In recent decades, advances in research and hardware have significantly improved the quality of augmented reality applications. However, efforts of combining real illumination and virtual illumination have made little progress thus far [1, 2, 3]. In this paper, we propose the position estimation of multiple light sources using a specular reflective sphere placed in front of a camera for relighting in augmented reality applications. For position estimation, we take images to estimate light directions, and then, we estimate the positions of light sources in real time using a sequence of images taken by moving the camera. Our method improves illuminant integration, as more accurate shadows of virtual objects are obtained in comparison with the traditional methods of light source estimation [4, 5, 6, 7]. Further, we obtain not only the direction but also the position of light sources. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2015.

Mechanisms promoting the evolution of cooperation in two-player, two-strategy evolutionary games have been discussed in great detail over the past decades. Understanding the effects of repeated interactions in multi-player social dilemma game is a formidable challenge. this paper presents and investigates the application of co-evolutionary training techniques based on discrete particle swarm optimization (PSO) to evolve cooperation for the n-player iterated prisoner’s dilemma (IPD) game and n-player iterated snowdrift game (ISD) in spatial environment. Our simulation experiments reveal that, the length of history record, the cost-to-benefit ratio and group size are important factors in determining the cooperation ratio in repeated interactions. © Springer international Publishing Switzerland 2015.

Recently, most meter reading system are only applied to the LAN and not convenient in the real-time monitoring instrument for users. In addition, abnormal phenomenon of meter, such as drops and leakage, can't be found in time. It not only brings economic losses to the user, but also is a waste of resources. this article describes the research of remote intelligent meter reading software, which takes advantage of Bessel curve to display dynamically real time data and supports monitor operation of instrument. the software solves the limitation problem of LAN monitoring, and promotes the information construction of the community and advances the development of smart city in a sense.

Rigorous simulation is a new technology that can play a key role in managing uncertainty in the design of safety-critical cyber-physical systems. One of its important applications is the analysis and evaluation of functional safety for road vehicles according to international standards such as ISO 26262. Previous work presented preliminary evidence to support the feasibility of using rigorous simulation for this purpose. Here we report on advances in our implementation of rigorous simulation and show how they enable the rigorous simulation of more refined and more complete models. A larger case study highlights the benefits of these advances and helps us identify new challenges that should be addressed by future work.

Integer signedness error can be exploited by attackers to cause severe damages to computer systems. Despite of the significant advances in automating the detection of integer signedness errors, accurately differentiating exploitable and harmful signedness errors from unharmful ones still remains an open problem. In this paper, we present the design and implementation of SignFlow, an instrumentation-based integer signedness error detector to reduce the reports for unharmful signedness errors without sacrificing the completeness (i.e. no false negatives). SignFlow utilizes static data flow analysis to identify unharmful integer signedness conversions from the view of where the operands originate and whether the data after conversions can propagate to security-related operations, and then inserts security checks for the remaining conversions so as to accomplish runtime protection. We evaluated SignFlow on 7 real-world harmful integer signedness bugs, SPECint 2006 benchmarks together with 5 real-world applications. Experimental results show that SignFlow successfully detected all harmful integer signedness bugs and achieved a reduction of 41% in false positives over IntFlow, the state-of-the-art signedness error detector.

Brain computer Interface (BCI) technology has achieved limited success outside of laboratory conditions. this technology is hindered by practical considerations of set up, lack of robustness and low Information Transfer Rate (ITR). there are two interfaces in a BCI system: the brain's interface with the computer and the computer-environment interface, which provides access to applications for the user. three user services were implemented: control of the smart home, entertainment and communication. these may be accessed through a graphical user interface controlled by a BCI. the paper contrasts the performance of an SSVEP based system with a hybrid BCI comprising eye gaze and muscle response (measured at the scalp). the hybrid developed utilizes the EPOC for recording electrical potential and an EyeTribe gaze tracker;these can be combined to provide more robust interaction with applications. Average ITR for the eye tracker and hybrid approaches (190-200 bpm) are higher than for our SSVEP approach (approx. 15 bpm), for the same applications. the poor performance of our SSVEP system was due to the temporal duration of the stimulation (7s) and partly because not all participants could achieve an accuracy of greater than 50%. the current challenge is the replacement of the scalp recorded muscle component with a reliable user modifiable EEG measure.

