Recently, international crude oil prices remain high, which are around 100 USD for one barrel. the economic impact under the high oil prices may become the most anticipated issue. Due to the double up of both gasoline and electric recently, the reasonable prices of domestic gasoline become universal lively discussion topic. the paper uses the sorting gasoline weighting obtained from grey relational analysis to be compared with Taiwan's neighboring countries and decides whether the gasoline prices in Taiwan are reasonable or not. First, the data of 92 unleaded gasoline prices, international crude oil prices as well as the national income in Taiwan and neighboring countries in 2008 are used in grey relational analysis. It is to discuss the reasonable prices of the gasoline in Taiwan and neighboring countries. the results show that the gasoline prices in Taiwan are a bit higher. they are a little higher than the gasoline prices in Japan and Singapore, but they are much higher than the gasoline prices in Korea. After the analysis, it is found that there is still falling space in Taiwan's gasoline prices. Also, the declining of the gasoline prices can slow down people's grievances caused by inflation and stabilize the domestic economy.

the key algorithm in JPEG2000 image compression system is embedded block coding with optimized truncation (EBCOT). the EBCOT scheme consists of a bit-plane coder coupled with a MQ arithmetic coder. Recently, the bit-plane coding can generate more than one symbol per clock cycle. Consequently, the coding speed is limited and bottlenecked at the interface between the output of the bit-plane coding and the input of the MQ arithmetic coder. Moreover, an efficient designed architecture for MQ arithmetic coder should compromise between processing speed and hardware cost. therefore, a single symbol processor for arithmetic coder architecture implemented on FPGA is proposed in this paper, since it offers high throughput but requires low hardware cost. the proposed architecture is separated into 2 pipelined stages to break down the whole task into smaller subtasks, which leads to great reduction in the critical path. Consequently, it demonstrates no stall, high clock speed and high throughput in the encoding process. these benefits are achieved with the suitable hardware design, pipelining technique, pre-calculation, and prediction process. As a result, the coding speed can be at least 188.99 MHz with the throughput of 188.99 MCxD/S.

the global population of people aged 60 years and older is growing rapidly. In the UK, there are currently around 10 million people aged 65 and over, and the number is projected to rise by 50% in the next 20 years (RNIB, 2013). While ongoing advances in information technology (IT) are undoubtedly increasing the scope for IT to enhance and support older adults' daily living, the digital divide between older and younger adults -- 43% of people below the age of 55 own and use a smartphone, compared to only 3% of people aged 65 and over (AgeUK, 2013) -- raises concerns about the suitability of technological solutions for older adults, especially for older adults with impairments. Evidence suggests that sympathetic design of mobile technology does render it useful and acceptable to older adults: the key issue is, however, how best to achieve such sympathetic design when working with impaired older adults. We report here on a case study in order to outline the practicalities and highlight the benefits of participatory research for the design of sympathetic technology for (and importantly with) older adults with impairments.

In present days, home devices with network capabilities are widely used and augmented for delivering several Home Services (HS) to more end users. this technology increases user experiences in sharing services by accessing services locally, remotely or visiting other user services. the interesting research problem is how to organize the service sharing reliably and effectively while the service cost and speed are still acceptable. We focus on Structured Peer to Peer (P2P) network architecture in comparison with other two types of P2P architecture, namely Centralized P2P and Pure P2P. the comparison is presented in terms of signaling overhead and service specifications. We have previously studied the Centralized P2P and Pure P2P network architecture for HS but never Structured P2P. the Structured P2P uses Distributed Hash Table (DHT) to quickly lookup and route shared services in an overlay network. In this paper, we propose to use RELOAD (REsource LOcation And Discovery Base Protocol) which provides an abstract storage in the P2P overlay, as network architecture for managing HS sharing in the decentralized way. Our evaluation results reveal that HS sharing using RELOAD offers several advantages and the architecture is suitable for our case study, the weather report service sharing.

