this paper presents ongoing research and current results on the development of flexible access control infrastructures for complex resource provisioning in grid-based collaborative applications and on-demand network services provisioning. We investigate the use of workflow concepts for the required orchestration of multiple grid resources and/or services across multiple administrative and security domains. In particular, workflow execution and management tools can be used to track security context changes that are dependent on the application domain, execution stage defined policies, or user and/or service attributes. the paper discusses what specific functionality should be added to grid-oriented authorization frameworks to handle such dynamic service-related security contexts. As an example, the paper explains how such functionality can be achieved in the GAAA Authorization framework and GAAA toolkit. Suggestions are given about integration with the Globus Toolkit's authorization framework. Additionally, the paper analyses what possibilities of expressing and handling dynamic security contexts are available in XACML and SAML, and how the VO concept can be used for managing dynamic security associations of users and resources. the paper is based on experiences gained from major grid based and grid oriented projects such as EGEE, NextGrid, *** and GigaPort Research on Network

the coordination of power control and soft handover is an important mechanism for interference-reduction to increase the system capacity. the performance of SIR-based closed-loop power control (CLPC) for the WCDMA UTRA-FDD uplink has been evaluated, dealing with the special requirements set by using these algorithms when the mobile station is connected to more than one base station during soft handover. the simulation has been developed using a simulation tool written in MATLAB. Two power control algorithms, PCA1 and PCA2, specified by the 3/sup rd/ generation partnership project (3GPP) have been simulated and compared in a vehicular environment. the performance metrics in comparing these two power control algorithms are the power control error (PCE), which is the difference between the received E/sub b//N/sub O/ and the E/sub b//N/sub O/ target, and the average MS transmitted power. Simulation results indicate that PCA1 outperforms PCA2 for the range of speeds considered. Higher average mobile transmitted power and SIR are required in PCA1 to support higher data rate users.

through analysis of the actual data of Beijing third-ring-road (BTRR), we find out the phenomena of non-homogenous state transitions occur frequently. Based on the concepts such as homogenous measure index (HMI) and spatio-temporal difference index (SDI), the reasons why the non-homogenous state transition to be occurred are explained by the spatio-temporal relationships among related road sections.

Traffic congestion has become a part of daily life for most of us. One possible way of preventing congestion from building up is by disseminating traffic information. Today a number of commercial solutions exist for disseminating traffic information (e.g., ***, Metrocommute, Etak-Traffic). However, these solutions are plagued by prohibitive deployment and maintenance cost that prevents widespread deployment. As an alternative, solutions based on peer-to-peer architecture have been proposed. this results in a vehicular ad hoc network that is never connected because of the large geographical extent of a typical transportation network. We examine the characteristics of such a network and whether it can support effective traffic information dissemination.

this work presents a monocular camera based object classification system for vehicle airbag deployment control in wide and frequent illumination variations. Monochrome image sequences flashed under different illumination conditions are stabilized by the double-flash technique. Furthermore, the shadowflash method minimized cast shadows in the sequences by introducing a novel sliding n-tuple strategy. By employing the active contour model, two-dimensional information of the object is extracted based on a priori knowledge of the passenger behavior. A triplet of images, of which each image is illuminated from a different direction, are sequentially used by the photometric stereo method to recover the three-dimensional shape of the object. Utilizing both the two and three-dimensional properties of the object, a 29-dimensional feature vector is defined for the training of a neural network designed to solve a three-class problem, with the classes being forward-facing child seat, rearfacing child seat, and adult. the system is tested on a database of over 84,000 frames collected from a wide range of objects in various illumination conditions. A classification accuracy of 98.9% was achieved within the decision-time limit of three seconds.

this paper addresses a method for automating the process of generating statistical process control summaries for powder manufacturing in an epoxy molding compound for encapsulation (EME) plant by integrating the capabilities of WinSPC®, Microsoft® SQL Server database and Microsoft's ActiveX® Data Objects (ADO). the system allows for not only real-time SPC analysis and reporting of daily production lots, but also monthly SPC analysis and reporting using a user-friendly graphical users interface.

this paper presents the effects of fixture dynamics on the control of a variable-reluctance spherical motor (VRSM). the cascaded VRSM dynamics has the appropriate structure for the so-called back-stepping controller design method. Implementation of the back-stepping controller, however, requires the computation of the exact motor dynamics at each sampling time. this computational burden has an effect on the performance of the control algorithm and imposes constraints on the hardware/software architecture of the control system. By only computing the dominant parts of the motor dynamics, this computational burden can be reduced. We have developed a robust back-stepping controller to compensate for uncertainties account for imperfect modeling and intentional computational simplification. the performance of the robust back-stepping controller has been evaluated experimentally against a classical PD controller and a standard back-stepping controller, which serve as bases for comparison.

this paper provides a verification methodology for UML-based real-time reactive system models. the verification process can be mechanized in PVS (Prototype Verification system). the motivation for this work comes from the wide acceptance of UML in industry, as a unified notation applicable to the development of object-based systems in a broad spectrum of domains, and the use of PVS for design analysis in large-scale safety-critical applications.

the object-oriented design methods and their CASE tools are widely used in practice by many real-time software developers. However, object-oriented CASE tools require an additional step of identifying tasks from a given design model. Unfortunately, it is difficult to automate this step for ct couple of reasons: (1) there are inherent discrepancies between objects and tasks;and (2) it is hard to derive tasks while maximizing real-time schedulability since this problem makes a non-trivial optimization problem. As a result, in practical object-oriented CASE tools, task identification is usually performed in an ad-hoc manner using hints provided by human designers. In this paper, we present a systematic, schedulability-aware approach that can help mapping real-time object-oriented models to multi-threaded implementations. In our approach, a task contains a group of mutually exclusive transactions that may possess different periods and deadline. For this new task model, we provide a schedulability analysis algorithm. We also show how the run-time system is implemented and how executable code is generated in our framework. We have performed a case study. It shows the difficulty of task derivation problem and the utility Of the automated synthesis of implemenation.

this paper introduces reconfigurable computing (RC) and specifically chooses one of the prototypes in this field, MorphoSys (M1) from UCI. A mapping of the FIR filter algorithm onto this hardware is proposed. A performance analysis study of the M1 RC is also presented to evaluate the efficiency of the FIR execution on the M1 system. An example (8-tap FIR filter on an 8/spl times/8 RC array M1) was run, to validate our results, using the MorphoSys mULATE program, which simulates MorphoSys operation.
