requirement for the proposed module in the cloud paradigm. © Springer science+Business Media Singapore 2016.

Quantitative analysis of lateral sigmatism is a challenge for contemporary speech therapy. In the paper a prototype of an acquisition device for voice and lateral air flow registration is described. the proposed acoustic mask enables for registration of signal from 7 microphones placed in different positions in the area around the mouth. Tests considering air flows directed centrally and laterally have been conducted. Artificially generated air streams and lateral speech utterances have been considered. Energy distribution analysis has been performed to distinguish the direction of the interferences. the results confirm that the acoustic mask may be used in diagnosis and speech therapy of lateral sigmatism.

Risk assessment in grid computing is an important issue as grid is a shared environment with diverse resources spread across several administrative domains. therefore, by assessing risk in grid computing, we can analyze possible risks for the growing consumption of computational resources of an organization and thus we can improve the organization’s computation effectiveness. In this paper, we used a function approximation tool, namely, flexible neural tree for risk prediction and risk (factors) identification. Flexible neural tree is a feed forward neural network model, where network architecture was evolved like a tree. Our comprehensive experiment finds score for each risk factor in grid computing together with a general tree-based model for predicting risk. We used an ensemble of prediction models to achieve generalization. © Springer international Publishing Switzerland 2016.

In this work we are interested in the modelling and control of opinion dynamics spreading on a time evolving network with scalefree asymptotic degree distribution. the mathematical model is formulated as a coupling of an opinion alignment system with a probabilistic description of the network. the optimal control problem aims at forcing consensus over the network, to this goal a control strategy based on the degree of connection of each agent has been designed. A numerical method based on a model predictive strategy is then developed and different numerical tests are reported. the results show that in this way it is possible to drive the overall opinion toward a desired state even if we control only a suitable fraction of the nodes. © IFIP international Federation for Information Processing 2016.

Microfluidics is an interdisciplinary science focusing on the development of devices and systems that process low volumes of fluid for applications such as high throughput DNA sequencing, immunoassays, and entire Labs-on-Chip platforms. Microfluidic diagnostic technology enables these advances by facilitating the miniaturization and integration of complex biochemical processing through a microfluidic biochip [1]. this approach tightly couples the biochemical operations, sensing system, control algorithm, and droplet-based biochip. During the process the status of a droplet is monitored in real-time to detect operational errors. If an error has occurred, the control algorithm dynamically reconfigures to allow recovery and rescheduling of on-chip operations. During this recovery procedure the droplet that is the source of the error is discarded to prevent the propagation of the error and the operation is repeated. threats to the operation of the microfluidics biochip include (1) integrity: an attack can modify control electrodes to corrupt the diagnosis, and (2) privacy: what can a user/operator deduce about the diagnosis? It is challenging to describe both these aspects using existing models;as Figure 1 depicts there are multiple security domains, Unidirectional information flows shown in black indicate undesirable flows, the bidirectional black arrows indicate desirable, but possibly corrupted, information flows, and the unidirectional red arrows indicate undesirable information flows. As with Stuxnet, a bidirectional, deducible information flow is needed between the monitoring security domain and internal security domain (biochip) [2]. Simultaneously, the attacker and the operators should receive a nondeducible information flow. Likewise, the red attack arrows should be deducible to the internal domain. Researchers often collect a number of dependent measures in a study, each of which may reflect some aspect of overall performance. In psychology, in particular response time and accuracy are frequently used measures. Trade-offs between speed and accuracy are often observed, and can occur between other measures. How should overall performance be characterized in the presence of trade-offs? In this paper, we consider how multiple measures can be combined into a single, overall measure of performance. We consider two different case studies, one involving speed and accuracy, and the other involving the relationship between sampling of visual information and resulting accuracy in a pedal-tracking task. We define a global measure of performance using summated z-scores. We discuss the behavior of this measure and contrast it with other approaches to creating linear combinations of variables. Experimentation is an invaluable part of learning in all sciences. However, building and maintaining laboratories is expensive, time and space consuming. Moreover, in computer science advances in technology can quickly make the infrastructure obsolete. In this paper we advocate the use of recently deployed public testbeds as remote labs for computer science education. As an example we describe the successful use of the GENI testbed in graduate and undergraduate courses and present a specific case study of GENI being used in an undergraduate class on Network Management and Intelligent Networks.

Traditional modeling approaches and information systems assume static entities that represent all information and attributes at once. However, due to the evolution of information systems to increasingly context-aware and self-adaptive systems, this assumption no longer holds. To cope with the required flexibility, the role concept was introduced. Although researchers have proposed several role modeling approaches, they usually neglect the contextual characteristics of roles and their representation in database management systems. Unfortunately, these systems do not rely on a conceptual model of an information system, rather they model this information by their own means leading to transformation and maintenance overhead. So far, the challenges posed by dynamic complex entities, their first class implementation, and their contextual characteristics lack detailed investigations in the area of database management systems. Hence, this paper, presents an approach that ties a conceptual role-based data model and its database implementation together, to directly represent the information modeled conceptually inside a database management system. In particular, we propose a formal database model to describe roles and their contextual information in compartments. Moreover, to provide a context-dependent role-based database interface, we extend RSQL by compartments. Finally, we introduce RSQL Result Net to preserve the contextual role semantics as well as enable users and applications to both iterate and navigate over results produced by RSQL. In sum, these means allow for a coherent design of more dynamic, complex software systems. © Springer international Publishing Switzerland 2016.