Based on the complexity and importance of finishing mill group of hot strip mill, the paper develops a version of real-time simulation system about 7-stand tandem hot rolling mill. this simulation system is used to simulate the rolling process. In order to meet real need, the real-time simulation would be realized through the use of Power PC high-speed chips, whose aims are to pursue maximize imitating the substantial problems, to guide the production online, offline debug, establish and optimize the mathematical models in the rolling process, to guide system design, and so on.

With the development of technology, people almost have solved the problems caused by low-frequency vibration in the mechanical field. However, the problems caused by the high frequency vibration are not solved at present. Hence, the paper is based on the consideration of high frequency vibration impact factors, and it uses the GM(h,N) model in the grey system theory to identify the degree of impact factors of panel-beam coupling structure. through pasting the mass onto panel-beam coupling structure randomly, it changes the structure of body mass, rigid and damping size. Also, according to the test, it adjusts the simulation model to ensure the correctness of the simulation model. In the simulation software Autosea2, it changes the parameters of mass, stuff and damping randomly, and it reaches the response values of the system. Next, the GM(h,N) method in the grey system theory is used to calculate the weighting of each influence factor. the results show that damping loss factor of the framework has greater influence on high frequency vibration response values, followed by damping loss factor of the panel, and tensile modulus has the least influence. It can be concluded that during the process of making and using panel-beam coupling, the main focus is to consider the properties of the materials based on resolving connection problems. We try to control the damping loss factor changes in different connecting ways to reduce the impact of the structure. the reached conclusion can be the reference to other relevant panel-beam coupling high frequency vibration.

Radiation therapy is a major modality of cancer treatment. To achieve good local control, high radiation dose must be precisely focused to the target region. A geometric missing during radiotherapy could result in tumor regrowth or severe damage of the neighboring normal tissues. To prevent geometric missing, a real-time monitoring the patient movement becomes very important. Using image or infrared technology to detect the displacement has been proposed. However, Promoting the current detection efficiency is too poor to fulfill clinical requirement due to the low resolution of pixels and slow complex calculation. 512512× To overcome these problems, this study proposed ScanNet algorithm to monitor the patient breathing, cough, or other movement. ScanNet algorithm could detect 1 mm shift under the resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels in real-time and to meet the quality requirement of modern radiotherapy for monitoring displacement.

Recent advances in computer and robotic technology are enabling the application of such technology in assisting traditional intervention in developmental disorders such as autism spectrum disorders (ASD). A number of research studies indicate that many children with ASD prefer technology and this preference can be explored to develop systems that may alleviate several challenges of traditional treatment and intervention. the current work proposes to develop an adaptive virtual reality-based social interaction platform for children with ASD. It is hypothesized that endowing a technological system that can detect the feeling and state of the child and adapt its interaction accordingly is of great importance in assisting and individualization of traditional intervention approaches. the proposed system employs sensors such as eye trackers and physiological signal monitors and models the context relevant psychological state of the user from combination of these sensors together with the performance of the participant. © 2013 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

the field of Augmented Cognition (AugCog) has evolved over the past decade from its origins in the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA)-funded research program, emphasizing modulation of closed-loop human-computer interactions within operational environments, to address a broader scope of domains, contexts, and science and technology (S&T) challenges. Among these are challenges related to the underlying theoretical and empirical research questions, as well as the application of advances in the field within contexts such as training and education. this paper summarizes a series of ongoing research and development (R&D) efforts aimed at applying an AugCog-inspired framework to enhance both human-technology and human-human interactions within a variety of training and operational domains. © 2013 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

Ongoing advances in small-screen equipments and modeling counterpart, together with the currently available location awareness and improvements in wireless technologies, can be instrumental for effectively delivering textural, 2D and 3D information to mobile devices and the other media. the work described here deals with two particular aspects that contribute to visualise architectural models delivered to portable devices and represent in a paper-based format. First of all, the issues involved in this study is probing into the perception and understanding of users while visualising different representations on portable and paper-based formats. Secondly, the outcome reported in this paper is concerned with the applications and effects of the prototype design in the both formats. this study presents a set of elements that contribute to the delivery of the related representations and information to different media. © 2013 IADIS.