User authentication is an important technology for E-commerce, especially when it is done by using smart cards. Authentication schemes based on smart cards can guarantee that a user using the smart card is legal and has the authorization to access resources (eg., a bank account or a remote server) behind the smart card. Due to its usefulness, authentication schemes based on smart cards have been widely researched in recent years. In 2014, Choi introduced a security enhanced anonymous multi-server authenticated key agreement scheme using smart card and biometrics. Kuo et. al recently found that Choi’s scheme is insecure against card losing attack and made an improvement to deal with the problem. However, in this paper, we will show that Kuo et. al’s new scheme made the situation even worse. In their new scheme, any server having communicated with and received information from a card of a user can impersonate the user and enjoy the service (eg., on-line shopping) from the server on behalf of the original user without the card on-hand. We conduct a detailed analysis of flaws in their scheme in the hope that no similar mistakes are made in the future. It is a known fact that development of models on the design stage of a product, constitutes a highly important stage proving early evidence of error absence for the proposed artifact. Meanwhile, advances in the embedded systems domain push for rapid architecture product changes based on current state-of-the-art solutions. Multicore systems have exhibit enormous benefits due to parallelization of task execution, increasing availability of resources in multiple domains such as the automotive and telecommunication. Such a premise creates the need to invest into new verification methodologies that will re-assure the safe and efficient transition of new solutions like multicores, especially in the demanding aerospace world. In this paper we describe current challenges and trends on the development of safe and efficient methods for power controllers’ verification in multicore-based hardware platforms, such as motor-drive applications. We outline current industrial practices and describe common toolsets, workflows and techniques used in the aerospace domain. then our discussion focus on formal verification techniques that could provide efficient solutions for verifying power control algorithms in aerospace applications. We conclude with remarks about an ongoing verification effort for power control of a multicore-based motor drive towards producing certification evidence. © Springer international Publishing Switzerland 2015.

Despite recent advances in uncovering the quantitative features of human activities in routine life, human call behavior in earthquake is still less clear. Taking the data of mobile phone records produced by the users in 3 days in the northwest of China, we systematically analyze the characteristics of mobile phone call patterns to earthquake by using ratio analysis and degree distribution method. We find that as a whole, earthquake brings about the significant growth in the indices of data volume, phone volume, duration, distant call volume and local call volume, etc. And the duration of the calls has a significant increase than that of the number of the calls. From the temporal perspective, we discover that at the first 2 hours that earthquake took place, people tend to make much more local calls rather than distant calls. However, unlike the local call, the big volume of distant calls last a whole day except for 3 hours in the afternoon. More interesting, although there is the biggest data volume and phone volume in the day that earthquake happened, only those who contact less than 10 phone number dominate the biggest data volume and phone volume. this demonstrates the pattern difference between the business calls and the private calls. the in-depth understanding of human behavior in emergency help us understand many complex socio-economic phenomena, and find applications in public opinion monitoring, disease control, transportation system design, calling center services, and information recommendation.

the developments in wireless sensor networks, mobile technology and cloud computing have been pushing forward the concept of intelligent or smart cities, and each day smarter infrastructures are being developed with the aim of enhancing the well-being of citizens. these advances in technology can provide considerable benefits for the diverse components of smart cities including smart health which can be seen as the facet of smart cities dedicated to healthcare. A considerable defy that stills requiring appropriate responses is the development of mechanisms to detect health issues in patients from the very beginning. In this work, we propose a novel solution for indoor patient monitoring for medical purposes. the output of our solution will consist of a report containing the patterns of room occupation by the patient inside her/his home during a certain period of time. this report will allow health care professionals to detect changes on the behavior of the patient that can be interpreted as early signs of any health related issue. the proposed solution was implemented in an Android smartphone and tested in a real scenario. To assess our solution, 400 measurements divided into 10 experiments were performed, reaching a total of 391 correct detections which corresponds to an average effectiveness of 97.75%.
