Data streams have become pervasive and data production rates are increasing exponentially, driven by advances in technology, for example the proliferation of sensors, smart phones, and their applications. this fact effectuates an unprecedented opportunity to build real-time monitoring and analytics applications, which when used collaboratively and interactively, will provide insights to every aspect of our environment, both in the business and scientific domains. In our previous work, we have identified the need for workflow management systems which are capable of orchestrating the processing of multiple heterogeneous data streams, while enabling their users to interact collaboratively withthe workflows in real time. In this paper, we describe CONFLuEnCE (CONtinuous workFLow ExeCution Engine), which is an implementation of our continuous workflow model. CONFLuEnCE is built on top of Kepler, an existing workflow management system, by fusing stream semantics and stream processing methods as another computational domain. Furthermore, we explicate our experiences in designing and implementing real-life business and scientific continuous workflow monitoring applications, which attest to the ease of use and applicability of our system.

Ridgelet transform has gained its popularity due to its capability in dealing with line singularities effectively at several levels of detail. this paper presents a novel approach for describing shapes based on Ridgelet transform. We propose a new implementation of the transformation called Invariant Generalised Ridgelet transform, which is invariant to rotation, scaling, and translation (RST) as well as able to handle images of arbitrary size. We introduce the implementation of Ridgelet transform on the ellipse containing the shape and the normalisation of the Radon transform. the 1D Wavelet transform is then applied to the Radon slices. In order to extract rotation invariant feature, Fourier transform is implemented in the Ridgelet domain. We test the new method on a standard MPEG-7 CE-1 B dataset in terms of precision and recall. From the experiments, it is shown that retrieval effectiveness has been significantly improved by 83.12%.

there is a widely recognized need for rigorous quantitative performance assessment in many topics within computer vision, which leads to the adoption of appropriate figures of merit, image datasets, and benchmarks (e.g., in the form of ground truth). In this paper, we present a quantitative evaluation of different approaches for the salient regions detection task using different public image datasets and figures of merit. We briefly describe the suitability of the preselected datasets and the candidate figures of merit - recall, precision, F1 and area of overlap - in the context of the current task. Finally, the results of experiments using the salient region detection algorithms and different datasets are presented and commented. From the obtained data, we suggest one most adequate dataset and discuss why the current figures of merit, although acceptable and suitable for the task, are not ideal.

A chatbot is a program which can chat in natural language, on a topic built into the chatbot's internal knowledge model. Many chatbots exist, with different knowledge-bases programmed by the chatbot builders. We have built a system to convert a website text (corpus) to a chatbot knowledge-base format. In this paper the chatbot is used as a question answer interface, where TRE09 QA track is used to automatically retrain the chatbot knowledge-base. Evaluation shows promising results, 2/3 of generated answers were correct. We aim to see how to improve the algorithm for building the knowledge base before comparing this tool with other natural language interfaces.
