We developed an integrative spiking neuron framework to study motor learning and control across multiple levels of biological organisations from synaptic learning rules via neural populations and muscles to an arm's movements. Our framework is designed to simulate reward-based motor learning processes by using identified cellular learning mechanisms (neuromodulation) and enable linking these to findings in human and primate motor learning experiments involving reaching movements. the key learning mechanisms are Actor/Critic reward-based learning and STDP synaptic plasticity rules. We simulate and study learning of planar reaching movements, where motor neuron activities drive Hill-type muscle models which mechanically translate forces into movements via a physics simulator. Our simulated brain is trained and tested in a reaching task with unknown dynamics following a psychophysics protocol. the framework is capable of learning the task and we can directly access the output of neuronal populations (e.g. M1, S1, VTA) as well as EMG-equivalent muscle activations, arm reaching trajectories and sensory feedback before, during and after motor learning. Our ability to simulate and explain motor learning across the levels of neural activity as well as psychophysics experiments will be useful in linking human motor learning experiments to their neuronal correlates. this system can thus provide incisive in silico proof-of-principle tests for understanding invasive approaches Brain-Computer-Interfaces and Neuroprosthetics.

this paper investigates the potential of Artificial Immune systems (AIS) in solving the channel allocation problem in wireless communication. the main objective is to find the minimum number of channels to satisfy the demands of a network without violating any given constraints. the proposed methodology is applied to new datasets which were generated based on user requirements. these new datasets consist of two hundred problem instances, which vary from easy and small to complex and difficult problem settings. Comparisons with other methods, i.e. randomized-based heuristic and Genetic Algorithm, are carried out to evaluate the performance of the AIS on this problem. AIS is shown to be an efficient methodology for this problem.

this paper presents the tuning of PID control parameters for position feedback control of motor and the position reference design for grasping task by a 7-degree of freedom (DOF) three-fingered robotic hand. the system of the robotic hand consists of DC-motors, magnetic encoder and a motion controller unit. the robotic hand has three fingers where each finger has two joints and two links made of perspective plastic material. the PID tuning is implemented to all six motors that are used to move all joints of the three fingers. Trial and error method is used for tuning the parameter of PID control to improve the transient response performance of the motors. For the position reference design, a set of position data is identified to produce the grasping trajectory for all finger joints. the trajectory for the robotic hand performs two types of finger configuration for grasping two different shapes of household solid objects. Both works were implemented via programming in Motion Manager Application. It has been observed that the robot hand has performed well with the tuned PID parameters by reducing the overshoot, rise time (T-r), peak time (T-p), settling time (T-s) and steady state error (e(ss)). Besides, the robot hand has also succeeded the grasping task with the proposed position reference trajectory.

the purpose of this project is to design and construct a seven degree of freedom (DOF) three-fingered robotic hand. this project is the continuity from a previous work which has successfully constructed two-DOF robotic finger. In this work, a palm that holds all the three fingers is designed and the design of the current finger is improved. All components are fabricated and assembled to produce a complete robotic hand. SolidWorks software is used to design the palm and finger which considers the selection of motor, spur gears, and appropriate shape of palm. the range of motion is visualized to confirm the design with the desired application. then, the motion of the proposed hand design is validated based on a control study which is carried out in separate work using Motion Manager Application. It can be observed from the experimental results that the robotic hand is capable of moving according to the proposed mechanism and the desired positions before successfully grasped two types of household objects with all its three fingers. this also proved that the proposed designs worked well for the task assigned by user. thus, the resulted robotic hand can be potentially applied as the end effectors of an industrial robot for product manipulation in near future.

Most of the countries around the world have paid great attention to flood water level prediction system because flood events may damage on people's life and property. However, since flood water level fluctuates highly nonlinear, it is a very difficult task to predict flood water level accurately. Since Artificial Neural Network is an effective technique for handling nonlinear problems, thus, this paper proposed a 7 hours ahead flood water level prediction modelling using Neural Network Autoregressive with Exogenous Input (NNARX) for flood prone area located in Kedah, Malaysia as case study. the model was developed using four inputs and one output. three inputs were upstream stations water level and one input from water level differences at downstream flood location. the output was the predicted water level at downstream station. Simulation was done using Matlab Neural Network Toolbox. Results showNNARX modelling was able to predict flood water level ahead of time.

Parking a car is an important driving skill. However, many drivers do not like parking. therefore, a number of parking assist systems have been developed. When humans and computers perform control together, it is important to design cooperative control systems involving a human. the parking assistance method often used in the driving school in Japan is a cooperative assistance method. A good driving instructor not only prioritizes his/her own intention, but can perform flexible operation considering the driver's intention. In the present paper, a cooperative parking system based on fuzzy intention is proposed. this system provides a parking assistance method. this system conforms to a driver much as possible. Fuzzy intention is a set of temporary target candidates that express a good temporary target decided by the assistant. Using fuzzy intention, the breadth of candidates enables the driver's intention to be confirmed. the effectiveness of this system was verified experimentally.

this research aims at realizing a flying observation system which complements other information gathering systems using a balloon or an air vehicle. We have proposed the kite-based tethered flying robot with long-term activity capability[1]. this paper shows a computational model of the kite-based tethered flying robot and a method of learning fuzzy control parameters for the robot using human operation data.

this paper presents a model and an algorithm for optimal service placement (OSP) of a set of N-tier software systems, subject to dynamic changes in the workload, Service Level Agreements (SLA), and administrator preferences. the objective function models the resources' cost, the service level agreements and the trashing cost. the optimization algorithm is predictive: its allocation or reallocation decisions are based not only on the current metrics but also on predicted evolution of the system. the solution of the optimization, in each step, is a set some service replicas to be added or removed from the available hosts. these deployment changes are optimal with regards to overall objectives defined over time. In addition, the optimization considers the restrictions imposed on the number of possible service migrations at each time interval. We present experimental results that show the effectiveness of our approach.

the air conditioner system is the main consumer of energy in residential sectors. thus, in smart buildings, it is necessary to optimize its consumption and take human comfort into consideration in order to respect the trade-off between the energy demand and the indoor thermal comfort. So, an air conditioner's model is proposed in this paper. this model's output is the computing of the cooling capacity during a short sampling period to provide human with the energy feedback in near real time. the model is tested at the National engineering School of Tunis in real conditions.

this paper presents a method of long-term cycle control strategies for a large-scale battery energy storage system (BESS). Several transmission and distribution long-term cycle functions can be implemented on the power management system (PMS) for BESS, but this paper focuses on system margin price (SMP) based shaving, which is both for energy time shift and also for maximization the benefit from the operation. this paper includes an illustrative example applying the method to SMP signal. © 2014 ieee.
