Because of the rapid development of information and communication technology and the growing availability of broadband connections, the demand for e-learning webcast systems is increasing. What is required is a simple and natural way to record and present lectures, allowing for both live streams and archived copies to be produced without additional post-production. this paper presents our plan for and realization of a lecturer-friendly mobile webcast system (vELAP), which puts a particular emphasis on accessibility, taking people with disabilities into particular account. We also describe hardware and software solutions which allow for the automated and simultaneous recording of video and audio while including presentation slides, subtitles and tables of topics. Additionally, the vELAP system offers deaf and hard of hearing persons the option of viewing videos of sign language interpreters, while blind and weak-sighted students can access audio subtitles, text enlargements and colour corrections.

the deployment of sensor networks in an aquatic environment has been severely limited because of the unpredictable nature of the underwater environment. Building a low-cost, energy and resource efficient Underwater Wireless Sensor Network (UWSN) will open new vistas in the areas of ocean, river and lake monitoring and exploration. In this paper we present a novel architecture for a hypothetical UWSN that could be deployed in the Bay-of-Bengal. this UWSN is an N-tier model with sensor nodes deployed at varying depths along the ocean column. the network can be re-configured based on the deployment scenario and the application. this paper also discusses various issues involved in developing a cross-layer protocol for the architecture proposed.

Virtual campuses are gradually becoming a reality withthe advances in e-learning and Web technologies, distributed systems and broadband communication, as well as the emerging needs of remote Universities for collaboration on offering common programs. the advances in grid-based distributed infrastructures have further significantly contributed to this fact providing optimized and real-time system performance and support for virtual communities even under synchronous distributed multi-user usage contexts executing complex simulations in virtual lab applications. this paper focuses on realizing fundamental rich-media e-learning services for synchronous shared and interactive virtual labs offerings and asynchronous personalized learning paradigms towards enabling virtual campuses in a reallife context. the paper further presents evaluation results of the developed e-learning services on both learning and usability aspects in real-life learning contexts involving participation of student communities from remote collaborating Universities. the evaluation results showcase the interest of learning communities in such systems as they evolve to be more advanced and userfriendly and their impact in realizing virtual campuses.

AprioriBL targets the borderline cases of frequent itemsets;however, it performs poorly. Our new algorithm, AprioriBLT, considers only the borderline cases for generating itemsets. this increases performance at the cost of accuracy. In order to improve these internal processes, it is necessary to support the needs of the university faculty and staff and such needs are mainly concerned with collaboration. An environment called LECO has been created in order to support the collaborative requirements of the Information, Multimedia and Telecommunication Studies department (IMTS) of the UOC. Providing pedagogical interventions under uncertainty has always been a challenge for decision-theoretic Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITSs). Studies have shown that apart from the challenges in structuring the domain problem, the issue of how and when to intervene contributes to the usefulness and overall performance of a decision-theoretic ITS. In this study, two Dynamic Decision Network (DDN) models were proposed: 'intervening' and 'non-intervening'. Field tests, which involved 31 learners and 6 domain experts, were conducted to identify the models classification accuracies. the empirical results showed that the 'non-intervening' outperformed the 'intervening', implying that the 'non-intervening' approach for designing pedagogical interventions is more appropriate for INQPRO, a scientific inquiry learning environment developed within this research work.

In the paper the new possibilities for constructing and developing a new class of Cognitive Vision Systems, describing the semantic interpretations of medical images will be presented. Discussed in detail are methods of syntactic computational intelligence to the development of a semantic description for some medical visualizations with particular attention to the leg bones images. the presented methodology makes possible to find, for analysed structure, its semantic description and allow to formulate a semantic meaning of visible deformation, injury or pathology. Presented approach shows that artificial intelligence methods based on mathematical linguistic formalism can be used to develop new classes of intelligent information systems i.e. cognitive vision systems dedicated to perform semantic analysis of medical images.
